Pics from the Evil Empire 8/27
My 8/27 field trip to Yankee Stadium:
massive yet soul-less park. I was really expecting it to have more character like Camden Yards or Pac-Bell

AJ Burnett stifling Ranger batters:

even the grounds crew is ghey:

after hiding behind my beers waiting for the Yankee deluge on Nippert, somehow things start going our way. I was too busy shaking my head to get shots of Dustin Nippert painfully walking batter after batter, and was too stunned to snap any of Ian Kinsler's massive 3 run shot but here is Crush Davis delivering the death-blow:
"Hey look third base! I haven't seen that in awhile!"

Yankees pay homage to Andrus:

Once again, I was biting my nails with Jason Grilli in, and too scared to take any pics. He was outstanding. MVP of the game in my book. Bridged the gap until the young Jedi could come in:
CJ sez "Alex you look a bit bloated today"
"Nick you're my Twitter-buddy, but I'm buzzing your junk with 95 mph heat"

Suck it!

5th inning against the Tigers
probably a telephoto
Im in the market for a 200mm prime for my camera, they aint cheap
"I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it." - Mitch Hedberg
No they are not.
Would cost more than any seat in Yankee Stadium, and many new cars. Though I’m not sure if they make really good 200mm primes…I think they just jump all the way up to 300mm most of the time, don’t they? I’m not a big zoom/tele guy.

200
canon has a nice 200mm 2.8 L that goes from 600-850 the next jump is 300 which is used car priced territory.
it seems the multipurpose tele’s get the most sales though
"I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it." - Mitch Hedberg
You mean zooms
Tele is a prime.
There’s one Nikon lens priced at a little over $10k. No idea what makes it so great. Probably USM and all that shit.

I don't think they'll even let you bring a big prime into the stadium

Most stadiums wont
but some like the rbia dont have a set rule listed other than it can’t disrupt others.

I've done it at the Temple and at Camden
That was before the security madness and I just walked right in with them. Of course an usher in Arlington kept a real close eye on me for the entire game. I really, really dislike their ushers.
Anyway never forget you can rent these lenses. If you shoot Canon or Nikon, anyway. If you’re like me and you use something else you’ll have to rent a body too. I haven’t done it in a long time but no more than you’d use a long lens like that it makes nothing but sense to rent when you do need or want to use one. In DC a big Nikon lens cost $100/day to rent on the weekend back in c.2000, and here it was a little less for the same quality Canon gear. Better than buying a cheaper but still expensive option that won’t quite cut it, imho fwiw lol etc. You just can’t beat the big glass of those lenses. Sharpness, clarity, the colors pop. Nice bokeh. And most importantly they focus incredibly fast.

some stadiums limit size
which sucks, i think the new park in DC limits the lens to 8inches long. Some just throw out the generic “no professional equipment”.
But to get back to the point, yeah rental is great for one time events. You can get a nice 300mm lens for under 100/day bucks usually

Great captions too.
Soulless? Hell, in some pics it looks like a genero multi-sport 70’s thing.

"Massive yet soul-less"...
so the park fits right in with their payroll and team roster.

Good for you eclou
My dad, brother and I got to the old Yankee stadium last September… and the new one looked pretty massive from the outside. I hope to get back to see it next year… Or perhaps in October???

I live in Houston. Took a day trip to NYC just for the game.
Sitting thru 30 years of suckitude has instilled a sense of desperation on my part to savor every second of this team’s playoff run. In the 10 or so games I have attended this year, we have only lost one game, and it was because I decided not to wear my team jersey. I watched us take the LAA series earlier in Anaheim, this Yankees game, and sweeps of LAA and Houston. I am going to TBIA for the Angels series in Sept as well.

Outstanding.
The captions were perfect for each pic. Nicely done.
Way to not lurk and instead shit all over yourself during your first fanshot.
