It depends on the couple

I’ve been married for 8 years, am very much in love with my wife, so there’s no way in hell in any sober state, I’d lick whipped cream off a college girl’s boobs.

Then again, I’m not a major leaguer, so I doubt very seriously that such a situation would ever present itself to me. :o)

But if it DID, I’m sure my wife would be pissed as hell. And if this was just a one time thing, I’d probably get a nice healthy dose of tough love from my better half, if you know what I mean?

If he were hitting .330/.410/.600, I might be happier about his Buttery Nipple shots off the bosom.

Despite last night, he ain’t had a good year. Is he off PED’s? Is he not capable of handling all this stress that comes with being a Star in the MLB? At one time, I hoped, but now? We need to look at other options for the longer term. Not because of his morality, but because of the risk he poses.

Who knows?

I just imagine that he has this little voice that he’s pushed to the far reaches of his subconscious that’s always there. And one day he just said “fuck it, I ’m getting loaded,” and that little voice, or whatever it is, took over for a night. And part of just saying “fuck it, I’m getting loaded,” means that he doesn’t care much about things like consequences. That happened before he ever took a sip.

When the camera got involved, that’s when things changed. He wasn’t trying to hide (or Hyde, for you literary types) his addicted self anymore. When he took his shirt off and posed for pictures, I believe, rightly or wrongly, that he was fulfilling some baser need to get caught, and push that little voice back down in its place.

Then again, maybe I’m over-thinking this. But, having been drunk off my ass with some regularity at several points in my life, there’s a point where you still have some modicum of control. You’re still drunk, but your motor functions are still passable. The point beyond that, your a sloppy mess. Those pictures would have had to happen in the space between those two points for it to be him just getting tanked. I guess what I’m saying is: I dunno…

The fact that Josh owned up

to it immediately in January says way more about Josh and his recovery than the slip. Like he mentioned, just a big reminder what happens to his behavior when he indulges.

Addicts slip. It happens. Avoiding a relapse to addiction is what matters. He’s handled this just like a recovering addict would and should.

I may end up applauding Josh more after today than at any time in his Rangers tenure.

by stltxfan on Aug 8, 2009 1:46 PM CDT reply actions

Yup.

Anyone who has friends who are addicts know that they slip – and what happens afterwards is key.

It’s tough…

Me, too

I’ve been pondering how the whole contract situation plays/played out in all this mess.
How many millions did he just cost his family?
How much trade value was just destroyed?
How much team leadership was just lost?

by shroomer on Aug 8, 2009 2:15 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't really think

it affects those things too much. Everyone knows his history and the likelihood of relapse. Maybe I’m wrong, since this is such a graphic illustration of those risks, but I think his trade value was well under his player value already because of the risks. I think his teammates are still behind him.

I dont recall 100% but didnt contract talks kind of come to a standstill not too long after January?

Hamilton

This does remind you, though, of why giving him a long-term contract is a bad idea. Given his past (and primarily the question of what all those years of drug abuse will do to his longevity) and his age, he should just take him year-to-year the next three seasons.

Even if the drugs were not part of the equation, extending Josh has always been a foolish idea

Major league players regularly taking pre-spring training batting practice at Packard Stadium include Josh Hamilton (Texas), Craig Counsell (Milwaukee), Dustin Pedroia (Boston), Andre Ethier (LA Dodgers), Jacoby Ellsbury (Boston), Justin Morneau (Minnesota), Coco Crisp (Kansas City), Scott Hairston (San Diego), Russell Martin (Dodgers), Conor Jackson (Diamondbacks) and Luis Gonzalez (free agent).

The point of this is that Packard Stadium is around the corner from API and Maloney’s. I had friends who saw him around Tempe, so this is no shock to me at all.

Fucking Josh Hamilton's wife

I think it will be a great day when Hamiltons wife gets boned by a few dudes with 12 inch cocks who are actually adults. Instead…she is stuck babysitting a fucking clown who can’t figure out how to be a grown up. Hey..if you are a single MLB player, more power to you, live it up. But when you don’t have enough common sense not to hurt your kids..you are a pretty low, self-indulged fuckbag. But he is stuck being a 12 yr old his whole life..talking like he just got out of vacation bible school. Fuck this clown.

I'd still extend him

I believe both the rangers and Josh have acknowledged that any extension will be voidable by the rangers if he relapses with drugs and/or is banned as a result

Not me

year for year for him til he is free agent eligible.

Me either

And it has nothing to do with his drug and alcohol issues. It’s more about his injury history and lack of sustainable play that would keep me from extending him.

Yeah...

at first I thought I’d be ok with the Rangers extending him, but there are just too many issues involced with that. Especially given the lack of financial flexibility the team has right now.

It’s best to go year to year with Josh.
