Gold Glove for Elvis?
I know that the guys on this site are better at breaking down the statistics better than I am, so I have to ask is Elvis Andrus deserving of a Gold Glove for his defense this year? I am not asking if he is going to get a Gold Glove. I doubt there is a chance of that. Veterans like Jeter (gag) and Scutaro will probably be given the award before Andrus is considered. He is just a hair behind Marco S in total chances, but that is with about 15 fewer games. He's 7th in fielding percentage, but I think everyone besides those that vote have realized how little that really means. So what do the Lone Star Baseball Brains think?

but he won’t get it.

Sure he deserves it
but Scutaro deserves it just as much and has an established reputation so I think he’ll get it.

Elvis Andrus
UZR: 7.6
UZR/150: 7.9
Marco Scutaro
UZR: 8.4
UZR/150: 7.6
Is that weird for Scutaro to be “overperforming” his UZR/150?
I thought that the UZR would usually be less than the UZR/150, but I guess it’s a timing thing with where we are in the season.

maybe its a glitch
doesn’t make sense at all…. seems like it would be a simple projection of the numbers so far.. and i’ve never seen it be small before.
the preceding post was a great success.

Innings Played
Scutaro has played 1150 defensive innings.
Elvis has played 1013 defensive innings.
Scutaro is on pace to play > 150 games defensively which is why his UZR is greater than his UZR/150

Where did you get the UZR numbers?
Fangraphs currently has Scutaro and Jeter both at 5.4 and Andrus at 7.9 is by far the best AL shortstop. Jack Wilson is at 14.7 but spent most of the season at Pit and Harvey (Brewers) at 8.8 are the only NL players with higher UZR.
Elvis has a very good case.

Err, fangraphs, I believe. Maybe they changed or misquoted.

LOL @ KC
Yunieski with minus 15.6, and worth negative 1.8 wins.
According to the fangraphs value calculation, this guy has been worth negative 7.9 million dollars. LOL

That's just comical
Unless you’re a Royals fan, of course. I think Dayton may have identified Isiah Thomas as his GM role model. With any luck, he’ll trade us Greinke and Moustakas for Royce Huffman, Dustin Nippert, Warner Madrigal, and the American rights to Kam Loe.

i feel so, so sorry for the royals
i mean, they just signed that guy til 2014? they need to set up a situation that causes more to sexually assault a woman he works with to get him fired.

Jeter
I’ll bet any amount of money that Jeter wins it this year.

Jeets .. does he Tweets?
UZR: 5.8 (way wayy up from -15.3 in 2007)
UZR/150: 6.8
Does anybody have the +/- or do you have to pay for that?

Gold Glove awards are about as significant as the ESPY's.........
…..and almost as idiotic as All Star voting.
It’s pointless to worry about them. Just wait for the awards to be announced and then enjoy a healthy laugh.

Sort of
I worry about postseason BBWAA awards about as much as I worry about the all-star roster, not much. But it would still be very nice if Andrus started his career with a gold glove and the national media gave the team some nice attention because of it. The fan in me roots for Andrus to win it, but I’ll be surprised if he does.

honestly
i would like Elvis to get recognized by more than just the big time followers of the Rangers for how good of a player he is. He wont get that value from the national pundits without gold gloves simply b/c thats what they see. If they see a .270-.280 hitting, popless SS who supposedly has a good glove, they just see a decent player… but as is the case with omar vizquel, they see a guy who has gold gloves at SS and therefore is recognized as the games best defender, they see a totally different player….

plus a GG as a 21 year old rookie
has some historical significance, I’d guess.

that's the main reason why it wouldn't happen

funny thing is...
His second half surge with the bat is probably earning him more love for the GG than his fielding. Plus with the team sticking around in the playoff race, he’s probably getting more national exposure.
