Believe Part 2

This season has transcended expectations and transformed the psyche and hearts of legions of Rangers fans across Texas and throughout our country and beyond. At the core of the remarkable journey we have shared together is a ballclub and a community who collectively have consigned the conventional wisdom of the past to the dust bins of history, busting myths and charting a new course previously thought to be unattainable.

Can't pitch successfully in Rangers Ballpark. Wrong.

Can't compete successfully late in the season because the heat will break you down. Wrong.

Fans will lose interest when training camp opens. Wrong.

Fans won't come to Rangers Ballpark after the All Star break because its too hot. Wrong.

Rangers can't win a playoff series. Wrong.

Rangers can't win a playoff game at home. Wrong.

Rangers can't beat the Yankees in the playoffs. Wrong.

Rangers can't get to the World Series. Wrong.

Rangers can't captivate the hearts and emotions of fans new and old deep into the fall. Wrong.

And on and on and on....

I can't even begin to count the memorable moments we have shared this year thanks to a very special group of players with hearts and smiles as big as Texas, who always pull together, stand up for one another, and who have changed the sports landscape here in the Metroplex forever.

But here is a simple reality. Monday will be the last game played in Rangers Ballpark this year. We all owe it to ourselves, our players and each other, to celebrate with passion, enthusiasm and indefatigable belief from lineup cards to the final out, loud and proud.

The defining team of my young life was the 1979, "We are Family" Pittsburgh Pirates. I have often remarked how much this Rangers club reminds me of that team, with a confident but friendly swagger and an abundance of character and personality.

Now these two teams have something else in common. Both fell behind 3-1 in the World Series. Kent Tekulve, the great closer from the '79 Pirates, texted me after tonight's game to pass along this story. Before Game 5, Willie Stargell told his teammates:

"We are playing in front of the whole world. We may not win this thing, but before we go, let's show the world how the Pirates really play baseball".

The Pirates, playing against a team whose colors were black and orange, won Game 5. Then they returned to Baltimore and won Game 6. Then they won Game 7.

I know our players will show everyone how the Rangers play baseball tomorrow. As fans, let's do the same. We have one final opportunity this season to show the world what we have accomplished together and the passion we all hold for our players and our shared dreams.

The World Series is going back to San Francisco. And then there will be one final piece of conventional wisdom to prove wrong....

Believe.

Chuck

I believe

but for now, I am really just focusing on game 5 and making this a series again.

I believe Lee will turn it around and pitch like we expect him to pitch; like the ace of a surprisingly good pitching staff. I believe this offense will hit again, even though that will have to be against the best pitcher in the N.L. the past two seasons. I believe our fans will stand up (literally and figuratively) and show everyone watching that Texas can be a baseball town. I believe this team isn’t interested in an opposing team celebrating on their home turf and forever having to see that in videos on ESPN and CNN and FOX and Yahoo!…

I BELIEVE IN THE 2010 TEXAS RANGERS.

IT’S TIME!

This has been the greatest season in rangers history

If you had told me in spring training that this team would go from bankruptcy to the world series I never would have believed you.

If they can do that, anything can happen. This is the season of belief and triumph.

I woke up this morning pretty bummed.

As soon as I came to, I remembered what had happened last night. It was like a kick to the gut. Then I remembered that I have tickets for the game tonight. A sense of dread came over me. “I don’t want to watch the Giants celebrate on our field. I don’t think I could bare it. Maybe I just won’t go.”

Then I remembered that my Dad, the man who introduced me to Rangers baseball; the man who is responsible for turning me into a lifelong diehard, has flown in from Tokyo just to go to THIS game with me. I certainly can’t bail on that.

And after reading this, I certainly can’t bail on the Rangers. To be honest, I feel a little ashamed for the way I felt this morning. This is the best Ranger team anyone has ever seen. Hell, it’s November 1st and they’re still playing baseball in Arlington. INCREDIBLE!!!!

With the way this season has gone, being down 3-1 in the World Series is only fitting. This is the way it has to happen.

Thanks for this, Chuck. You’ve re-inspired me. It’s Time!

Sellouts

I will say i was a bit disappointed in the sellouts we had in the crowd last night. Saturday, i was surrounded by the season ticket holders who had those seats. Everyone was into the game from pregame to post game. Sunday, I was surrounded by people who had bought the tickets from the season ticket holders, and I was surrounded by people who were there for the spectacle. Very disappointing. I will be there again tonight. And hope to see Saturday’s crowd (and result).

We can do this. The players, the front office, and the fans We can do this. I know they hear us. Let’s be the 10th man tonight.

We needed these words Mr. Greenberg

We need to remember that this isn’t all done. There’s a piece on my personal blog about how it is inevitable that Mark Cuban and Jim Crane would own this team, but I still had my hopes. In the final inning in the courtroom, you hit the Grand Slam. It’s time now for the players to return the favor.

We will be proud of our Rangers. We will wave our towels at the ballpark (and heck, even at home). We will stand true to our men on the field today while honoring the ones that have put us here in the past and looking toward the health of the future of the franchise. This team is one that everybody outside of Texas shunned. We were the black sheep of baseball, the team that could, but shouldn’t. One of my favorite lines from my favorite baseball movie (Major League) goes… “Let’s give them all a big ’ole shitburger to eat.” I think the Rangers have done just that to ESPN sheep as well as to all the sportswriters in the nation. History doesn’t throw a pitch or swing a bit. That applies here as well, and it’s one of the quotes that I use now in my everyday talk. We can do this, and we will do this.

And I’ve decided instead of Rick Perry or Bill White, I’m just writing in Chuck Greenberg. If he can do this with the Rangers, he just might save the whole state…

From Bengie Molina's post season blog:
I’ll say this, too – there’s nothing like playing here in this park with these amazing fans. The place was so loud it felt sometimes like it was vibrating. No matter how beat up and tired you might feel after 170-something games, you feel like it’s the first game of the season when you look up into the stands and see all the red and blue and the twirling towels and hear the roar. I hope the fans understand how much energy they give us.

I know we helped push them. Sometimes, stiil not enough when the pitcher is mixing pitches/speeds so well. I’ll try to recap my thoughts/feelings later, but chew on this: There were folks (reportedly) trying to start the wave Sunday night… I just hope we’ve grownup as a baseball fan base, and next year, continue to cheer the right way.
