O'day has been far the best ranger on back to back nights

he will be fine.

great win.

He had a real nice stretch

between the 2 DL stints. If he can stay healthy, I don’t see any reason he can’t put a nice couple month run.

actually

they were 4.5 out at that time and are now 3.5 behind the LAAoA.

Granted, that isn’t much… but they held on long enough during the Angel’s unreal record the last month to make this series truly meaningful to the standings in the West

Plus, the Rangers are only 1 game out in the WC behind the Sox and 1.5gms in front of the Rays….

Would I prefer to be in a better position? Yes.
Did the ‘fork’ comment imply that things would be much worse at this point? Absolutely.

i don't think it implied things would be worse at this point...

…certainly not much worse.

i think the greater concern was for the end of the season – not august 8th.

no one has predicted that the rangers will go winless and that LAA will win every game.

i don’t want to say what adam was thinking, but i thought and still do that this is an uphill battle.

awesome win! beat weaver/win the series, and i am cautiously optimistic.

also, gives up way too many homers to be a pen guy for me

by Horns130 on Aug 8, 2009 6:38 AM CDT up reply actions

I thought that initially

but look at Smoltz’s stats more closely. His ERA is fugly, but his FIP is 4.92, his xFIP is 4.35, his LOB rate is a very low 57%, with a BaBIP of .390, his tRA* is 4.94 (vs. Padilla’s 5.74).

This is guy on a run of terrible luck pitching in front of the worst defense in baseball.

G G G E-flat_______ F F F D__________....

by t ball on Aug 8, 2009 7:11 AM CDT up reply actions

i still disagree

i prefer internal options also

also, his BABIP looks unlucky b/c so many of them are HRs

this is one of those situations where a number of his stats are ugly, and the guy looks horrible

furthermore, you know boston is fairly sabre savvy…they realized he sucked

by Horns130 on Aug 8, 2009 7:45 AM CDT up reply actions

I didn't mean to say I'm anxious for the Rangers to sign him

I still prefer going with internal options, as I believe some of his “luck” isn’t really luck. And I don’t see the Rangers taking on his salary unless he clears waivers and is available for nothing. But Boston has lots of good options that TX doesn’t, Bowden, Wakefield, etc. and they may have felt that those guys are better in front of their awful gloves.

G G G E-flat_______ F F F D__________....

by t ball on Aug 8, 2009 7:53 AM CDT up reply actions

Wouldn't the HR's actually lower his BABIP

Since they don’t count as batted balls?

I’m not particularly interested in accquiring Smoltz either – I’d rather see Nippert or Moscoso get those starts the rest of the way – but I can’t say I’d be unhappy if they went out and got him. The only really bad things about his numbers are the ERA and the HR/9 – his K and walk rates would both be the best among our starters, and he still has a tRA+ of 93. His periphrials are actually a ton better than Padilla’s.

again though, this is where people get caught up in stats sometimes and dont look (not accusing you of this btw) at the player in question

It will be interesting to see how Boston responds to tonight.

That was an epic battle against their biggest rival in which they threw 8 pitchers (including their ace)… only to lose their 4th in a row after nearly 6 hours… on the same day they had to DFA a future HoF starter of theirs… with Ortiz holding an anticipated press conference at Yankee Stadium tomorrow to admit to using steroids… with Sabathia pitching tomorrow…

Boston could still be reeling and out of the WC lead when they come to Arlington. They are now 8-12 since the All-Star Break.

he absolutely has to get out of boston…they should just trade the guy so he gets a chance to succeed somewhere…classic change of scenery kind of guy to me

if i were boston i wouldve rather traded him alone for Vmart rather than the package they gave up

definitely a head case, but the arm is still there……look at greinke

So the box score says Feldman gave up four runs

How? He gave up one run before the seventh inning. He left with the bases juiced in the seventh inning, but the first batter after Jennings came in hit into a fielder’s choice, which erased one of the men Feldman put on base. Does that guy somehow become Feldman’s responsibility?

by Inkara1 on Aug 8, 2009 1:02 AM CDT reply actions

The boxscore also shows

that Feldman had 7 Ks in 6 IP. Gotta help the FIP.

It's because it was a fielder's choice.

If Feldman hadn’t left a guy there, Jenning’s batter would have been an easy out. That’s the point of the fielder’s choice, that guy is on base, but not credited with a hit.

It’s Feldman’s fault he’s there. It’s charged to him.

Here you go

(g) When pitchers are changed during an inning, the official scorer shall not charge the relief pitcher with any run (earned or unearned) scored by a runner who was on base at the time such relief pitcher entered the game, nor for runs scored by any runner who reaches base on a fielder’s choice that puts out a runner left on base by any preceding pitcher.

