They definitely should have
dfaed Arias earlier to clear the 40

Who did they need to add to the 40 earlier this year?

I don't recall who
we added when we released Duran.

Oh yes
The greatness of German Duran. How ever will we survive without him

he was probably
better than arias

Arias
I think there’s a few people on this board that are better than Arias.
Officially gay for Neftali Feliz
I know I could just stand there and let Andrus take care of a double play
Its really not that hard

He looks totally and utterly lost out there...
I actually did something last night that I haven’t done all year (no, not THAT)
I turned off the TV after the botched pickoff, when I saw Arias make about a 100 ft powderpuff throw after recovering the ball. He has no arm, he seesm to have no instincts at 2B, and his appearance just flat unnerves me. Please tell me Omar is rested enough now.

Davis has sucked the past 10-15 games in OKC
so it wouldn’t make a difference bringing him up.
But I’d rather run out no one than Arias. He is the worst kind of worst around.

Wash's fault for having him hit lead-off
His absolutely terrible attempt at a throw to first base on an Ellis “hit” in the 8th. And stepping in front of Andrus on a ball that could have been turned into a double play if his ugly ass didn’t step in front of Elvis.
He had some ugly fucking at bats tonight as well.

I really don't understand bringing up Arias.
At a time when you need a versitile, experienced player the Rangers bring up Arias who I believe was still a rookie before these past two games. Why didn’t they bring up German? Esteban has over 1000 PAs in the MLs and can play 3 IF positions and the OF.

My solution to the offense (and defense to an extent)
Bring up Borbon, Smoak, and Davis, all at once, and let them start regularly. Option Hamilton down to AAA until he figures out his swing, try to trade hank through waivers for whatever you can get, he’s not cutting it, especially for the price he’s costing us this year. And punt Arias as far as he can possibly fly. Michael Young becomes the backup at 2b and SS with Davis backing up him at 3B until Kinsler get back, but hopefully going with an infield of Davis/Omar/Andrus/Young every night until Kins is ready. Best case it energizes the team, josh figures stuff out and comes back on fire for september. Worst case key young players for next season get important big league experience.
It could if we lose all three to the Angels.
Well, Smoak won’t be coming up just yet, but I could see Davis and Borbon brought up soon after that if there’s a disaster this weekend.

I haven’t given up on this season. But I still have an eye on the future. Borbon needs ABs this year if he is going to reduce his inevitable learning curve he will have next year. I thought this was cool to read after that miserable game
There’s simply no night in baseball like Newberg Night in Arlington. It was slightly cooler (96 vs 107 last year), but the crowd was as big and as passionate as ever—350 people packed in to hear Kevin Goldstein and I be the opening act for Jon Daniels. Daniels was as candid as any general manager can be and didn’t dodge any questions, even when fans reminded him of a “not so great” trade from the past. No other GM that I know of takes 90 minutes of questions (though a couple have taken 30 at some of our Pizza Feeds). Interestingly, Daniels was occasionally fiddling with his Blackberry while taking questions; he was actually putting Ian Kinsler on the DL and activating KG’s mancrush, Neftali Feliz. It’s pretty amazing what you can do with a phone these days. At the end, the applause was thunderous. Jamey Newberg didn’t build a web site, he built a community. He didn’t do it as a feature on a long list, but found a place where passionate fans found a home. Other writers and organizations, including right here, should take a lesson from Newberg and his readers. Memphis, Pittsburgh, and Indy are upcoming events that I’ll be at, but I’d love to do more if someone (or some team) would like. Powered by a great night of baseball, on to the injuries:

Care to have him email some of those event photos to me?
If so, we’ll put it up on the NRN page. Crediting him, of course.

something needs to happen.

Like what?
The time for fixing this offense and making a serious playoff push kind of passed with the deadline.
All we can do at this point to “improve” things is call up the young guys and let them play.

Nick Johnson went 2-4 with a bb tonight
and is now 4 for 10 with 4 bbs.
He went really cheap to the Marlins.

What with the 4-0 loss we just took, I’m sure that 2-4 with a BB would have given us at least 5 runs in the game.

Maybe a small waiver-wire deal or something, not that's going to help much.
maybe Duran in Arias’ place, but he won’t see the field probably with Viz coming back. Maybe some of the young guys would provide an initial bost, like Boggs did last year. Hell if I know.

Usually most of the guys that get traded on waiver deals are high salary guys.
Which obviously isn’t an option for us…

No, those 277 plate appearances and .256 obp were fairly conclusive.
Chris Davis drowned this year.

Davis is the answer.
Call him back up. The whole team gets a boost. You get the great defense, and hopefully the improved bat.

Perhaps I’m mistaken, but Hank has hit well since he has been a steady starter, no?

in 18 games since the all-star break
he’s hitting .192/.192/.288, so, no. Zero walks and 24 K’s in that span. He’s still a streaky platoon guy.

LMAO like that makes any difference
so if he’s hitting .008/.028/.012 more than it’s ok to bring him up?
Except
Hank is drowning now so it can’t hurt.

