Like I said in the other thread
Makes me think Kinsler is gonna be out longer than expected. Otherwise I see no reason to do this unless they plan on keeping German up once Kins is healthy which I don’t know if we’ll have room for
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
There's been talk of German...
…playing first base against LHPs.

If so
Why didn’t he play 1B down in OKC?
Elvis Andrus - 2009 AL Rookie of the Year
Mitch Moreland -Tom Grieve Rangers Minor League Player of the Year
Martin Perez - Nolan Ryan Rangers Minor League Pitcher of the Year
Well
Justin Smoak and Chris Davis are both playing 1B now, limiting the amount of innings there.

yea, pretty obvious

Beats me
Probably didn’t consider him getting time at 1B much of a priority. I don’t think it makes much difference.

Probably not
I would have more confidence with him playing 1B then AJ.

they had several other guys there before then
plus they didnt really have a 3B besides him

That'd be good
one of the obvious places to improve the team.

Or Nellie might be going on the DL

Ahh hadn't thought of that
Still looking at probably two weeks once both he and Kins come off the DL where you’d have to keep German up
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
In two weeks the season could be virtually over
I worry about it then.

A question for the masses
How many AL teams carry 5 OFers?
Elvis Andrus - 2009 AL Rookie of the Year
Mitch Moreland -Tom Grieve Rangers Minor League Player of the Year
Martin Perez - Nolan Ryan Rangers Minor League Pitcher of the Year
Most I think
12 pitchers, 2 catchers, 11 positional guys (at least 5 IF, maybe 6)
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
Just a quick search of division and playoff contenders...
The A’s and Red Sox carry 4… Seattle, LA, New York, Detroit, Chicago, Tampa Bay carry 5…
Guys like Vlad and Pat Burrell obvious spend most of their time at DH, but they’re still technically OFs…
good move
this guy at least can take a freaking walk and can play multiple infield positions. I like this move and sooner or late, Bannister had to get off the 40
"The House That Ruth Built, 85 years old, goes out as The House That Hamilton Knocked Down"
has to be his last year
if he was optioned after spring training, which he was, his option carries over through the year
"The House That Ruth Built, 85 years old, goes out as The House That Hamilton Knocked Down"
After the season
They used their last option on him when they sent him down at the beginning of this year.
by Adam J. Morris on Aug 5, 2009 5:36 PM CDT up reply actions
If he was on the 40 and in the minors
they already used the option for the year, so they can yoyo him to their hearts content.

glad to see this happen
still a little surprised that it happened so fast

well, honestly, he's a pretty solid option considering he can play 3B and 2B and is
getting on base at a really high rate in AAA. We could do worse, alot worse.

Arias
I imagine JD telling him he was being sent down today went a bit like this:

Somebody remind me what that guy said to piss off Ari

Meh
I’d prefer Arias been released. Or stuffed in a sack and dropped in Grapevine Lake.
But this’ll do.
The San Francisco Bay would be deeper and colder and closer to where they're currently at
Or maybe they could have taken him out to “tour” Alcatraz and then “forgot” him there, then called his cell phone and told him to make a raft out of a rainjacket.
Why didn't MLB just happen to find out
That he was actually 32 years old?

He is only gone as far as OKC.

5th inning against the Tigers
I guess it was not overreaction by the LSB posters in the GTD
during last nights game….granted Arias didn’t make the difference in a W/L, but he pretty much dicked up everything that he could last night.
This team is on the edge of the cliff at this point

German
Gotcha. Two Ranger utility players named German during the same season?
Who knew? Obviously not me!
Middle Name?
When I heard “German” I simply thought of Duran.
I know of both players, but, Esteban never crossed my radar.
How do the Rangers always do that?
Frankie Francisco and Francisco Cordero. Esteban German and German Duran.
Nothing interesting in this post. Please move along.

I'd like to trade Arias for Duran.
Think the Astros would do it?
Arias just seems like he’s got a nasty attitude on the field..

im a night dude but this wait still kills me
its freaking annoying to be ready for the game to start at 7 and have to wait two more hours
"The House That Ruth Built, 85 years old, goes out as The House That Hamilton Knocked Down"
Good freaking riddance
Arias did more to look like he hasn’t belonged than any player I can remember.
f me
i thought it was german duran until about 5 seconds ago
esteban german will do
Short recap
We lost German Duran by trying to slip him thru the 40 and the Stro’s picked him up, right?
Then we lost Mecalf to the Royals when we tried to slip him thru.
And snagged Estaban German back from the Royals when they tried the same thing? Or did we get him as a minor FA?

Thank god.
Of course, German will probably find himself leading off at some point too…

Strangely, I'm kind of ok with that
