Saudis Looking to buy 50% of liverpool
This may or may not effect the Rangers, but I thought it would be worth posting. A Saudi group has apparently made a bid to buy 50% of Liverpool for more than Hicks and Gilette paid for the whole club a few years ago. I have no idea how this would effect Hicks and the Rangers but it probably is not bad news and I know several of you follow this sort of thing.

The Saudi prince
I’d rather he buy the whole thing instead of just half if he’s serious about being a part of LFC. Two owners is bad enough; three is an absolute mess.
I read on another site that Hicks said there was nothing to the investment rumors, that the conversation was solely about setting up football academies in the Middle East. Honestly, I’d like to see Hicks sell his interest in Liverpool and the Rangers- he can keep the Stars, as they’re the one club he seems to have a clue how to run.

Not so fast
He stayed out of the Stars for the most part for a while, but right now he’s killing them too. He has them over ten million below the fairly low salary cap, which is something like 25th in the league. His choice for GM is also very much a question mark, and it follows his pattern of making one of two kinds of hires for his executives:
1. Promoting the assistant
2. Hiring a really famous former player
John Hart wasn’t a former player, but he was the most hollywood of the GM candidates the search consultants came up with for him.

Fair enough
I admit I haven’t paid much attention to the Stars the last few years.

I think they are going to be the Rangers this year
Plenty of exciting young talent, but not quote enough money to get players to put them over the top.
I’m interested again.

And the little bastard threw it for a swinging strike three in a 3-2 count. He’s blessed. And ballsy.

I agree
Industry publications have way underestimated the likes of Benn, Neal, Eriksson, et al as prospects, and they’d really done a pretty nice job of rebuilding on the fly under Armstrong. But they are about two players short, two guys that they could have or would be able to add if they had the cash.
And seeing SJ just go out and basically buy Heatley at the same time is sickening.

Dear Tom
Somehow, some way these guys are willing to bail you out of the biggest screw up of your life. Take the money and run. Don’t even think twice about it.
Sincerely,

My question's not Rangers realted
But if the Saudi group was to buy Liverpool, do you think they would go on a crazy spending spree like the Man City ownership group has gone on?

A little follow-up
I did some checking around on the various LFC fan sites this morning, and it looks like the Saudi prince has been negotiating to buy Gillett’s half of the team, with an eye towards eventually buying out Hicks.
Per the current partnership, if Gillett gets an offer he wants to accept, he has to consider an equivalent offer from Hicks, but it’s doubtful that Hicks could match the bid.
I’m not sure if the Saudis would go on a Man City-style spending spree- honestly, I’d rather see them invest in a new stadium and a few quality bench players. Our starting 11 is solid enough, aside from the left wing position.

I was going to say.
The starting lineup really doesn’t NEED anything. Obviously, more money is always nice though…
If Brad Pitt is playing Beane who do you want playing you?
JD: Eddie Guardado.

Half of Liverpool
I know the Saudis are rich, but can they really afford half of a city, even the Beatles’ parts?
