Back on the ESPN boards, I was active for about a year. Since then, nothing.

I can tell you lots of history… if anyone asks.
But just like no one is asking Kevin Elster questions about the Rangers, no one is interviewing me about Sharky or Hawkera.

Well done to all. This is a phenomenal subthread. Now, someone with the requisite knowledge needs to create the roster.

I want to be Adam Fox. I’ve observed much greatness while hanging around the top prospects, and I see myself as being respected enough (at least I don’t think I’m hated by anyone) without the skins on the wall to deserve a spot on the 40.

I don't begrudge Hank

CD needed to go down to get his act together. Hank struggled but played solid defense, had some timely hits in some big games, and was the Rangers only real option. But I think they are much better off with a confident Davis. His defense may take some time to come around as he only played first 9 times at OKC.

The Cubs will have until Monday afternoon to work out trades, allow Harden and Heilman to depart on claims or pull them back them from waivers.

Their biggest mistake (well, aside from the entire "plot") was trying to replace Laura Harris with another actress as Daisy Adair

I hate it when shows try to replace actors instead of characters.

Hank is 7 runs below a zombie replacement at first base. Do you realize how terrible that is? Zombie’s can’t think, they’re slow, and they’re often ejected from the game for eating opposing baserunners’ brains. - Ben quantifies Hank Blalock

by LSJ on Aug 27, 2009 6:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, Betty only lasted like the first 3 or 4 episodes or something

Then they brought in Laura Harris. Which for me was where the show really took off, LOL.

I’m talking about in the “Life After Death” movie though – they couldn’t get Laura Harris to play Daisy (just like they couldn’t get the guy who played Rube back), but instead of replacing Daisy like they did Rube, they replaced Laura with the gal who played her sister on “24”. It was saddening.

I fully believe that had Wash not put Grilli in the game the other night that he would not have been as good today.

What a great win and great series win

I’m sure that you guys talked about this in the monstrous GDT, but I just got home and was running through the high points of the game, and what the heck was Melky Cabrera doing in the bottom of the fourth on that DP? We all know that MLB is too lax on requiring runners to slide into the base when they are trying to break up a double play, but I’ve never seen anything like that play. He was at least eight feet out of the baseline when he slid into Andrus, and he had to re-route so badly to slide into Andrus as he ran sideways that he was sliding at a 45-50 degree angle with the baseline.

I have to think that they would have called Molina out because of the slide anyway, but what the heck does Melky think he’s doing? Does he think you can just chase guys into RF and tackle them?

by Brett Perryman on Aug 27, 2009 5:20 PM CDT reply actions

Tackles

better than Roy Williams, ill give him that much.

I guess he was just doing whatever he could to breakup the DP. Cant really blame him for that but you are right there probably has to come a time where he just concedes it.

There is, in fact, a manly and lawful passion for equality which excites men to wish all to be powerful and honored. A call here a call there, squeeze the zone a little and over the course of 162 games etc. And don’t even get me started about the $200,000,000 payroll and the small market teams like Pittsburgh.

Hanson’s anchors were both telling him to lead with Rangers and he said I’ll get to it soon enough.

"We have a better chance to win with other guys in the lineup," said Blalock, who is hitting .190 the past 30 games. "That’s something I’ve got to deal with."

Much to the confusion of everyone in Cali who sees me and thinks Texan = Cowboys fan. I hope they go 0-16 every year.

And while we are at it, why does Adam allow a Channel 11 sports ad that only shows Cowboys news on his sidebar? That always annoys me.

by JBImaknee on Aug 28, 2009 10:21 AM CDT up reply actions

The cowboys

get all the attention because way more people in dfw care about them than they do the rangers. Plain and simple. The truth is that if the rangers gave us winning seasons every year, they would get more pub. In the media’s eyes, they will go with cowboys news because they will get more viewers/listeners.

Study the program

There’s usually open phone lines at the beginning of any show

The odds of you getting through in the middle of the day are a lot greater than during the ‘morning’ and ‘afternoon’ shows – since those programs are structured to be more ‘local’ and thus encompass broader spectrums of information, such as entertainment, traffic, etc

If during a segment you hear the main host(s) speaking intently about a certain topic, chances are the producers are in the background taking calls

During commercial breaks is another good time to call

As a side note, I am very surprised how much easier it is for me to get through on the phone. It used to be a pain in the ass. But, strangely enough, for about as long as The Fan has been on the air, there seems to be more open phone lines, at BOTH stations. Obviously the volume of calls going into The Fan is greater than those going into The Ticket, but I think The Ticket, perhaps as a reaction, has gotten better at accepting phone calls. Granted, they have better screeners also

I'm serious. More LSBers need to call into the talk shows

The buzz only survives if more people participate. And frankly, there’s people here that have better things to say than Al in Garland… but, i don’t know a single one of you that calls into shows.

Why does it matter to me that the Rangers need to bum-rush the press? Because, when you think about it, the press is nothing but an army of Josey Waleses. And they plant that seed in the public consciousness…

It’s not right.

I'm willing to bet

that the average cowboy fan (defined by having a gigantic star on the back of their pickup) is more likely to know who the Cowboys punter is than know who the vice president is.

Of course, that is probably true for all football teams/fans, sadly. But it is pick on Cowboys fans day around here…
