I don’t think they ever left…this team can turn it around quickly after a horrific loss.

but the NL is an inferior league. How many times have we seen a player that can’t hack it in the AL go to the NL and become awesome again (see Holliday and Smoltz)?Or a decent player go to the NL and dominate (Lee and Sabathia)? And oh yeah, the NL All Stars can’t beat the AL All Stars.

What gets me off the ledge. . .
. . . is that this team might win close to 20 more games than I expected when I fully expected them to be good soon with all this talent. Missing the playoffs is a large ding in the unexpected current excitement, but the fact that it’s even a discussion is a huge boost to the future excitement.
I know
This has been a great season so far. I like the fact that this year is the learning curve for the kids rather than next year as they learn how to win tight games down the stretch. I like how they show no fear or get down after a loss like the other night. Even in that game when they were 11-0 down they could have packed it in and just not tried.

He has given no indication that he realizes he’s supposed to struggle and occasionally give up runs.
I expect the next 10 years to be an amalgamation of Greg Maddux 1994-1995, Walter Johnson 1912-1913, and Pedro 1999-2000, with a little 1968 Bob Gibson, 1985 Doc Gooden, and 1905 Christy Mathewson mixed in. Oh, and of course he’ll break Nolan’s single season strikeout mark next season.
GOOD GRIEF, I just looked up Neftali’s numbers on baseball-reference. His ERA+ is 988!! His K/BB is 26.00!! His K/9 is rather pedestrian, by comparison, at only 11.9. I have never seen any major league player (muchless an AL 1B) be given close to
277 plate appearances where he had a .256 obp and struck out 114 times plus hit .143 with a .491 ops v LH pitching.
Most GMs pull the plug when somebody is drowning to the degree CDavis was earlier this season.
Most players who come close to what Davis did (and “close” is a relative term) are out of MLB within two years.
"Dying ain't hard. It's living that's hard."
"Ranger players, especially veterans, weren’t surprised that Daniels couldn’t find a deal"
I am stunned that you avoided my point and went on a Davis bash yet again
Interestingly, Hank has a .236 BA and a 276 OBP in 435 PA this year. That itself stinks to high heaven.
And how has he done against LHP? In 121 PA, he has posted a phenomenal .229 BA with a .240 OBP. I have almost no athletic talent whatsoever, yet I’m pretty sure I could do better than an eleven point difference between BA and OBP. Chris “Mr. Suck” Davis has a 40 point differential vs. lefties, so at least he was making an effort to get on base in spite of his contact issue. Hank’s numbers, though, suggest that he doesn’t give a damn about getting on base. He just wants to swing hard and hit homers.
Doing what Davis did at his level of age and experience is called a top prospect struggling mightily. As long as you’ve followed baseball you should know that. Doing what Hank is doing at his level of age and experience is what gets a man run out of MLB in short order. Chris is learning. Hank has NO excuses for his incompetence.
"You dont know much do you, Big Steve?"
--Finnerty.Fan on Aug 13, 2009 5:13 PM PDT
Do you know of any players in major league history allowed to
drown as much as Davis did for as long as he did?
I don’t so I have no idea what to expect from him because he was so good last year.
I’m rooting for him because if he’s as bad as he was previously, we’re not going to finish 24-15 since the latest changes were made.
"Dying ain't hard. It's living that's hard."
"Ranger players, especially veterans, weren’t surprised that Daniels couldn’t find a deal"
It would be borderline impossible for him to be that bad down the stretch
And as such, I don’t know why one thinks he would be. He had a good track record in 2008, he admitted what the problems were and what he needed to do to fix them, and he then proceeded to set the PCL on fire after he figured it out.
Taking all the evidence into consideration, there’s no reason why he should be as bad down the stretch as he was.
"You dont know much do you, Big Steve?"

Don't look now...
But TT is drowing pretty badly right now himself. Probably the only thing saving him from a prolonged Davis-like streak of futility is that he’ll run out of games.
20 K’s in 46 PAs since Salty went down. ugh.
The Texas Rangers have been synonymous with explosive firepower ever since they emptied 130 rounds into Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow in 1934. - Alyssa Milano
Salty was dreadful himself from
June thru August and the only reason he played as much as he did is because he was the centerpiece to the Tex Trade.
.217 average / .265 obp with 43K’s in 140ish plate appearances with 4 HR / 11 RBI- just awful.
In significantly less playing time, TT has been bad but also has 6 HR / 16 RBI during the same time.

