Wow, indeed.

It seems odd to reward Beltre this way but maybe they know much we do not.

Did Jason indicate in what way?

He’s been a tiny bit more patient this year, but still only had a 4.4% walk rate in Bak.

I read an interesting comment regarding Beltre

I just can’t remember who wrote it or where I read it…. i am searching.

Scott Lucas

Hasn’t he proved the theorem put forth by the Greek mathematician Hypothalamus that Beltre’s walk-rate is microscopically moving in a positive direction?

by shroomer on Sep 1, 2009 2:46 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

This?
2009 isnt about numbers for Beltre. It’s about development. Is he developing? Yes. Is he developing enough to see that translate to numbers? Obviously not enough for some fans.

Scenario fun

What if Beltre goes nuts in Frisco this week, draws a few walks, hits a bomb or two and makes a couple of ooh aah plays in the field. How many slots does he move up in our offseason rankings? Some guys on the midseason list will graduate.

Only Hunter is in front of him that will graduate

if we go by the BA rules I belive of 50 IP or 150 ABs (Feliz and Borbon won’t or shouldn’t hit those benchmarks at least)

He could jump up to 11 or 12 at the most I would think

I'd probably consider it a fluke

He’s had a few stretches where he drew walks, but he’s always followed that with a month solid without one or something. I guess it would at least be cool that he’s not completely overwhelmed.

I wonder how much he’ll even play?

Hicks' control over this team must be seriously failing.

Less than a year ago he was in complete control and we weren’t allowed to even trade our first round pitchers… now we’re just outright DFA’n them.

Crazy.

It's a nice carrot to put under Beltre's nose ...

the Frisco amenities – proximity to TBIA – maybe he’ll start listening to his coaches and take a damn pitch now and again. Frisco is 2 games behind Midland but they play them the last 3 games of the season. So, it’s just for a week, maybe a few games more if they get lucky and make the POs. Paisano is probably more valuable to the playoff-bound Blaze anyway, what with his superior bat and equal defense.

Is it...

sink or swim time already for Beltre? The kid is still very young and hasn’t really done well enough to be promoted has he? What things am I missing that he has improved on to warrant a jump to AA?

Nice to see Main get some more work in at Bakersfield as well. I sure hope he rebounds next year and re-establishes himself as a top prospect.

And Diamond. Sigh…DVD.

Beltre

The kid oozes tools from all accounts. And also from people who have talked to scouts they say his development has been in line with warranting a promotion it just hasn’t translated to the statsheet

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

by bigsteve on Sep 1, 2009 3:18 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

That was poor wording on my part

Probably not warranted a promotion but his development has been above what his numbers would suggest.

He's there for a week because

he was the most convenient outfielder available. They don’t want to mess with the Bako roster because they are headed to the playoffs, and Frisco needs an outfielder with Gentry going up.

Beltre will almost certainly begin next season back in Bakersfield. If Erik Morrison were in a similar situation, just coming off injury with no team, he’d be the one going up.

For example, Zach Zaneski was moved from Spokane to OKC today.

How much progress do you find he’s made this year, Jason?

I know Perez is the youngest pitcher by alot but how about positional players?

Did you watch his third AB?

After popping up the first pitch he saw and then missing a bunt and getting hit on his two pitches in his second, he started the third by taking two pitches. They looked directed. Then he swung at everything else before grounding out.

Nice arm on him, though.

I was just walking in and didn’t get a good view of it, but it looked like he had a long run and basically got to the ball but couldn’t haul it in. There was some groaning from the crowd so he probably should have had it.

5/1 : k/bb and positive groundball ratio is why I ask

Seems like I remember he was a guy that we bought of a pretty good scholarship a couple years ago IIRC, but I haven’t read anything about him this year.

probably a good place for him

for the rest of the year. Just not enough time to stretch him out to start, I wouldn’t imagine.
