Happy birthday, Gary Gray
Happy birthday to Gary Gray, who turns 57 today.
Gray was the Rangers' 18th round draft pick out of Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1974. A righty hitting first baseman/outfielder, he appeared in the majors with the Rangers in 1977, 1978, and 1979, although he totaled less than 100 plate appearances in the three years combined.
He ended up getting traded after the 1979 season to the Cleveland Indians as part of a package that brought Jim Norris and David Clyde to the Rangers, then was selected by the Seattle Mariners from the Indians in the Rule 5 draft after the 1980 season.
He spent a couple of years with Seattle in a part-time role, finishing his major league career in September, 1982.

This guy must have been ultra-spare...
…because I probably attended a total of 50-60 games during those three seasons and I have absolutely no memory of him or that name. In fact when I read the header I mistakenly thought it was former Ranger SS Gary Green’s birthday.
I have no objection to man walking on the moon.
You can sponsor his baseball reference page for $5
He appeared in 34 Ranger games, playing outfield in 5 innings in a blow out loss in Minnesota, and DH’ing the rest of the time. No wonder Chad did not remember him.
His middle name begins with a “G” too.

I still have a couple of his baseball cards
For some reason I was REALLY into cards in 1981 and 1982. Not so much any other time.

Walk-off HRs
Seems like he hit a walk-off homer on back-to-back days. I’ll have to see if I can find those box scores.