2009 Texas Rangers: Why The Hell Not Us?--ghtd36 on May 13, 2009
Well Hank was in one of those games
And he had a horrible throw to the plate that cost a run and couldn’t pick another play.
Once again the Rangers were in FIRST PLACE with Davis manning 1b to start the season.
Not to mention Davis didn’t run and hide during a big series and had meaningful hits during those games where as Hank had major shrinkage against Boston.
2009 Texas Rangers: Why The Hell Not Us?--ghtd36 on May 13, 2009
There were actually THREE pickoffs that he blew v Tampa
Two of them were arguably partly the pitcher’s fault, but I feel sure Davis would have thrown his body in front of them anyway.
Blalock is bad at the plate and worse in the field. And to make matters worse, I don’t get the sense that he even cares. You could tell back in June that Davis was hurting because he knew he was hurting the team. I’m not sure Hank feels the same way. He sure doesn’t act like it.
"You dont know much do you, Big Steve?"
--Finnerty.Fan on Aug 13, 2009 5:13 PM PDT
Agreed
And I like Hank. I really want him to do well.
2009 Texas Rangers: Why The Hell Not Us?--ghtd36 on May 13, 2009
Same here
Josey thinks we root against Hank. But wanting a guy to be benched when he’s not the best option is miles different than rooting against him.
"You dont know much do you, Big Steve?"
--Finnerty.Fan on Aug 13, 2009 5:13 PM PDT
Josey...I have been one of your very few supporters in the past...
but you have lost your fucking mind now, dude.
You are a sad and delusional man.
Let's hope the second half will be as good as the first half has been.
Josey You are one out there dude, What i am wondering is
What are you going to do on this site next season after Hank is long gone from this team
Larry Parrish Was Da Man!
For not signing
Hank to 3/30

No doubt
Look at the kind of year he is having…this is not a career year This Thing is on the verge of something big, he is just having a break out year!
2009 Texas Rangers: Why The Hell Not Us?--ghtd36 on May 13, 2009
That's what I'm talking about
3/30 might not be enough to keep him.
2009 Texas Rangers: Why The Hell Not Us?--ghtd36 on May 13, 2009
I'd say more like 4/60 is fair...
I mean the Rangers have no depth at 1B.
There is no one else who can play 1B for this team in the future!
"The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance."-Socrates
Or turn "we should have kept Hank!!!!" into the new CY/Danks/Galarraga
"You dont know much do you, Big Steve?"
--Finnerty.Fan on Aug 13, 2009 5:13 PM PDT
He'll have a two-week hot stretch with some other team in May and that's all we'll hear about even after he goes 0-for-June
Yep, despite
that likelihood proving a point he often disputes: that Hank is a streaky platoon player.
G G G E-flat_______ F F F D__________....
And then, to make mattters worse, he'll play for some team that was good before he arrived
And Josey will point to their 2010 record as being all on Blalock.
I can just see it, the 2010 Yankees win 105 games, Hank has 200 some odd PA as a 1B/DH type, and all 105 wins are credited to Hank’s impact on The Room.
"You dont know much do you, Big Steve?"

Given Holland’s last two outings, I think they need to consider pushing him back a little or skipping him one time through. The way McCarthy and Nippert pitched, plus the off day, give them the flexibility to do that.
They might, but according to Wash in the press conference, he hasn't thought about what he would do
if McCarthy threw a good game today—way to plan ahead, Skipper

Doubtful he plays tomorrow. With a RHP going for Toronto I would rather have Omar play 3B than German. If MY is out for a number of games, my fear is that Wash moves CD to 3B and Hank plays 1B. Anyone know how German’s defense is at 3B?

German's defense
I think he is below average, but not atrocious at any position (non SS or CF) you put him at. He’s probably fine there for a game here and there, but we don’t want to get into a situation where he plays there daily.

In general...
they were okay. The season has been lacking a lot of the turmoil that they had throughout entire earlier seasons. And they’ve been focusing on Tommy’s romantic indecision too much. That stuff remains the focus through the end of the season…
In the end there was some good drama, but it took a while.

Doesn’t sound good.
"At this time of the season, missing even one pitch kills me," Young said. "So obviously, this is pretty tough. I’m not going to pout about it. I’ll be aggressive with my treatment and get back as quickly as possible, but I don’t have many answers yet."
The answers will start to be formed Wednesday afternoon when Young undergoes an MRI exam. The scheduling of that exam alone indicates the injury is serious. 2B Ian Kinsler didn’t have an MRI when he went on the DL with a hamstring strain in August. Kinsler missed just over two weeks with his injury.

Thought this was pretty funny...
from ESPN fantasy
Vizquel probably can’t hold up playing every day if Young has to sit out for an extended period, but he’ll pick up most of the starts at third. Esteban German is capable of standing at the position while holding a glove if pressed.
Testicals. That is all.
If hes that bad at third
I’d think putting CD at 3rd and someone not named Blalock at 1st would be a better option when Omar needs a break.
Testicals. That is all.
who at 1st then?
there just isnt another option for playing everyday
honestly, id like to smoak
Fuck Mike Estabrook
We will be fine at 3'rd if MY is out for a short period.
With Vizquel playing 3B we become the best fielding infield in baseball. And offensively except for slugging Vizquel’s numbers aren’t too far behind Michael’s. Don’t get me wrong I want Michael to get back ASAP but we can replace him for a short period.
Here is anothe reason that gives me hope: Last 30 days
Kinsler: 338/423/691
Hamilton: 357/405/513

Agreed
I suppose It could have been anyone saying that and it still would feel like a shot to the pills
I'm worried...
about the injury to MY. This offense really needs his bat.
On the plus side. What I saw today form Josh, Ian, and CD was very good. If those 3 guys can step up and do what they are capable of then the loss won’t be as big.
