With the Financial problems Hicks is having. If we can trade MY without picking up a dollar, should he consider it? Even if it’s a PR nightmare?

Say they decide to trade MY’s contract, that money can be used to sign Sheets and trade for Bradley (with the Cubs picking up half his contract)?

3B- Davis
1B- Smoak
DH- Bradley

I’m sure Davis can provide better Defense than what MY has done.

why would you want to trade

the cog of this offense? he’s batting .320 with the most pop he’s ever had in his bat. That’s not even considering the PR nightmare that you mentioned.

by TigerPride on Sep 2, 2009 3:23 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Because Bradley can replace MY’s offense, we get to add an all-star pitcher when healthy without increasing salary.

Sheet and Bradley’s contract also will not run as long as MY’s. We could have financial flexibility in the future.

This season is probably MY’s best season and I don’t see him repeating it next year. We would be selling at a high but it would be a PR nightmare.

I said something along these lines around the trading deadline...

if he continues to play at this level he is well worth the money, but in the last 2 years of his deal, we are all going to be hating it big time. I think it is too big of a PR nightmare though and you just have to ride out him as the face of the franchise and hope that his veteran presence contributes enough to lead this team to multiple world series victories…

Max is batting .237 with 4 HR and smoak is batting around .280 with 10 HR although he has played half his games at AA he still was better AAA than max was

by CY Feliz on Sep 2, 2009 4:45 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not by much

Max in AA last year was a beast. 354/450/646
Smoak in AA this year was really really good but not as good as Max was. 328/449/481

This year in AAA heres their lines
Max: 238/325/333
Smoak: 244/363/360

Not that much of a difference. Not enough to justify the roster moves and starting Smoaks service clock.

by CY Feliz on Sep 2, 2009 8:48 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

No

But the difference over the next month wouldn’t be worth the hassle of the roster move and the starting of his service time.

Smoak would have to be almost guaranteed to hit 300/350/500 with GG defense to be worth doing all that for (especially if its only 2 weeks till Young comes back) and nothing from his AAA time suggests he would come anywhere close to that

No, not surprising, coming from Wash. Now we have hurt defense at two positions.

Omar is by superior to MY defensively (4.6 to -6.3), we saw a little of it last night. Plus his slash for year and last 30 days are: 299/348/389 299/348/389

So now we are weaker hitting at 1 spot and weaker defensively at 2 spots. Leave it to Wash to figure out how to do that with just 1 injury.

Mikey 3, Hammy 4, Ian 5 next year, I think.

Or Hammy, Ian, Mike, if Hammy makes a big deal out of not hitting third.

Maybe even Hammy, Cruz, Mikey, Ian.

Young has the second-best OPS among AL third basemen

He’s at .900, A-Rod is at .904.

Losing a .900 OPS player is a tough pill to swallow.

I wonder

if they just didn’t think about letting Salty stick with the team and work on his hitting approach a bit if his swing is not affected by this. He shouldn’t play defense, but if he’s ok to swing a bat let him spend some extra time in the cage now and hang out with the team, learn from Pudge, etc.

We’re moving a Great Defensive 1st baseman over to 3rd base (which hes not so hot at) just because Hank “My Shoulder hurts to throw a ball” Blalock can get some playing time….

Sigh….

Yeah it's just one game, not important.

"We have a better chance to win with other guys in the lineup," said Blalock, who is hitting .190 the past 30 games. "That’s something I’ve got to deal with."

Heres why I think this is being done

If Micheal Young was hitting mostly singles and had little pop in his bat this year like he had last year and has had in the past then I think Vizquel or german would be used at 3B.

But with Young showing so much power this year I think the Rangers feel they need someone in their who can come close to replicating that. Of the options who could conceivably fit into the situation Blalock is the only one that fits. No hes not gonna come anywhere close to putting up average or OBP anywhere close to Young but he could get on a hot streak and hit some HRs and the power aspect would stay there.

I don’t agree with it but thats what i think they are going on as their line of thinking

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

Couple of headlines on Rangers' website

“Without Jones, Rangers try to make finale a hit” (about tonight’s game)
“Callup of Gentry has no bearing on Byrd’s future”

MY is injured in last night’s game, out for a while, and the reference is to AJ?
Someone somewhere thought Byrd’s future (with the Rangers or otherwise) was affected by the September call-up of Craig Gentry?

blood platelet treatment

For those that are morally opposed to steroids and hormones, how do you feel about Young taking blood platelets to decrease his recovery time?

"You can probably stick a fork in the Rangers' playoff chances for 2009." - AJM on 7/26 with the team 4.5 games out

Glad I'm not the only one

who thought of that. There are sooooo many things doctors can do legally these days with injections, treatments, supplements, I just don’t see the problem with HGH or steroids in addition to all the other tricks in the bag. The moral outrage of steroids is just silly to me.
