Rangers BallPark in Arlington
I heard earlier in the season that during the offseason the Rangers plan on doing some upgrade work to the ballpark. I believe the plan was to add 4 or more video boards and scoreboards in the outfield above the office. Does anyone know if this is still going to happen considering tom cheepicks not having/wanting to spend any money? also, what's the deal with the grass at our park? many patches are worn out and look horrible both on tv and when you go out there. I was there last week for a game against the twins and i hated how the field looked. Does anyone know when/if they will get the grass issue fixed and what offseason plans they have for the ballpark?
The Cowboys just opened their stadium and they've got the huge board and now the Mavs and Stars are putting up new HD video boards at the AAC that no other team in the NBA and NHL have. Isn't it time for the Ballpark to upgrade in a BIG HD way?

If you don’t like the ballpark don’t go. Just quit bitching about it. First it was a dome you wanted now this. Quit being a pussy if you can’t take the heat just stay home.

where in the blue hell did i say anything about the heat in my above rant? i spoke about the horrible looking playing field and the video screens that are/were supposed to go up this offseason. get over yourself for one second and answer the question or else shut the hell up and don’t talk outta your ass.
morris, that was a shot at hicks. did i break your heart? i know you’re in love with anything rangers front office.
tx, yes, the aac is getting new HD video boards. check out their website for more info.

Were you serious

Do you like
Fenway Park?
Wrigley Field?
I just don’t think Ballparks have to be tricked up to make them great. SF has a great park and it isn’t tricked up.

Sigh
The game on the field is what counts. The Ballpark has about the best drainage system going, and heat tolerant grasses (turfgrass) are being tried to make a good playing surface. No amount of active plasma, LCD screen, or other electronic extravaganze can make the game better on the field (old gripe I won’t rant again about). Hicks, Nolan, JD and company spend and have spent plenty to enhance the game on the field. Only lately has there been expenditure for “fan entertainment”. Even is HSG is cash strapped, you’d have to make a staggering financial case to be able to call ’em cheap. And whining about HD is like a crown prince of Arabia getting all teary and blubbering about having only oil, not enough gold and platinum in the kingdom.

they changed the turf in the infield
over the all-star break, I believe
they changed it from bermuda tifway 419 to zeon zoysia, a grass which endures the heat better. I’m not positive, but I think I read that the plan is to change the outfield grass in the offseason, but don’t quote me on that

kevinkinsler
thank you. i heard about the infield grass being changed as well.
i never wanted a dome on the ballpark. i hate dome parks. i wanted a retractable roof on it that opens and closes. big difference there buddy boy. and yes, i was serious about another team coming to dallas. i would like to see maybe a mark cuban buy a team and move them to dallas and build them a park in downtown dallas.
i don’t like wrigley or fenway. i love safeco and the new yankee stadium though.

Sorry I got confused
I thought it was you that wanted a dome.
I hate domed baseball parks. I like the older parks much better than the new tricked up parks. I love Camden Park in Baltimore and I love the Ballpark in Arlington just the way it is. I do like the new OF scoreboard and the new ribbon.

One more thing
Retractable and domed are one and the same. Baseball should be played in an outdoor park.

Bringing an NL team to Dallas
is as likely as a third arm growing out of my ass… especially given the current divisional makeups. 99.999% impossible.

I’m not sure he actually intended to disclose where the company was located. In any event, you know that the Germans make good stuff.

Have you ever
been to Fenway? You don’t have to be a Sox fan to like that stadium. It’s old and has its oddities but it’s a great place to watch a game.

The first time we went
we took the tour and got to go out on the field. They were having a Press day and had gloves and balls out for the Press guys to play around with. But they didn’t so we picked them up and played catch all around the field for about 30 minutes. One of the best times I’ve had at a MLB park.

Will the new zoysia
Hold up to the traffic if thet decide to use it all over the field? Zoysia didn’t used to grow well in this zone.

I think it will hold up better than the tif does
I believe after a full growing season it will be fine. Problem with the tif is they always throw down rye in the winter time to keep the field green. After awhile the rye will choke out the bermuda and hence it is weak going into the summer. They really should not put the rye out for a couple of years.

All they have to do is put the tarp on it during the day for a few hours.

Yep,
its not even close. I’m generally not at all a fan of convertible domes aesthetically. I can appreciate their functionality when it is 100 outside, but I haven’t been in a single convertidome that I thought was a great ballpark to see a game in when the weather was great. None of the convertidomes can touch San Francisco or Pittsburgh or any of the other great open air ballparks.

Baseball is meant to be played outdoors...
Forget a retractable roof or dome… Stupid.
The only thing the ballpark needs to spice up are the crappy ass jumbotron and the video board in centerfield…
Everything else about the ballpark is great IMO…

Not sure if the Hicks’ financial situation will affect the plans. Check out Chuck Morgan’s comments down in the thread about Phase 2.

Phase 2
Saw the thread. Phase 2 is ready to go…plans are done. All background work is finished.
However, until the ownership of the club is decided, my guess is nothing will be done.
They can install these things in about 3 weeks time….they didn’t start on the latest installation until last February and it was ready to go around the second week of March….
Imagine, boards with live scorecards/box scores….defensive alignments at all times….no amber or matrix type boards….boards that can go all video at any time…..
And I promise, if a ball hits one of scoreboards, it will be one hell of a home run, not a controversy within the game.
Thanks Ahmad…anybody else has any questions, you can always email me at cmorgan@texasrangers.com

One thing Chuck,
when the centerfield amber board goes away, can we at least get a picture of the “Hello Win Column” flashing on the amber board on the new board? I don’t think the “Hello Win Column” would have the same effect if it was all glitzy and what not. Thanks!

also, what is being done in terms of the playing surface for next season, if anything?
