Hurley... seems like I've heard that name before somewhere...

This is outstanding news.

He was a good, not great prospect coming up, people just have a bad taste over KoK’s nonstop pummeling of him, and a 5+ ERA in his first 5 MLB starts.

Reports are that he’s throwing between 90 and 93 mph with his fastball and that he’s feeling good.

This, to me, is the feel-good story of this offseason. It's better than Feliz named AL ROY.

It would be amazing if he was a legitimate mid-season consideration for a bullpen arm.

his FIP that year was 5.93

vs ERA of 5.47

first 5 MLB starts.

I guess it should be 2.93 & 2.47 like all rookies in their first 5 MLB starts…oh, wait.

He might not have as many IP as Hunter next year...

but I am going to say that Hurely will have better numbers than Hunter.

1-2 inning BP guy by July maybe?

I think he could air it out a bit more and go 94-95 in that situation, nice.

Maybe open the season in AAA...

and take over Nippert’s role as the long reliever and get spot starts when needed.

Hurley needs to be able to trust his arm/stuff after the injuries.

I think this AFL stint is huge for him becasue he seems to have found his control after struggling with it in his first couple of starts.

i seriously doubt that.

seriously .

I would have to think he is in the mix

Maybe he takes over Holland’s “#7 starter \ bullpen long man” role, but you have to think they’ll look long and hard at him this spring.

Bullpen.

He’s Thomas Diamond 2.0. Don’t see him moving in front of guys like Kirkman, Dutch and likely Scheppers in the starters pecking order.

We shouldn't get out hopes up too high

He looks like a solid bullpen candidate, but it’s still pretty early. Very encouraging, though.

When you're drowning, you don't say 'I would be incredibly pleased if someone would have the foresight to notice me drowning and come and help me,' you just scream.

I'm not terribly excited about him.

He seems pretty low ceiling, all things considered.
Nothing wrong with a little depth, though.

overrated on one week of performance

against minor leaguers. calm down people.

A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.

When a once good prospect...

…becomes a prospect again, that’s something to be excited about it. Is it not?

by Bats and Balls on Nov 18, 2010 9:50 AM CST up reply actions

do a search for "hurley" and "knockoutking" on LSB

he never was THAT good fo a prospect.

and to top that off there are rarely any “good” pitching prospects in the AFL due to the “good” guys htiting their maximum for the year.
