That would have been a home run at the new Yankee Stadium.

thank you
I am trying to make up for lost movie watching time, as a kid all I ever watched were sports on the tele. I am just now starting to enjoy good movies, I saw Pulp Fiction for the first time this past weekend, after I watched Inglorious Basterds and loved both of them, although they are very similar

It was hit to the first row
Which in that stadium is about where the third row would be in ours. Plus the fence is probably 8 feet high. Cruz had no chance. And if it would have hit the wall it would have bounced to Byrd anyway

OT- I know it's football, but did everyone see this Terrelle Pryor quote?
"Not everybody is a perfect person in the world. Everyone kills people, murders people, steals from you, steals from me, whatever. I just feel that people need to give him a chance. I always looked up to Mike Vick, and I always will. I still think he’s one of the best quarterbacks to me. I love Mike Vick."

so, what kind of zombie is Terrelle Pryor
id have to say he’s a fast zombie
Feliz says his greatest thrill was striking out Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz, one of his heroes. Yet, when he called to tell his parents, his mother had a request: Strike out New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, too.

Fast zombies don't exist.
But he’d be a “faster than average” slow zombie because he’s tall and probably in shape.

BTW BigSteve
Did you say in the last thread you don’t want Feliz starting out in the rotation?
You cited the first game, saying it should be an “eye opener”. Well one poor game compared to quite a few great games says no. We’re stretching him out in winterball, and if his spring goes good, he’ll be in the rotation. Who cares if he’s like Holland? It’s a process.
and was it really that "poor" of a game?
by blueballlefty on Sep 8, 2009 9:17 PM CDT up reply actions
Yes I did say that
With Millwood, Feldman, BMac, Holland, and Hunter thats a pretty nice starting 5.
Today what I saw was a guy who couldn’t command his breaking pitches (hence the walk and HR) which as we saw with Holland this year spells doom for a young starting pitcher. With those 5 guys above starting the season it would be in the teams best interest to start Feliz in OKC as a starter which would also help stretch him out. If someone gets injured then hes available to come up. If we are able to keep him down until June or so while being competitive it could also buy us an extra full season of team control on the guy which with his talent is huge.
And then if our starters are strong next year and our bullpen needs help we could do just like we did this year and bring him in as a reliever.
But to start next season I don’t think he is in the rotation
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
i agree, give Feliz a bit of time in the Minors
Feliz says his greatest thrill was striking out Boston Red Sox DH David Ortiz, one of his heroes. Yet, when he called to tell his parents, his mother had a request: Strike out New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, too.
"So when I did that," Feliz says, "I told my mom, 'There you go. There's your present. Don't ask me to strike anyone else out, OK?'
I bet he is.
He’ll stretch out in winterball.
by Black Francis on Sep 8, 2009 9:22 PM CDT up reply actions
So you want to stretch him out
then put him in the pen, then stretch him out again when he’s ready to start? Great logic.
Stretch him out
Then if by mid season the starters have shown they are strong and along with Harrison, Moscoso, etc down in OKC are deep, AND we need relief help then you put him in the pen.
I have said from the moment they moved him to the pen thats where I think he ends up. Granted his secondary stuff looks great from comments from some of our resident gurus apparently his stuff did not look like this in OKC which is why I was skeptical. I feel like we will feel comfortable enough with our rotation and the waves of talent coming up that we will move him into a relief role and he will be our closer for the next 12-15 years
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
That's doing a major disservice to Feliz, the Rangers, and the fans
and you should be exiled from the fanbase for thinking that way.
How so?
How is that a disservice?
Feliz as a dominant, Rivera-esque closer would be BAD for the Rangers?
If we have 5 capable starters already, holding Feliz back to gain an extra year of guaranteed control is bad for the Rangers? Its not like I am advocating having Kris Benson in the rotation so we can hold Feliz back.
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
The closer position is the most overrated roster spot in baseball
and saves are the most useless stat. Any one reliever can close a game, as long as the manager plays the matchups. A starter is 20 times more valuable than a reliever.
Like I said
Its not like im holding Feliz back by signing Kris Benson or Jason Jennings for a rotation spot. If we have 5 capable starters then there is no need to rush Feliz and watch him struggle (which hes gonna do as a starter). And if the current crop of starters hold strong and the waves of talent keep progressing then its possible that Feliz ends up in the pen and thats where he helps this ballclub out the most.
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
Really
ush Feliz and watch him struggle (which hes gonna do as a starter)
Bullshit, you act like you’re fucking Nostradamus. You have yet so see Feliz pitch one inning as a starter in the bigs to make this conclusion. If you draw his minor league stats, most of that can be attributed to him working on his secondary pitching.
its possible that Feliz ends up in the pen and thats where he helps this ballclub out the most.
Again, bullshit. Mariano Rivera’s WAR for his career is 19.2, that’s since the stat was kept since 02. However, Greg Maddux’s career WAR is 24.7. A starter is much, much more valuable to a team than a reliever.
He is gonna struggle next year
Rookies do that. Its not a huge leap. Especially seeing him today when hes not able to locate his secondary stuff. Hey that sounds similar to some of the stuff we heard about him in the minors how bout that. We are only talking about next year here remember.
