Yep

It was a great run though. 90 win season is still very possible.

Indeed

That would be a nice number (and Josey’s measure of a GM is if the team can win 90 games, or at least it was when that was convenient for him).

He said they have to do it two years in a row.

I should look up the White Sox’s record under Kenny Williams and see if he qualifies.

Yep...

the fact that Feldman can’t beat Brett fuckin’ Tomko and the A’s at home pretty much means this season is done. I’ve had it with this offense.

If I have to hear about how it wasn’t the Rangers offense and Tomko just pitched a great game I’m going to go postal. How many 89 mph fastballs did the Rangers hitters swing through or pop up?

It’s been a good season, much better than I expected, but losing 3 of the last 4 to the M’s and A’s at home really pisses me off something fierce.

it reminds me of 2004

the team exceeded expectations by far and its hard to get upset, but the teams they are losing too makes it very disappointing. you think back to 5 years ago the thing that really killed them was losing 2 of 3 at home in a huge series late in the year against a bad mariners team. this year they lose 3 of 4 at home to two crap teams after coming off a big road trip. (and yes, despite seattle’s flukeishly good record i still feel like they are a crap team as long as king felix isn’t pitching.)

well on the bright side

you ahve to like the future of this ballclub, especially on the pitching side with Neftali, Holland, Hunter, etc. better than that 2004 one, granted that 2004 team did have what looked like at the time to be a very good offense – especially in tehe infield

wild card

the wild card is very much within reach, and who knows, if the Rangers play like they should and if the fans coulde actually come out and support this team, the west could be within reach as well, the offense needs to pull this team out of it and help the pitching.

only if the Rangers were in the AL Central where they truly belong, the Rangers would be in 1st, the MLB should move the KC Royals to the west and be done with it

In other news

Justin Smoak is kicking ass

Team USA continued to roll on Monday, and it was thanks in large part to a player who’s making a name for himself in Europe — Justin Smoak.
During second-round play of the International Baseball Federation (IBAF) Baseball World Cup, the U.S. improved to 4-1 with its fourth straight victory, an 11-1 rout of Netherlands Antilles at Stadio Gavignan in Verona, Italy.
Smoak, a switch-hitting infield prospect in the Rangers’ farm system, had his second multi-homer game of the tournament, hitting two of Team USA’s four long balls to move his club to 2-0 in the second round.
For the tournament, the 22-year-old is batting .444 with a team-leading five home runs and 12 RBIs.
Smoak also homered in the U.S.’s opening game of the tournament on Thursday against Venezuela, and that just so happened to be the last time his team lost. Since then, the U.S. has outscored its opponents — consisting of Germany, China, Canada and Netherlands Antilles — 36-2.

The thing about starting Feliz

is that anyone who follows him is going to look like slow pitch. I like him closing or being a fulltime 9 innings starter. He goes 3-4 innings at the beginning of a game, you put in Holland or Moscoso, the other team will start lighting them up.

Give me team chemistry and emotion over stats any day. Do you think 34,000 Ranger fans were screaming their asses off over Pudge and his .275 OBP?

I need to stop going to games...

My last 3 games:

We lost to Boston in dramatic fashion as Frank Francisco has career worst outing.

We lost to Toronto 18-10 as Derek Holland has career worst outing.

We lost to Oakland 9-0 as Scott Feldman finally unravels after pitching awesome.

All over the place.

My friend bailed on me at last minute. Was right behind OAK dugout for first 2 innings, bleachers in the 3rd and 4th (needed a walk), right in front of Josh and Tom in 2nd deck for 5th and 6th, 2nd row right behind Ranger dugout in 7th, then went home cuz I was pissed off.

I was sitting in sec 16 under the awning last night also. No bats. This team seems like they are afraid to win and get in the post season. I do not remember without looking at the box score who had the hits but I think we only had 4 and if all those hits were homers we still lose by 5. Sucked…More tickets for tonight over on the other side of the diamond near sec 37 or so.

JaMarcus And His Buddy Passes

No matter how many times I see that dude in the huddle, I still can’t get over the fact that he’s just as big as both of his tackles and one of his guards.

If he ever figures out how to take something off those low Earth orbit rockets he throws, he would be an absolute beast. Most times he dropped back last night he looked like he was trying to show off how hard he could throw it instead of throwing it to his receivers. I’m surprised he hasn’t knocked a hole in one of his receivers yet.

He got that Higgins dude flat out murdered over the middle in the 4th quarter. That dude had serious knocked-the-fuck-out twitchy arms after that hit. Until he learns to throw to receivers instead of launching it in their general direction, I think he’s going to have a hard time getting receivers to sell out over the middle to catch the ball.

It is done.

Do not let Millwood vest. He had his chances and the truth is he as underperformed his contract by a lot. Once he signed it he didn’t give enough of a fuck to take care of himself and in the end, when he decided to give a shit, and it was on the line he sucked. Blame it on Selig and be done with it.

In fact, with the season on the line the last 2 games the veterens sucked. Not a single hit last night from a vet. Not a single hit the game before unless you count Murphy as a vet.

We owe nothing to Milllwood and don’t need him for next year anyway.

"We have a better chance to win with other guys in the lineup," said Blalock, who is hitting .190 the past 30 games. "That’s something I’ve got to deal with."

It is not over but it is indeed, very bleak.

The team is out of energy and what they’re doing is not working. Having a complete game shutout thrown against you at home by an eternal spare like Tomko is unacceptable.

10-9 since the latest changes were made for those still keeping score.

It was a quote from the DMN the day after the trade deadline, Ryin.

The players on the team were upset their GM couldn’t/wouldn’t make a move to help the team when they had a clear chance to make it to post-season.

One of the big differences between Texas & Boston is that they were able to acquire Victor Martinez (6 Hr / 30 RBI with a .399 OBP/.916 OPS) while we did nothing.

Why should I delete it?

Just looking out for you Dubs.

And if it does exist, very well could be taken out of context.

I didn't make up said quote.

It was either in the DMN or Startelegram the day after the trade deadline, wanna say it came from Jeff Wilson but can’t be sure.

Rest assured, the quote was not made up.

The quote is correct..

The reading of the quote is up to the individual. Were they disappointed but knew a trade was unlikely, or were they “upset” with the GM for not making a deal? The article seemed to suggest that the players understood why it didn’t happen due to the finances, etc., but I sure they were bummed.

Hardly the biting indictment of the GM that I’d consider sig-worthy, but to each his own.

The DMN is very, very guarded in any criticisms of Tom Hicks & JD (it doesn’t happen) but that was a quote that appeared to slip thru the 5 hole of the editors.

Yes, it is up to interpretation but both Byrd & Young expressed public disappointment that a move wasn’t made to improve the team.

It’s easy to see why they feel this way – look at Victor Martinez and what he’s done for Boston and to the Rangers.

Well

Since we know Nolan has to approve all major moves, why didn’t HE get something done?

Man, between that, misjudging Purke’s signing demands, and the attendance, your boy Nolan is really fucking up this year. I think the Rangers need to fire him to get rid of the cloud of incompetence surrounding This Thing.

then the DMN is just running the Star Telegram’s article. What does that have to do with anything?

DMN

gets their Ranger coverage from FWST beat writers.

DMN occasionally have columnists opine on the Rangers but you will see no criticism of Tom Hicks or JD from them.

But what does that have to do

with the quote that this discussion is about. The DMN columnists didn’t write it. So why is that relevant?
