Perez is pitching tonight.

Last day of the regular season

Is Bakersfield the only Rangers’ farm team going to the playoffs?

Elvis Andrus - 2009 AL Rookie of the Year
Mitch Moreland -Tom Grieve Rangers Minor League Player of the Year
Martin Perez - Nolan Ryan Rangers Minor League Pitcher of the Year

Today's BAK result will decide homefield advantage for them

… according to the BAK newspaper. Win and they open at home.

6 innings is impressive

Im assuming he gave up a HR or two tonight since he only gave up 5 hits and no walks.

A ~5.50 ERA in AA as an 18 year old is damn impressive. Definitely something to build on going into next year. Wonder if he gets an invite to ML spring training and an inning or two in a spring game

Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

Nope

He gave up a 2-run triple and a sac fly in the second, but that was the only XBH he gave up. Just going by the summary, it looks like he was pretty good outside of the second inning, really.

Hank is 7 runs below a zombie replacement at first base. Do you realize how terrible that is? Zombie’s can’t think, they’re slow, and they’re often ejected from the game for eating opposing baserunners’ brains. - Ben quantifies Hank Blalock

no HRs

his perpheral numbers are fine in AA that one rough opening outing skews it… Heck of a year for Marteen

68 pitches in six innings

Big improvement over his previous Double-A starts.

Thanks, Jason

Did you notice any changes in what Perez was doing this game vs the previous time you saw him pitch in AA?

What did you think about Gutierrez’ stuff in his start on saturday?

by spurdynasty on Sep 8, 2009 9:54 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I didn't see it, but

in earlier starts, Martin was getting ahead and then wasting pitches, always going for the strikeout. I think he’s learning that he doesn’t always have to make that perfect pitch when he gets ahead. He’s okay if he just gets a ground ball.

I can’t comment on Gutierrez because I have observations and an interview with him up on my front page right now :)

That's good to hear about Perez

Do you know if this year’s Frisco staff stresses pitch efficiency? It seems that many of this year’s RoughRiders pitchers have fewer strikeouts than would have been expected based on their career numbers.

they probably just saw Kasey Kiker pitch and told everyone to pitch the opposite of that

Blaze video

Nice featurette on the local BAK news after the Braves last reg season game last night.

Mendonca makes a big-league-looking pick/transfer/throw in one highlight – nice
I’m not sure who the face-pie perp is – Mendonca? Morrison? Kaase? – maybe Jason Cole knows that face.
And I think that’s David Paisano holding T-Rod’s #17 jersey near the end.

Also, we all love Steve Buechele and all that – but, he kinda looks like a character from Ironweed to me.

Friedrich vs Roark

Figures that it would turn into a bit of a slugfest.
