The Round Rock Express hasn't played a lot of winning baseball under Nolan Ryan's watch

the Edmonton Trappers moved to round Rock to become the AAA-level Express after the 2004 season.

Records:

2007: 61-81
2008: 64-79

Other than completely revamping the entire (re JD's) organization's

philosophy pertaining to developing and evaluating pitchers and then mandating that the organization get religion with it’s defense.

Ryan demanded his pitchers go more innings than they had in the past because he understood that the bullpens in the past had been overtaxed. Ryan implemented a new physical regimen for pitchers that didn’t happen under JD.

Nolan Ryan fired JD’s coaches and brought in his own. He gave the FO much needed credibility and it was Nolan Ryan who talked Michael Young off the bridge when he demanded a trade.

And there is the very tangible evidence of the standings the last two years.

by Aqua on Oct 13, 2010 6:36 PM CDT up reply actions

Let's be clear.

Josey, you are giving credit to the team for having a wonderful year, and JD just happens to be the GM of the team. You do not think that JD influenced one single thing that happened this season. In fact, you think that all good things were influenced by people you suggest were hired by Nolan Ryan, or by programs supposedly instituted by Nolan Ryan.

Stop saying you are giving JD credit, because you just aren’t.

by FuturePants on Oct 14, 2010 9:03 AM CDT up reply actions

Bullshit, Aggie.

JD signed Cobra, Vlad and Oliver and then found a band-aid like Treanor and a shiny coin in late August named Francouer. These were his moves and he deserves credit.

He showed a lot of stones in trading the major league career of Justin Smoak for Lee although Nolan Ryan was on RG the other day and made it sound like he made the final call on the deal. Not sure who to give credit / blame on that trade.

Here’s the deal…

JD was awful from 2006-2008 and damned lucky he wasn’t fired.

In 2009, he fetched coffee and otherwise laid low while Nolan revamped everything wrong with the organization. Funny how all the FO Dumbassery (see Broussard & JJennings) came to an immediate end when Nolan had the steering wheel.

In 2010, with power once again restored, JD rebounded to have a very good year and I’ve given him credit for doing so.

Who really cares if JD needed Nolan Ryan above him to finally become a good GM? We’re here and that’s all that matters.

I just don't buy the bullshit espoused by the LSB Lewinskys

in regards to their favorite son.

This Thing was an absolute mess after the 2007 season and 2008 was the culmination of JD’s incompetence.

JD’s track record from 2006-2008 is exactly why Nolan Ryan was hired in the first place.

So JD needed Nolan above him to finally have a good year? So what? We’re here, so enjoy it.

For a year Ryan observed, evaluated and then made sweeping changes across the board while JD stayed under the radar and twiddled his thumbs.

After turning The Thing around, Ryan tossed the keys back to JD, got in the passenger seat and said “Drive, while I try to buy this sumbitch.”
