USA Today Feature on Rangers' Young Pitching

That's right -- a national news outlet making a big deal out of Texas' pitchers. In related news, a pig flew across my backyard an hour ago.

USA Today

My favorite part:

Feliz says his greatest thrill was striking out Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz, one of his heroes. Yet, when he called to tell his parents, his mother had a request: Strike out New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, too.

"So when I did that," Feliz says, "I told my mom, 'There you go. There's your present. Don't ask me to strike anyone else out, OK?' "

Ha ha ha, greatness.
“So when I did that,” Feliz says, "I told my mom, ‘There you go. There’s your present. Don’t ask me to strike anyone else out, OK?’ "

I love that damn kid.

This cracked me up
“[Hunter] reminds me of the fat kid in school who got all of the girls,” Rangers general manager Jon Daniels says of the 6-3, 255-pound right-hander.

Feel free to speculate as to how much tail JD got in high school…

That would be none.

None tail for JD

Hank is 7 runs below a zombie replacement at first base. Do you realize how terrible that is? Zombie’s can’t think, they’re slow, and they’re often ejected from the game for eating opposing baserunners’ brains. - Ben quantifies Hank Blalock

Good article

but this is why the MSM sucks — fact check plz.

Holland challenged hitters, and his fastball began to improve dramatically. His velocity increased to 91 mph after his sophomore year. He accepted the Rangers’ $200,000 signing bonus, and his fastball went from 94 mph at Class A Clinton (Ind.) to 96 mph at Class AA Bakersfield (Calif.) to 98 mph at Class AAA Frisco (Texas).

They also screwed up Class A - Clinton is in Iowa, not Indiana

Hilarious

There is a small town Clinton in Indiana (and several other states) but it would take most of them to have enough population to field a team in the A minors.

I hope there's a correction.

That should be embarrassing for a writer, but some don’t care how many mistakes they make.

That's why they call them business sox

It's just minor league baseball, it's not like it's a real sport!

If it was the NFL, then that would matter.

Especially

When they pull all of their crap from the internet and don’t actually make a phone call. We all know the internet is a medium without mistakes.

Not (m)any MLer's...

can say they struck out Big Papi and A-Rod with 98-100 mph gas in key situations during their rookie season.

The fact that Feliz says he can tune up his fastball to 100 whenever he was is orgasmic. Fucking orgasmic.

As for Hunter, this shit made me laugh : “He reminds me of the fat kid in school who got all of the girls,” Rangers general manager Jon Daniels says of the 6-3, 255-pound right-hander.

Overall a pretty good article, always nice to see the Rangers get some love. Especially the young pitching.

I don't believe he can just dial it up to 100 "anytime he wants."

Otherwise he’d do it more often.

Gracchus (about Obama): I think he knows what America is. America is the mob. Conjure money for them and they'll be distracted. Take away their freedom and still they'll roar. The beating heart of America is not the paper of the Constitution, it's the power of the media. He'll bring them debt - and they will love him for it.

by Aquaman56 on Sep 9, 2009 12:26 AM CDT up reply actions

Nah, he knows he's more effective when he varies the speed of his fastball

When a guy throws 100 with good secondary stuff, that can be highly effective. But when a guy can throw 100, but the hitter never really knows what speed the heat will be coming in at and has to stay guessing, to go with good secondaries, that’s borderline unstoppable.
