Padilla's Gone
Evan Grant is reporting that Vincente Padilla has been designated for assignment. He's done. After that ridiculous display the other night, this was the right move. He wasn't coming back next year. Let's use the rest of this year to give a rotation spot to someone who will be here. Good for the Rangers.

The rotation
Do we consider putting Happy in the starting rotation? Or is it more like Dusty nipples getting the spot in the rotation.
baseBALLIN!
the nipple
gets the spot until either B-Mac or someone else is ready.

Stunning
You would have thought they wanted to keep him around for the pennant run. I sure hope the room was onboard with this move, or the rest of the season is in the shitter.
I kinda think MY was on board with this, however, after Padilla giggling on the bench the other nght after he got hit.

Crappy teammate I'll give ya
But he was also the 2 on this staff. I really, really hope the players don’t see this as giving up on them.

He was
a 5 (OK, 4.9) ERA pitcher in his time with the Rangers.
For all his obvious talent, his performance was nothing special.

OT: Alex Rios has apparently been put on waivers, and a team has put in a claim for him
That team wouldn’t happen to be us would it?
.261/.315/.413
He is owed $60 million on his contract
With our apparent financial situation, I can’t believe we would claim him. The Blue Jays may be trying to trade him or they may just be willing to give him to the claiming team to rid themselves of his salary.

Grant has a quote from Bryd that suggests the clubhouse is behind this move.
"It’s about time," Byrd said. "When a player disrupts a team, eventually there is going to come a time when management has enough. They have seen enough. We are fighting for a playoff spot. The last thing we need in the clubhouse is a distraction like that. There are 25 guys in this clubhouse who are behind management on this. They showed that they are serious. They did their job. That just serves as assurance that they are doing the right thing here."
I didn't know what a mancrush was. Derek Holland showed me.
Damn Byrd came right out and said it. No beating around the bush on this one.

Eh.
I don’t want to sound Outlawish or anything but this is a pennant race. Padilla, at least, is a veteran and while his best years are behind him I don’t like seeing a bunch of young guys out there on the mound while trying to catch the Angels.
That said, it’s his damn fault and I can’t really object.

how much more do you think he’s worth than Nippert/BMac/X?
I’m a white boy who doesn’t think a black man is good enough to manage my baseball team. - LSJ
"I really think that" - LSJ, on being asked by AirJordan
I cannot answer that question
But I will try. Not knowing X, I will say that Padilla’s probably worth a lot more. I’ve never had any faith in McCarthy.
I do like Nippert, though. It’s just that he’s young and you kinda want guys on the mound for you that have been around the block a few times. Like if you were headed out into the mountains of Afghanistan, would you rather go with an element who’d been there before or a green one?
by Black Francis on Aug 7, 2009 7:53 PM CDT up reply actions
It's not that simple
McCarthy or Nippert can give us what Padilla gives us pretty easily. In this case, it is like choosing between a green element and a element that’s a holdover from Vietnam that also happens to be infected with VD. Padilla just wasn’t that amazing, and maybe getting him gone with have the guys playing harder.

Well we'll see
Given Padilla’s inconsistency I’m not really going to argue the point very hard. Well I will against McCarthy. That dude is cursed or something. Nippert I do have a little faith in, as I said. And if the team plays harder (I don’t really see how it could make that much of a difference) then it will be good.

Really, their number 2?
Millwood has a better ERA and more wins this year.
Feldman has a better ERA and more wins this year.
McCarthy had the same ERA and a better W-L% this year.
Hunter has a better ERA and a better W-L% this year.
I don’t doubt Padilla’s talent, but his actual performance as a Ranger really wasn’t anything special.

I bet most of the guys in that clubhouse were behind Teixeira doing what he did. Those guys hated Padilla. You could tell.

Good Christian boy that I am, I almost went through the big screen to get at Pads the other day when he started yukking it up in the dugout.
I woulda loved to have seen Face jog to first base and fling his bat at him along the way.

Haha, what bullshit.
I’d be tempted to call his bluff on this.
From TR:
* Scheppers is working out six days a week at the API Institute in Carson, California and is in good shape. There were reports, which Genske said were false, about Scheppers needing shoulder needing surgery about two weeks ago.
* Genske is setting up an audition for Scheppers for about a half dozen Japanese teams within a couple of weeks. There were Japanese scouts who saw Scheppers pitch with the St. Paul Saints. He hasn’t decided whether to invite the Rangers to the session. (Genske should know more on Monday.)
* Dr. Lewis Yocum and Keith Meister, according to Genske, have given Scheppers a good bill of health.

I have no idea what goes on in the clubhouse between these guys, but this guy may have been a constant black cloud in there, and dumping his ass may actually provide a bit of a spark, or at least I hope it does.

He was wild and unpredicatble when
he took the mound, and obviously the rest of the team hated him so its good riddance.
But it really is too bad that it turned out this way because when Padilla took the mound with his head on straight, he was pretty effective at times.
Now if we beat out Boston/LAA, we’re looking at Scott Feldman as our Game 2 starter. Wow.
So be it-he's a big reason they got there.