Ogulnick, not the biggest Ranger Homer but one of them is now suggesting that the Texas Rangers were one of the big losers at the trade deadline.

"Gardner, What you should do is tip your cap and then move forward with your tail tucked snugly in your gash."
"Ranger players, especially veterans, weren’t surprised that Daniels couldn’t find a deal"
Of course they were.
Let’s see, they didn’t derail their future for a rental player and they didn’t waste prospects on a single bat that wasn’t going to fix the offense. At the same time, they held on to talented prospects who will be carrying this team for well into the next decade, long after 2009 has been forgotten.
Yep, what a bunch of dumbasses.
They weren't going to "derail their future" to get either
Victor Martinez (8 for 17 since going to Boston) or NJohnson (4 for 10, 4 bbs).
Our esteemed GM was paralyzed by fear at the trade deadline.

were gonna make a damn bit of difference.

So the alternative -
doing nothing – was the better move??!?!
Does that mean they should do nothing in the off-season to improve the club?
What about 2012?
Dumbass.

So holding on to your future is "fear" in your book?
I’d argue that making a desperation move to try and fix an entire under-performing offense that costs you any future piece is the fear-motivated move.
Honestly, you really do just think up off the wall shit to bitch about because of your irrational hatred of JD. When this team is steamrolling through the AL West in the years to come, it’s probably going to literally kill your damned soul.
nice start by gio
patience pays off even after early struggles. Dont give up on 22/23 yr old players so quickly
just like its foolish to give up on chris davis
he's gonna be just fine
i saw alot of stuff bashing him by the A’s fans, but he’s got great K rates and is still real young.

Anyone want to guess how many double digits runs we've put up so far this year?
Bonus, how many have our opp. put up?
And for triple bonus points, how many did we put up this time last year and how many the opp. put up last year?
Screw it, I'm just gonna answer it. It's took late to wait for any guessers
This year:
Rangers scored double digits: 6 times
Rangers opp. scored double digits: 6 times
Last year at this time:
Rangers scored double digits: 18 times
Rangers opp. scored double digits: 20 times
Thank you starting pitching and bullpen for your wonderful offseason approach and work
Fuck you offense (minus MY) for assuming you were going to blow people away like it’s 2008.
It's odd how it can flip so much.
Never did I think our offense would be the problem this year.
I'm just goofin' new boot goofin'
Sadly, I kind of figured this would happen.
Not this year, but I always feared when the Rangers finally get some pitching performances, their offense would make sure to forget how to play.
And I was right.

Totals
I’m assuming you mean the number of games the Rangers and opponents have put up double digit runs.
This year:
Rangers: 6
Opponents: 6
Last year (through 105 games):
Rangers: 17
Opponents: 19
I looked it up. (Sorry)
Still, though, that’s incredible.
0 runs
hard to play the blame game when you don’t score. Made Gio look like a stud and got the typical, Gio really has great stuff tonight from Grieve. 2nd inning tonight. We should start an over/under game on what inning Grieve will pronounce the opposing starter having great stuff.

well
you could talk about the poor offensive performance by the Rangers, but that probably wouldn’t go over well. You could always do the say nothing at all about it…

Seriously.
How many times this year has TAG/Lewin said, “you just have to tip your hat to the opposing pitcher” this year?
Its so bad
when you hear it about a pitcher with a 7 ERA, who would still have a 7 ERA if only folks didn’t feel compelled to swing at bad pitches.
I almost think this offense does better against good pitchers than bad pitchers.

Go with that thought... I bet it's true..
The Texas Rangers have been synonymous with explosive firepower ever since they emptied 130 rounds into Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow in 1934. - Alyssa Milano
It is time to face it - this will not be our year.
We have been holding out hope that KInsler and Hamilton would break-out of their slumps but it is just going to take longer than that, especially for Hamilton. Since we can’t get all new hitters we have to get a hitting coach that preaches “swing to contact” and discipline at the plate. There are a lot of ups and downs with young players and we need to start developing those players that are going to be key in 2010 and forward. Borbon, Smoak, Davis need to be playing everyday, here.
What's up the order
Can anyone explain the logic behind Arias batting leadoff while Elvis sits in the nine hole? I thought that the reasoning behind Elvis batting ninth was to keep pressure off of the kid so why is Arias so ready to take on that pressure?

Arias
I’m not normally one to knee-jerk and scream “DFA him” about a particular player after a bad game, but Arias needs to go. When you make a 42-year old look like Ozzie Smith in his prime, you have no business being on the field.

Can someone clue me in on why Vizquel is sitting?

I think that's the reason exactly
They mentioned on the broadcast last night that he was getting a back to back rest after playing so much….someone must have twittered a question about him being in sweats instead of a uniform.
Be careful....to a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
Wash stated that he was going to rest him
two games because of the amount of time he played and the long flight west.

It is actually 2 games.
They were flat last nite after Monday meltdown and Arias could have prevented that with a routine play in 9’th and then last nite – OMG.
