A bit of good Ranger news for the first time in days!
I thought it be all warm and shitty, but it just tasted like normal beer. It was still cold.
Wow,
that really helps to soften the blow of not signing Purke.
08/03/2009 A day that will live in infamy for the rest of the AL West.
Can he hit? We could use a bat right about now.

No
DG got it.

So Danny Gutierrez got it...
wouldn’t he just take Diamond’s spot on the AFL team? Doesn’t that leave us with 1 extra spot to fill?
I don't know
but I doubt that he’s ready to pitch that much right now.

My understanding was that
they held out the final spot just in case they signed Scheppers by the Fall League. They may very well still decide to just use him in instructs instead, but you never know.
God this exactly what us exhausted fans needed. Great news!

ugh
Adam J. Morris (Houston, Texas): News just broke that Texas signed Tanner Scheppers — where is he in the Ranger top 10, and is his future in the rotation or pen?
Kevin Goldstein: I need to think about where he goes before giving you a good answer, he’s certainly in there somewhere. I would bet he relieves when all is said and done.

because he said he bets he relieves

yep
but I guess it’s alright if he can end up a closer.

i dont care if he relieves or starts
as long as he’s healthy

If he's a solid setup guy
That’s a good return for a supplemental pick

He was only a supplemental pick
due to his healthy concerns.

He's still a supp pick though -- the point is the same

Right
If you get a solid setup guy from the 44th overall pick, that’s a huge win.

Before he got hurt where was he projected
to be drafted?

Top 15, I think
Realistically, though, if you get a solid setup man from the #15 overall pick, I don’t think you can consider that a disappointment, either.

But he DID get drafted 44th
Whether it was talent, injury, or whatever, he’s still a supp. pick.

Hunter's future is probably in the bullpen too
Just like we’re seeing with Hunter right now, Scheppers may be able to give us a great season or two out of the rotation before injuries force him into the bullpen where he can still be very valuable.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Reason?
What is the reasoning behind Hunter? I don’t recall any glaring injuries with TH. I MIGHT possibly be able to see the stamina, but he’s still pretty young and he still has very respectable numbers this year.
"if daniels was fired today, he would almost be sure to get another shot somewhere else as a GM
i dont know if you can say the same thing abotu RW" - knockoutking
Well the question marks on him in the minors was the change-up/off speed pitch
That change-up looks great now, but its still early in Hunter’s career and the possibility exists (getting smaller with each start) that the league will adjust to him. If that’s the case, then you still ended up getting a half season+ of great starts from him which were critical to keeping the Rangers playoffs hopes alive. Regardless of the final outcome, this team likely doesn’t make it this close to the playoffs without Hunter.
With Scheppers, his shoulder could force him into the bullpen where his health is less of a factor and he can remain effective. Still, if he only manages one great season or half season before that happens, that could be critical to the Rangers making the playoffs.

But Hunter is not a one pitch pitcher
like Ryan Drese was.

I don't have a BA account...
so the only thing I could find was that the 29th overall pick was SUPPOSED to be slotted at $1.25M, but ended up being $1.125M
Well it's over-slot then, right?
Why didn’t MLB smack this down since they are running This Thing right?

Just another sign that JD reads these boards
After failing to get Purke signed, he went and traded for a Rangers legend. Now when the playoffs appear out of reach, he goes out and signs Scheppers to try and cheer us up.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Hank is 7 runs below a zombie replacement at first base. Do you realize how terrible that is? Zombie’s can’t think, they’re slow, and they’re often ejected from the game for eating opposing baserunners’ brains. - Ben quantifies Hank Blalock
Idle thought ...
Since signees have undergone an extensive physical, especially someone with Scheppers history, is it safe to assume that the Rangers think his shoulder is pretty danged healthy?
