Friday a.m. Rangers stuff
Another bleah day from a team that's now just playing out the string. I hope tonight's game -- which I'll be seeing in person -- is more respectable.
Michael Young says he feels better, and hopes to play next week.
Josh Hamilton expects to be back in the lineup today or tomorrow.
Craig Gentry got his first start yesterday...he didn't even check the lineup card, not expecting to be in the lineup, and had to be told he was in there.
Chuck Greenberg, one of the folks interested in buying the Rangers, had has talks with Nolan Ryan about Ryan being part of Greenberg's ownership group. Ryan hasn't ruled out joining up with Greenberg, and I have to think this is a savvy move on Greenberg's part, since having Ryan on board would help his bid have credibility with MLB, making it more likely to be accepted.

Is it possible this sale gets done in 2009?
I hope so.

I'm officially pulling for Greenberg now
Not just because of NR being involved, but the response he’s gotten from the teams he’s previously owned. They love him.

Greenberg
Just from what I’ve read of the three groups mentioned so far, I agree. Greenberg has experience running pro sports teams- and like Nolan, has been considered a very solid owner, even if it’s only been on the minor-league level.
I’d also think he could pass through the ownership vote, given that he’s been involved with MLB through his minor-league teams and also brokered the sale of an NHL franchise. Hopefully, he and his partners would have the cash and the vision to do what Hicks could not.

Arte Moreno
I’d like to see someone do for the Rangers what Moreno has done for the hated Angels.

Savvy to keep Ryan involved.
I said months ago that any new owner would be wise to publicly court Ryan, or to at least publicly state that he will ask Ryan to stick around. Having Ryan as even a small percentage minority owner is a good move for the team and its public relations.

As much as I hate to admit it...
having W as part of the ownership group was very important. He barely invested any of his own money… and made out like a bandit at the end.

How does the timing of this work for Ryan?
If Ryan agrees to join Greenberg’s ownership group, what happens if another group presents a higher offer? What if multiple ownership groups want Nolan to join?
Is there any way that Nolan can wait this out, talk to multiple ownership groups, and then join the successful group?

I'd think a conditional provision would work
With the terms of an agreement fixed, and the conditions being exclusionary if Greenberg’s bid is not the one chosen.

I'm pulling for Greenberg to win right now
Gibson doesn’t seem like a bad choice either, but Greenberg did some great things with the minor league teams he’s owned and seems like he would only interested in getting involved in the business side of things rather than force personnel decisions.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

We're skipping the important issue - what happens to John Hart?
Wiki:
On July 21, 2004 the Rangers announced a contract extension for Hart for a guaranteed two more years and an annual mutual option to extend the contract each year thereafter. In addition, the contract stipulated that once it was terminated by either side, it automatically converted to a five year agreement for Hart to serve as senior advisor to the owner.
So does he follow Hicks out the door or get a five year deal with the new owner after his agreement is terminated?

Probably a provision in the event of a sale of the franchise.

Hicks should include a cost burden
In his sale price calculation to buy off a remedial fee in lieu of Hart’s contract.

Way OT
So the Manson follower “Sexy Sadie” died….something I just learned – the Beatles song Sexy Sadie was written as a scathing rebuke to the Maharishi (sp?) when Lennon became disenchanted with his teachings, but he changed the words slightly to be about some woman named Sadie. Maybe tball has more details?

Weekend Series
Anyone hear what all is going on for fan appreciation weekend?
I heard some mention on the ticket of former players handing out things at the gate saturday but theres no mention of any activities / schedule of events anywhere on the rangers site.

What possible reason is there for either of them to play anymore this season other than risking further injury?
