Some more Rangers things
If you haven't gotten your Rangers fix yet...
Marlon Byrd is in the hospital with kidney stones, and thus ain't playing tonight.
Evan Grant has some extensive notes up about the bullpen, Kevin Millwood's recent struggles, and The Great Elvis Andrus, among other things...
And the New York Times has a good piece up on Michael Young...

is Josh in CF?

So we're going to have to go with either Borbon or Murphy in the OF...
Does the other play DH or does Hank get his first game back?

Pudge is the DH
Murphy in the field, Josh in CF.

Murphy is terrible against lefties, though.
Just terrible.

Why don't we hear
the inevitable mention of Nolan Ryan when we talk about Millwood’s innings, like we did earlier in the season.
"I don't condone steroids or any other type of growth hormones or anything else, but I could care less, and, for the most part, I don't think the fans give a (bleep). The people that care about it are the people that probably don't like baseball," - Jim Leyland

you can't blame it on high pitch counts or tough training regimens though

ok you can
but I don’t (talking about Padilla, McCarthy, Benson and Harrison’s injuries or suckitude). If you want to blame Millwood wearing down on high pitch counts, I suppose that could be attributed – just not the absence of 4/5 of our rotation from the start of this year.

Scott Feldman has basically been apart of the opening day rotation
Brandon McCarthy is Brandon McCarthy.
It certainly seems
like they were giving able to credit Nolan quickly when there was credit to be had.

"mea culpas" from the press are not very common, are they??
I may not have predicted doom, but Milly was my one worry when it came to Nolan’s “edict”.
The Texas Rangers have been synonymous with explosive firepower ever since they emptied 130 rounds into Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow in 1934. - Alyssa Milano
Nolan...
If you don’t think that Nolan has had a positive impact on this pitching staff this year you really should just take up another sport and try to learn something about it.
Foolish consistency is the hobgobblin of little minds - Emerson
And the alternative was for
Nolan not to address the situation and have Millwood repeat his 2008 season?
true
but if you looked at our staff the past 5+ years and looked at this year, would you say it’s grown by leaps and bounds? last year at this time, wouldn’t you be pretty excited about these results? I think the overall picture painted is that there is success, and that this success is a direct result of some increased defensive prowess, a renewed attitude, the quality of pitchers in this system; and indirectly a result of Nolan Ryan, Mike Maddux and the training regimen they have in place

I like to poke fun at spurdyansty sometimes
But I love G/F ratios, and that is a great little article.
Now, your post should get 42 recs just for mentioning spurdynasty.
Go Rice Owls!
lol
it’s only because of all the stupid shit we rec all the time
When you read a spurdynasty article, it’s sort of mandatory if you take your rec’ing seriously at all
It took me forever to figure out
his name was Spur Dynasty and not Spurdy Nasty….ever since then, he fell on my list a little bit, but not far cause the man does good work.

It kills me that he said BR and FanGraphs don't list GB/FB.
Both do. BR lists it as GO/AO (albeit under splits), and FanGraphs lists it as GB/FB under the batted ball section.
Y'all need to catch OC and Rodney
doing the play by play in the Angels Tigers Fan Post. They are doing a pretty good job.

Can we consider the NY Times as national?
And say Face is getting some well-deserved national attention?
nope.

What do LSBers think about the book Jonah Keri edited Baseball Between the Numbers?
A fun read for dorks like me.
It served as a good primer into the sabermetric world, which I’m still trying to figure out.

I am so afraid of the day that those damn kidney stones catch up to me
I’ve heard horror stories
"Hang-Dai, Wu...Hang-Fu$&ing-Dai"
I've had several attacks...
…ranging from mildly annoying to “I think something inside me just burst and I will be dead in 30 seconds”.
I have no objection to man walking on the moon.
we took my roommate out partying hard one night
lots of drinking. at 9 am the next morning, he was rushed to the hospital, and I swore I’d killed him with that last shot. I was relieved to find out it was just a kidney stone…but he said it was the worst pain you could imagine magnified 100 times. He was pissing blood and vomiting from it. SICK.

They're no shit.
I feel sorry for Marlon, hopefully he’ll only miss a day or two, depends on how long it takes to pass it. I’ve had one before, tiny little thing, maybe the size of a BB if not smaller and I thought I was going to fucking die. Worst pain I’ve ever had, and I’ve shattered my elbow before. I have a friend that gets them pretty frequently and he gets them bad, he’s passed some that were marble sized before. I can’t even imagine. The worst part is there’s really nothing you can do about it, you just have to wait for it to drop from the kidney to the urethra, which is the most agonizing part believe it or not and can take hours, then you have to piss it out. It’s some terrible shit.
"Damn right. damn right, great idea or maybe just make the punk his bitch right on the mound so all the christers in the audience can start praying and speaking in tongues and perhaps handling snakes – kind of like the scene in Bruno in the cage fight" –Stuntman Mike, on the idea of putting a hardened criminal on the team as an enforcer, and what it would be like to watch him charge the mound.
"How about during the 7th inning stretch from now on we have mass abortions on the field!!???!! Gritty nom nom nom baby JESUS donkey fuck spectacular!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We can dig up TY COBBS BONES!!!AND USE THEM TO EVACUATE SOME LUCKY FANS UTERUS!!!!" –Section 339, in response to Stuntman Mike
isn't it a calcium deposit?
doesn’t it help if you drink a ton of water as far as preventative measures go?

There's lots of different kinds.
But yeah drinking lots of water is generally a good idea from what I’ve been told. Mine was because of a similar type of situation as your friend’s, I was on like a week long binge and I ended up paying for it.

Byrd unavailable?
I will be shocked if Wash doesn’t forfeit at the lineup exchange.
I have no objection to man walking on the moon.
Not a problem - he's still penciled in at cleanup
Remember Red, hope is a good thing. Maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies.
Wash is going to put a cardboard cut-out
of him in the box. We will know its not really him after it takes a pitch.
Testicals. That is all.
We need an A+ performance from Dutch tonite.
