I gather...

…that the FBI made a fake bomb. This guy planted it and got arrested for it.

And of course I'm a liberal democrat and all that.

Support civil liberties. Think they’re kind of important.

But this type of shit should never, ever reach the media. His arrest should be secret. He should have a trial and a fair one but it should be kept secret. His imprisonment should be kept secret. People like this should just mysteriously disappear. It doesn’t sound like this fucko had any “colleagues” but if he did and just disappeared without any kind of trace it might make them wonder. Deny the existence of any prisons that these people could be in or just put them in existing supermax facilities.

These arrests can be made into propaganda. For both sides.

Actually

I suspect that during the Bush years, particularly the powerful Cheney years (2001-2006), there were several cases just like you said. There are probably a few dozen foreign nationals who we’ve never heard about sitting in some camp someplace after being busted planning this type of thing.

And I’m with you, I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. Definitely a sad thing though.

As long as they have a fair trial

…I don’t see how it could possibly be a bad thing. Do we have a right to know as American citizens? I guess an argument could be made for that but lots of things are kept from the public for reasons of national security. I don’t have a problem with that at all.

I got to hear some of this game on the radio.

And man did it suck. It’s been a very good season and I wish they would lay down. It would be great to see them play good baseball all the way through. It’s important, actually. Or at least I think it is.

My favorite part of the broadcast
Barnett: Feldman….. now in danger….. of going 0-for-the Bay Area….. with a loss against the Giants….. earlier this year….. and now………. a potential loss against the A’s.

Nadel: Well he did win here back in May but that seems like soooo long ago…

by oc on Sep 24, 2009 7:05 PM CDT up reply actions

Wait, Barnett made a mistake that was corrected by Nadel?

Wonder how many times this year Nadel has mentally rolled his eyes…

Yeah

I usually really enjoy listening to games while at work. This one made me depressed and led to me walking aroudn aimlessly for an hour.

90 wins is looking less and less likely, which is sad. Of course, it isn’t a 90 win team. It has been a 100 win team for two months and a 75 win team for four months…

Still, the best overall year in the last 10, easily

2004 was a mirage, I’m sure most saw that. That team far, far overperformed. I really enjoyed ’04, but still… OTOH, this is a rapidly ascending team, with several budding above average players. That makes me far more excited than the lightning in the ’04 bottle.

(finally) hurts Feldman?

Is that possible?

by 3Bagger on Sep 24, 2009 7:53 PM CDT reply actions

Wasn't this another game management faux pas by Wash?

He allowed Feldman to dig the hole deeper and deeper, and didn’t get anyone up in the bullpen until way too late.

by TedFord on Sep 24, 2009 7:53 PM CDT reply actions

Pretty much

He should’ve had someone warming before the start of the 4th, considering Feldman had already thrown over 70 pitches through three (and 60 in the last two innings) but he didn’t. Given the final score it doesn’t look like that big a deal, but it was kind of irritating at the time.

Hank is 7 runs below a zombie replacement at first base. Do you realize how terrible that is? Zombie’s can’t think, they’re slow, and they’re often ejected from the game for eating opposing baserunners’ brains. - Ben quantifies Hank Blalock

Might be the most interesting new show coming out this fall.

I don't know if I can explain it, but I'm almost enjoying the losing.

I know that sounds weird, and it’s not like I go in to games hoping the Rangers lose, but there’s a weird, inexplicable satisfaction with seeing them lose every day.

yep

9/25/09
Rangers have 10 to play

Division
Angels (10 to play) – 4

Wild Card
Red Sox (10 to play) – 3

The Rangers can win out, and the Angels can play .400 ball, and they still clinch. Boston can play 300 ball and clinch with the Rangers winning out.

When it came to the stretch run in August and September, this team played 500 ball rather than stepping up.

Consdering

players are paid from hundreds of K to tens of million to play, and fans are paying the money, I think that fans can take breaks whenever the hell they want, but players have to keep playing.

fwiw

I just got tired of posting in game threads. There’s not really a lot to talk about otherwise. Still watching games though I have been turning them off earlier, especially while they’re on the west coast. Today I had to work, God forbid.

But yeah I’m beaten down too. Mr. Naxal sums it up pretty well below.

by Black Francis on Sep 25, 2009 12:27 AM CDT up reply actions

Not So Much Fairweather...

I’d differentiate between “fairweather” and “beaten down.” most of the folks you’ll find here are the absolute opposite of fairweather. I think most of us are beaten down right now. I know I am.

We’ll all come back. I bet that a month won’t pass after the World Series ends before I’ll be jonesin’ for baseball.

These last two weeks are not how I want to remember this team and this season. I can’t handle the brand of bed-crapping, horse-has-bolted, wheels-have-come-off baseball this team is playing right now. It’s a professional affront to everything they accomplished this year and it makes me want to kick puppies at my TV.

But for a listlessly crappy day game that ended before most folks got off work, there wasn’t much steam to be blown off today.

It just took a little longer this year because the Rangers have had a fine season. But now that everybody’s playoff fantasies are dead and the team is playing like crap every other day…

The past few years, it has consistently been the slowest month.

People have run out of things to say, the team is playing out the string.

Beginning of November, things really start picking up again.

Well, that's why he's in the bullpen

I’m more concerned about his control, myself. He’s really, really good when he’s in the strike zone but we’ve also seen what can happen if he loses it. Seems like there’s tons and tons of live arms out there who never did accomplish that final “if only he could find some control/command”.
