Making The Case For Cliff Lee In Game 4 (Again), And Other Things

+

"Ah, yes, here we go again: Tommy Hunter is slotted for Game 4, and the short-rest vs. regular-rest debate on Cliff Lee can continue to rage through next week and beyond. Part of the Rangers' decision on this issue appears to stem from historical data, as over the last eight years, pitchers starting on three days' rest in the playoffs have logged an ERA nearly 80 points higher (5.01 ERA) than those pitching on four days' rest (4.18 ERA), but, of course, there's enormous year-to-year variance in the three days' rest numbers that seems indicative of certain pitchers being able to handle short-rest assignments with a large degree of proficiency, and others melting down." - JOEY MATSCHULAT
