Riley Cooper Chooses Football
"Cooper said Monday afternoon that he had told the Texas Rangers, who had drafted him in the 25th round of the 2009 draft, that he was not going to play baseball and instead wanted to continue his football career in the NFL. Cooper had to give back his signing bonus, which Baseball America reported was $250,000."

Question
is there a player from this current Florida team that isn’t a gigantic douchebag?

All cornerbacks
are inherently douchebags. If they weren’t, they wouldn’t be very good players.

Parents live in Gainesville,
so I actually like most of the team. Except for Brandon Spikes, not a big fan of eye gougers. Cooper’s an awesome athlete- I think he’ll carve out a nice NFL career
Tebow- I never understood why people don’t like him, not his fault the media creams over him.

I think
religious/political statements during the Superbowl is well within the realm of douchedom.

Yeah religion talk annoys me too,
but look who is dad is and how he was raised. It was pretty unavoidable, and I do think at least he’s sincere in his belief. I’ve met a lot of people who got off on the preaching their ‘holier-than-thou’ lifestyle. I don’t think that’s him.

preaching about a topic like abortion
it’s hard to avoid acting holier than thou
anyway, he’s home schooled. You have to try really hard to come back from that.

Really?
I didn’t know that. It seems that it would be tough to get into a big Div-1 school as a starting quarterback without a good public school football program.
My problem with Tebow is the whole virginity thing. Who can be that fucking stupid?
Public School Football
He got some provisional exception to play for an already strong 4A/5A program in the Tampa area IIRC. As a Seminole fan, that was the beginning of his doucheism.
I think there is a STRONG possibility that we see Teblow get in to all sorts of problems once/if he makes it a few years in the NFL. Possible narcissist complex with that kid.

and right there is the problem…
Most people, I’m guessing, wouldn’t have such an issue with religion if you just kept it to yourself. But when you throw it in people’s faces, pretending to “know” the answers to life or that there is this mythical being controlling life on Earth, and therefore telling us that we’re wrong…it makes you look freakin’ retarded and simple minded.
"The mystery of the beginning of all things is insoluble by us; and I for one must be content to remain an agnostic" - Charles Darwin, you know who he is...
Well...
the evangelical viewpoint is that a Christian’s duty is to spread the word. So they’re raised to believe in something that’s not real and told they have to spread it to others. Not to mention that they’re taught that anyone who doesn’t believe their archaic and ignorant bullshit is going to some mythical “hell”.
Wow
such unbiased views on the subject.

Agree, rather than my going to war with JBP I'd rather we all just stay away from the topic

Plus a big One
Theres no better atmosphere killer than religious or political discussion.
I’ve always been kinda surprised that it’s always gone relatively unchecked at LSB, because most of the other SBN blogs don’t seem to allow it for that very reason. I don’t believe even LL does, and LL has frequent 900+ post off-topic threads.
Morality you can fake. Fun you either have or you don't.
Yes, it's biased.
So?
I guess if you want to believe in Jesus or Allah or Ganesh or unicorns or Santa Claus, that’s fine. But don’t expect people not to point out the fictitious nature of such things.
Your non-belief
is actually a belief as well. No one knows the answers, though we’d all like to think we’re correct in our personal beliefs. But you cannot prove your belief any more than Christians, Muslims, Jews, or anyone else can.

I know that my non-belief is a belief.
But the Abrahamic religions (and many others) can at least be traced back anthropologically to their origins. Polytheism and monotheism were mankind’s way of explaining the inexplicable. But as we progress as a species and gain more knowledge, there are fewer and fewer questions that only religion can “answer,” and some questions for which religion’s answer has already proven false (the creation story, for instance).
While these answers cannot prove or disprove the existence of an omniscient being outside of our universe, they are making the idea of one more and more improbable. So yes, I admit that I cannot prove my belief, but I can at least say that it’s more probable.
answers
I disagree. The more I read science the more questions I have. Yes, the creation story is just a story, some people take the Bible too literally, but the more science discovers about the universe the more questions are raised. And none of it makes a creator less probable to me — it simply makes the most common descriptions of that creator off base.

But the problem about taking the Bible too literally
is that you HAVE to if you want to believe that Jesus was the son of God. You can’t cherry pick the book at your leisure, as so many Christians are wont to due in this day and age.
And really, the beauty of science is that if it raises more questions with its answers (which is not nearly as often the case as you’re suggesting), then it’s there to answer the new ones as humanity’s knowledge ever increases.
This is the last ill say on the subject but i had to point out one thing...
You miss the entire point. Jesus was a historical figure. This CAN be proven, this is NOT fiction. You arent even arguing your own point correctly. You are arguing not whether Jesus existed, you are arguing whether the claims he made of being man’s savior were/are actually true. I just wanted to say my peace and point this out. I will not respond to any replies. Hope to see you in discussion on all things baseball in this or other threads :-)

I know you won't respond to this, but I do appreciate the reply.
Honestly, I regret saying Jesus, I meant to just say “God” or something similar (I suppose I should’ve said Holy Spirit). Though if you adhere to Christian beliefs, then I actually DID say God ;)
I don’t dispute Jesus was a real person. I actually believe he did exist, and was a great humanitarian. Sadly, I think many hardcore Christians have lost sight of his GOOD teachings and concentrate too much on espousing his bad ones.
Christian playing devil's advocate here
What is the proof that Jesus existed, historically? What little there is has been challenged pretty convincingly and Christians should not lean on any of the “proofs”. Faith is the only option.

I think many scholars
would agree that he existed. Just not in the capacity that the Bible depicts.
And faith is NEVER the only (and in many cases is probably the worst) option. As Mark Twain once said, “Faith is believing something you know ain’t true.”
It's conventional wisdom
that he existed, but I see zero convincing proof of it. And in the end, if you are going to believe in any religion, faith is what you end up with, because none of them can be proven. Faith is the only option if you’re going to follow any religion.

I chose Zoroastrianism...
what can I say, I’m a sucker for fire.
I believe they have a term for that now…

Yeah...
I hate people who believe that archaic bs. “The earth is round.” Why are you stuck in fuckin Phoenician thinkin, man!? We’re thousands of years past that! We should respect nature? What are you, Native American? Don’t you know that all knowledge came about in like the last 50-100 years?

sounds like

are pretty much the same.
