Rangers money issues vs Attendance

Calling out all Ranger fans......

In my opinion, the Clubs money issues could have been solved or helped with better turnout this season.

Star-divide

If the Rangers could have drawn 30+ thousand fans per game on average I believer that the increased in income alone would have helped the 2009 outcome this season.  With increased income/attendance, the Rangers would be able to pick up a pitcher or bat with they need it and not end up flat at the end of the year.  The Indians and Braves benefited from saleout or near sellout crowds in the 90's.  The Red Sox and Yankees while have bigger wallets to begin with arn't hurt by poor turnout.

I say if Ranger fans really want to see this team excell in the playoffs and put the end to Angel domination in the West, the Rangers need to see atleast 30,000+ crowns nightly and sellouts in weekend games.

I live about 2 hours from the ballpark and usually try to make it one game a season.  This year I descided to make 2 games.  There are enough Ranger fans in the D/FW area to fill the Ballpark.  The new Cowboy Stadium holds over 100,000 fans and if the Cowboys can get that many per game a few blocks away, surely 30,000 plus per game is possible.  Better attendance will help The Rangers be able to jump the Angels and be the dominating team in the AL West..

I really hope this is a teenager who just doesn’t have an understanding that the economics of a ballclub are more complicated than “we should get more people to show up.”

sadly

his comprehension of Baseball economics mirrors that of Hicks.

It was Hicks who said payroll will increase when attendance increses.

I guess this statement

will now turn out to be false even tho attendance did increase this year…

Jeeez, the players JD picked up in the Tex trade have barely made any kind of meaningful contributions to the Rangers in The Show, but the pro-JD crowd is still running around shouting "I told ya so."

Should you really...

have this opinion if you only went to 2 games and live only 2 hours away?

you think with the issues hicks has

in all his businesses, that increased revenue in baseball = increased spending on the team when you can’t meet payroll…or helping to pay down debt in other areas? if there is not debt, he still doesn’t HAVE to spend it. and that’s looking at it in a very elementary way.

All I'm saying is..

that it wouldn’t hurt for better attendance. I work and driving 4 hours to see a 3 hour game isn’t something anyone needs to be doing regularly. Anyone who lives over an hour from the ballpark should atleast try to go to a game or two. The D/FW area should be able to fill the ballpark better on a consistant basis. Atleast they don’t blackout the games because not enough people show up.

the Rangers had the highest increase of any team in MLB

in attendance from 2008 to 2009. What more do you want?

3,000 more people in the stands is what will make all the difference?

they averaged nearly 28,000 a game. I’m sick of everything wrong with this team being blamed on the fans and many times by Hypocrites

A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.

3K more people/game

means Hicks siphons more more from the Rangers to pay his debts.

Good For NothinG

I agree with NothinG.
This a franchise that has one playoff win in its history. Has never been anywhere close to an American League pennant in 37 years and has finished 3rd and 4th for the last 10 years.
What other area in the country could draw like this team does with its history?
Maybe St. Louis. Maybe Wrigley Field. Boston. New York. Only a few.
As NothinG pointed out, they drew 28,000 per game.
To do any better, there is going to have to be some sort of race down to the wire, a division title winner and for gawd sakes and American League Championship Series games played in their ballpark.
They can draw 3 million, they can average 35,000+ a game, but they have to win.
I am with NothinG, the fans should not be blamed for what is wrong with this team, it is its history, its lack of championship hope. Winning sells the tickets. That was proven this year, winning is why they had the increase of any team in MLB.

This.

I don’t see what’s so damn hard to understand about it. Any potential owner needs to realize this too, especially in this market. Why do some clubs command higher price tags when they are sold? Because they have a history of being playoff contenders, and that makes them more profitable. Even the Cubs, who haven’t won a World Series in over 100 years sold for what, $845 million? They are at least a playoff threat though, and they have a history behind them. What do the Rangers have? Nothing, a history of being bottom-feeders. In order to get more people out to the park, and turn this thing into the profit machine that it could be, the new owner is going to have to realize that if he plans on doing things the way Hicks has done then he’s not going to get any better results. There is no salary cap in baseball. The Rangers have won ONE playoff game EVER. Whoever comes in needs to be prepared to invest money into the club instead of just paying the $525 million dollar price tag or whatever it’s going to be, rolling with a $50 million dollar payroll and hoping for the best. Hell, spend like you’re buying the Cubs. Put what’s left over after the sale is finalized into free-agents, scouting, drafting, international scouting/free-agents, marketing, ballpark upgrades, television/radio broadcasting, etc… You know, come in and make an impression that you’re serious about this shit and want to win and want to get fans excited about the team, and then go out there and do it. People will come out to the ballpark and spend money on the team. It’s not like we play in Kansas City or something, this is like the 4th largest media market in the country, take advantage of it. It’s pretty much already set up to go as far as the core of players goes, and after this season there will probably be a jump in attendance next season anyway. All it needs is somebody who isn’t afraid to dump some money into it to make some necessary upgrades. People in DFW will support a winner, but they will turn their backs on a perennial loser. That’s just the way it is around here. If a new owner doesn’t understand this, and either (a) doesn’t have the kind of capital necessary to put into a team that is going to be a perennial contender, or (b) isn’t willing to, then they are probably going to fail as an owner. Not saying we need to spend like the Yankees, but the next owner doesn’t need to be so gun shy about writing checks. Ask Tom Hicks.

Ric Renner is a giant douche.

I can’t believe Hicks lets you post out in the blogosphere. Now get your ass back to the office

Hicks is looking for you. There are several offers on the table to purchase the club that need deciphering.

Money

I think that Tom hicks should sell all of his ownership of the Stars and Liverpool. There will be a lot of money for us. Plus the Liverpool fans hate him. His pal who bought the team sold his share. so he wouldn’t have to worry about all the people who was sending in letters wanting to kill him which is creapy. Anyhow He would have more money for the rangers
