Gentry might make the club as a 5th OF
doesn’t mean I’m voting for him either.

Ben Snyder, if he makes the team, would contribute a hellova lot more than Gentry as a 5th
but I get your point,
Expected Value = (% chance of prospect contributing) x (level of prospect contribution)
DiFazio’s chance of contribution is so low at this point that I can’t justify voting for him above someone who is very likely to help the team out this year (but we’ll know more in roughly 26 days :) )
I think if it were a non-Rule V pick
you’d have more reason to go with Snyder, but if he is a part of the Rangers ML team this season, its only because he has to be and not because he necessarily earned it. Right now, I went with Tullis due to his impressive Spokane debut, but I also like DiFazio more than Snyder. The problem with Snyder for me is that his ceiling is very limited right now while guys like Tullis and DiFazio still have time to prove one way or another what they can become. Snyder is a LOOGY candidate right now who might turn into a solid lefty RP, but likely isn’t much of an upgrade over a guy like Beau Jones. And at this point in the rankings, I’m voting for who I’d take my chances with which means more weight goes to a player’s ceiling and potential over how likely they are to reach it.

Tullis!
Braden is in the running for a theoretical future child’s name.
If Brad Pitt is playing Beane who do you want playing you?

Braden Tullis
I’ve already mentioned my reasons.
After Tullis, I’d go Luis Sardinas, Vin Difazio, and Mike Bianucci
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.
Difazio and Nooch don't really belong in the same sentence as Sardinas,
And that’s not even mentioning all the guys like Thompson, Bell, Erlin, Blackwell, Doyle, Lemon, Alvarez, etc.
As for Tullis… Meh.
Maybe, I guess.
Though I’d still take all those guys I mentioned (plus some more, even) before I’d take Tullis.

I'm afraid I'd have to disagree
especially in regards to Tullis. His strong K/9, BB/9, and GB/FB ratio place him above those you mentioned. His GB/FB ratio was 2nd best in the entire system behind Ross.
I don’t see how you could put Escobar over Tullis if you compare their performances, and that is a big reason you liked EE am I right?
we know your Lemon love, but he’ll be nothing more than a backup/bench player at best.

x
Aaron Fitt: I could see Bianucci as a righthanded power bat off the bench, a fourth outfielder. He’s got good power and athleticism, but he swings and misses a lot and is not a very good defender. The Rangers generally like another corner outfielder, Joey Butler, better. Butler just has a little better feel for all phases of the game, though he doesn’t have Bianucci’s power.
This is getting a little silly with Sardinas
at least if the intent is to identify the best prospect, as opposed to the one with certain points on his resume (x stats at y level) or to emulate another list or something. The guy was one of the six or so highest regarded international prospects in the world as of signing day, received a bonus that is in line with that, and supposedly didn’t disappoint in the fall.
There wasn't necessarily a consensus on rankings past
about the top 3-4, but when BA ranked them on July 1 they ranked him sixth after Sano, Mateo, Sanchez, Pimentel and Vinicio. If you take Mateo out, he would be top five. Profar clearly ranks higher now and would probably be top five, but it’s not like Sardinas has done anything to drop him from that range, at least from what I’ve heard.

Indeed, but at least we got Alfaro and Payano.
They must’ve really liked Alfaro, too, given that huge ass bonus.

Yeah...
..he’s that ‘flying under the radar’ signing I’m really curious about.

I guess part of it for me
is probably just that he seems so overshadowed by Profar.

no joke
all those swayed to Sardinas, join the Tullis show next time eh? He won’t disappoint

Tullis and Erlin
would be the next two, I have to think.
It’s a little tough to sort through this system’s somewhat intriguing pitchers, though. Gomez, Alverez, Thompson all are pretty close as well.

where would you put other 09 draftees
like McBride and Doyle?

In that general area
I think it’s pretty hard to differentiate among quite a few arms at this stage, and that’s kind of a good thing in this case.

FWIW
Aaron Fitt of BA agrees with me:
Ben (Leland Grove): What’s the scoop on Luis Sardinas, and where did he land overall?
Aaron Fitt: He’s got an exciting speed/defense package at shortstop, and the Rangers think he’s got a real chance to hit, too, though he’s not as strong or as advanced offensively as Profar. He came in at No. 13.

Wow
that’s another bullet point in the strength of the team’s international scouting. I’m a little apprehensive of all this talk of a world wide draft. I’d hate to see that advantage weakened, though I’d guess at first they’d have an edge in scouting potential picks from the area.

I was impressed with his bat at instructs
I only saw him take a few cuts but he had some nice bat speed for a dude his size and age. It may be two years before he puts up any real production or numbers because his frame is so small, but he’s got some pretty elite tools.
Was that you...
…mentioned in Peter King’s column this morning as someone who went to dinner with him and some other NFL guys and made a friendly wager on who drafts Tim Tebow?

Ha
No. There’s a Yahoo! Sports NFL writer named Jason Cole. He used to be the Dolphins writer at the Miami Herald.
Yah, this was no question for me.
Sardinas is the man.
6th overall on BA’s j2 list they did way back when, iirc.

As long as
Neil Ramirez is a higher ranked prospect than Marcus Lemon, I suppose their is some validity to this poll.

Are we not adding Alfaro cause of the late signing?
I wouldnt’ve voted for him here, but he’s a top 25-35 guy, imo, and so he prolly deserves mention at this point, due to his overall sexiness.
