Beatles Anthology
Humongous 1995 documentary about the Beatles - good video quality, great audio quality. I'd never heard of it before, but I ran across it a few days ago and I'm up to the 20th viddy. Greatness so far. Highly recommended if you like the Beatles.

Was this the accompanying video to the Beatles Anthology records?
Like, mid-90s iirc.

yeah - the videos came after the doc according to the write-up there
I have the Anthology CD somewhere. I think I listened to it once thru and that was it.
I watched all of these a couple summers ago
Lots of great moments for any Beatles fan. I have often lamented the fact that Leave My Kitten Alone was not released, great rock track.

The early performance videos in the doc are amazing.
One after another they come. Mesmerizing.
I’ve learned that Jimmy Nicol sat in for Ringo on drums during their Australasian tour – 9 shows missed tue to a tonsilectomy. How have I never heard about that before? Jimmy Nicol went on to do squat and has plummeted into obscurity evidently.
I learned they were way stoned all during the filming of HELP!
I read Albert Goldman’s book about Lennon several years ago. He claimed the Beatles’ hotel beds were full of teenage groupies every night while they toured. The doc very slyly skirts around the issue but hints strongly that the boys were having lots of fun on tour.
Backbeat
Decent movie when I saw it in 1993. Definitely gave the impression they were bedding a fair share.

Jimmy Nicol
Almost looks photoshopped…

He looks like Peter Boyle
playing Frankenstein’s Monster in Young Frankenstein (except with hair, of course). It doesn’t take a lot of brainpower to realize why they kept Ringo around (musical ability notwithstanding).
The discs are amazing, obviously
But I was really disappointed by the actual documentary—mainly because just playing clips of their voices 30 years ago (at the time) wasn’t doing much for me. The few parts with Paul and Ringo talking to an off-screen interviewer were great, but I wish the whole thing had been done like that.
As it is, the best part is the jam session at George’s house where the three play Blue Moon and Thinkin of Linkin. Just fantastic.

I agree a bit
as shroom says, the early clips, vids, etc. were really the highlight for me. The format of them just sitting around talking so much in disjoint snippets got old.

t
you probably would’ve loved this
I took that at ASU so I could get an easy A. Pretty awesome class though. The prof had all kinds of live versions and b-sides that he played that he said were really rare.

I certainly would have enjoyed
getting credit for talking about Beatles music.

Yeah there's a reason it's the most popular class on campus

Did you ever listen to Howard Stern interviewing Paul earlier this year?
Here’s Part I.

btw
that same summer I watched all that I read the huge bio by Bob Spitz. It was great, but so detailed and thorough I’d only recommend it for hardcore fans.

Woohoo! A Beatles thread.
I was just thinking LSB needed another of these, because I just got Beatles Rock Band (never too old for Beatles fun on the Wii) and have been watching the Anthologies as well.
Now I can resume arguing that “Don’t Pass Me By” is unfairly criticized by Ringo-haters everywhere.