Jailbreaking is easy

It’s not the same as unlocking. You can get any app you want for free, and apps that you can’t buy normally

by cashman on Aug 8, 2009 12:56 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions

well you probably won't see this now, but..

do a google search for instructions heh, they are simple.

it only takes a few minutes.. you just copy and paste a file or two and run a program.
though installing all the new stuff takes some time and effort to find out what you want.

Quick rundown of the features i’ve got..

1) Can completely customize the interface. 5×5 grid of apps instead of 4×4, new icon sets, whatever background you want, new dock. Can get the battery in a percentage too.
2) sbsettings program where you swipe across the top of the screen and you get a menu where you can adjust the brightness, turn on/off wifi and other power stuff, reset the thing much easier, etc. just easier access to things.
3) “backgrounder” app lets programs with audio run while you do other stuff.. so you could use the web browser while pandora radio or a mlb audio stream and such play in the background where as normally it would shut off.
4) categories app lets you create folders. I left most of my apps up normally but put the 40 something games I have all in a folder so I don’t have so many tabs.

thats most of the key ones for the touch.. i can’t remember the other ones iphone users would want but im sure there are some. i can recall something about using your iphone’s internet on your laptop… which iphones can do in other countries but not in america without the hack.

oh and if you are a classic gaming fan at all there are snes emulators and such.

you get all those with the “cydia” program that is installed automatically.

and yes, there are also programs that let you download any paid application for free, which is a little sketchy but im not one to judge heh.

the preceding post was a great success.

From Halos Heaven

Between acting like they’re not the least bit concerned about the Rangers and agreeing that Feliz is an utter badass, they had this:

“is it crazy to think padilla would be a good option?

hell his ugly ass is pitching better than saundo

saundo had the worst era in baseball
before his game of 27+ tonight

from what i heard in the pregame, it was a chemistry issue so maybe padilla would thrive pitching against his former team

chemistry?

Padilla’s team mates got sick and tired of being retaliated against every time he decided it would be fun to hit an opposing batter with a pitch. Stuff gets old after a while."

Angel fans are actually discussing Padilla as an option! HA! Take ’em!

that people don’t get signed every year because of high bonus demands. True.

But, when you know they have extremely high bonus demands and it would be difficult to sign them, then compounding that with the financial problems, you don’t think they knew they couldn’t sign them. Of course, if this turns out to be the case.

Not sure if this warrants a Fanshot/post

I’m not aware of the procedure and whatnot…

I feel pretty sick right now. Bleh.

You know it could be worse

The girls could have been much uglier

By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Yeah...

but he’s at a bar(?) with 3 girls so it’s hard to assume that alcohol isn’t involved somewhere.

I mean it would be hard for me to be willing to get my picture taken with three chicks if I was married, unless I wasn’t thinking straight.

Personally

I don’t really feel like this should be a humongous deal, myself (although we don’t have any other details besides those pics). But since it’s him, and he has a past, it’ll no doubt get turned into one.

Rangers can no hit curve ball. Straight ball, they hit it very much. Curve ball, bats are inept.

Well there is some pretty big concern with any addict getting drunk

IMO, yeah he should have to take some crap for this. It will only be good for him in the long run to know that he can’t get away with this kind of stuff.

Yeah, true

It’ll be interesting to see how he handles it, considering this comes out in the middle of a horrible on-field season for him.

I’m more concerned that whatever progress he’s made swinging the bat lately could wind up wiped out by this skeleton flying out of the closet, really.

Yeah,

that doesn’t look good for Josh but doesn’t he pee in a cup every three days?

I remember watching one of those specials on Josh from the years he was using and in a few of those pics he was wearing a ballcap backwards.

Probably a real good time for him to hit about .440 for a month with a lot of bombs.

Hamilton

IIRC, he’s tested very regularly, more so than most ballplayers.

When I was in Arizona for Spring Training

Josh was very much a rock star in the sense that people were constantly tugging at him on the back fields in the mornings and also when he would get his 5-6 innings in of play.

He went beyond the reasonable call of duty in accommodating as many autograph seekers as he could. He seemed to genuinely feel bad when he couldn’t sign and had to actually work at his craft (get in the cage, play in a game, go for his after game workout, etc.).

He’s very human and this proves it. Maybe we can also see why the Reds gave up on him as soon as they did.

Also, his future sobriety isn’t a rock solid given either and there are no definitive winners just yet in the Eddy V / Josh trade.

Well

There’s some thought that Ken Griffey, Jr., was the reason they got rid of him.

Bruce was a CF when Hamilton got traded.

But didn’t Griffey say Hamilton was and teammate or something?

No winners?

I’d say everyone involved won. The Reds got a good pitcher who needed a change of scenery, the Rangers got a huge talent in a needy outfield. Both players benefited hugely, Volquez got a chance in a new org and took advantage of it, bigtime, and so did Hamilton. Both teams derived wins and fan interest from the deal.

Everyone wins.