And next year, as a starter, I don’t think he will be better than Holand (our presumed #5) or anyone frankly in the proposed staff.
As a reliever however he could tremendously help this club out like hes done this season. So if by June or July we have a solid starting staff I believe we will look into turning him into a reliever again. And if that happens then I think its very likely that that becomes his permanent home.
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
But that's so stupid
And irrational logic. Feliz as a starter is arguably better right now than Millwood (who’s not going to be here much longer) harrison and Moscoso. I don’t get where you get off saying we have this pitching depth in levels above AA, because we don’t. The best pitching prospect that’s currently not on the Rangers is Perez the rest aren’t great or have a very good chance of burning out.
Your logic is terrible, very terrible.
BTW, the all rookies struggle attitude is stupid and Tommy Hanson agrees with me.
Feliz as a starter
Would struggle to put up an ERA lower than 5.50. He may strikeout more than a guy an inning maybe not. Hes gonna struggle. What tells me that is how guys have looked against him the second time they’ve seen him. They haven’t had a lot of success but they haven’t looked as lost as they did the first time generally.
And this depth im talking about is Harrison, Poveda, Kiker, and Moscoso who will all be in OKC along with Feliz. then if the regular starters make it through next year you are looking at Perez hopefully being near ML ready at the end of next year along with Beavan and hopefully Main and Scheppers close by. Add in any breakout candidates and we do have depth not too far off.
But that only comes into play IF the 5 guys I mentioned at first stay strong through next season. Millwood has been pretty durable since coming here, Feldman has, Holland hasn’t had any injuries I know of, Hunter the same. The only true injury risk is McCarthy which, if he gets hurt early on then you go to Feliz im fine with that. If he makes it to June or July injury free then who knows but that buys us time to make a decision with him.
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
Lol at you thinking Kiker is going to be a starter
and Moscoso. And Beavan is a middle of the rotation to a back end starter.
Lol at you already jumping the gun without giving Feliz a chance to prove himself.
Lol at you thinking a reliever is more valuable than a starter.
Lol at you if you think Perez isn’t going to struggle the same way Feliz would. BTW, his ETA is 2011. His first full year will probably be in 2012.
Lol at your opinion as a whole.
laugh all you want i really don't care
Im a huge Kiker fan and believe he will be a starter. I only listed Moscoso as depth. Im still in the air as far as Beavan goes
IM not “jumping the gun” I think most on here will verify I have been on the “Feliz will end up in the bullpen” bandwagon since the day it was announced he would move to the pen
Point to me where I said a reliever is more valuable than a starter. I said on this team Feliz in the pen could be where he helps us more. Similar but I think its a unique situation we have here.
Again where did I say Perez wouldn’t struggle. I just said he would be near ML ready at the end of 2010. I agree his first full year won’t be till 2012 but I believe he will get significant time in 2011
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
And I really don't care what you think either anymore
Because you clearly lack logic.
Point to me where I said a reliever is more valuable than a starter. I said on this team Feliz in the pen could be where he helps us more.
You said it.
Similar but I think its a unique situation we have here. And that’s straw-manning my argument that you said it.
I don’t care if you’ve been on the “Feliz in the bullpen” wagon. The worst case scenario is that he does struggle as a starter, and even if he does, you can still move him back to the pen after that period as a starter.
Having him never get the chance to prove himself as a starter is a terrible, terrible idea regardless of how he does.
Again
Where did I never give him the chance?
I said start him in OKC where he can continue working on things and stretch out while we have 5 quality guys in the majors. Then if injury, or poor performance, necessitates bring him up. If that doesn’t happen by June or July then you look at bringing him up out of the pen, like hes done this year, which could be a tremendous help for us.
After next year if you used him like this year you can revisit this whole argument. I believe if hes used next year like he was this year then he will stay out there permanently which is fine with me. Starter, closer, it doesn’t really matter where he is as long as hes a Texas Ranger
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
I know I may be dreaming
but I can’t see anyway we bring Millwood back next year, even though his option will vest, I think JD will do his due diligence to try and trade him for something, anything this offseason

Tejada is a free agent.
Willingham is arb-eligible and the Nats could just give him away or non-tender him rather than trade him for a bad contract.
Thome is a free agent.
Hafner is owed $40 million over the next three years. I’m sure Cleveland would give you Hafner for Millwood, but Texas isn’t going to do that.

they said just over 12K for attendance tonight. I bet it is for both games. There was virtually no one there for the first game.

"So when I did that," Feliz says, "I told my mom, 'There you go. There's your present. Don't ask me to strike anyone else out, OK?'
It's really had kind of a minor league flavor to it today

I used to love going up to Camden Yards for games. Baltimore’s Inner Harbour is really nice. And Camden Yards was the first of the new-style parks. Good food and beer. Not a bad seat in the house.

Keepin it Classy Gentlemen
There is, in fact, a manly and lawful passion for equality which excites men to wish all to be powerful and honored. This passion tends to elevate the humble to the rank of the great; but there exists also in the human heart a depraved taste for equality, which impels the weak to attempt to lower the powerful to their own level, and reduces men to prefer equality in slavery to inequality with freedom.
