Happy birthday, Randy Velarde

Happy birthday to Randy Velarde, who turns 48 today.

Velarde has a small but meaningful role in the Rangers history...coming into the 2001 season, having signed Alex Rodriguez and expecting to contend for the A.L. West title, the Rangers needed a second baseman.  They dealt for Velarde from the Oakland A's, acquiring him in exchange for minor league pitchers Ryan Cullen and Aaron Harang.

Velarde played well for the Rangers, but the team was terrible, and Velarde was dealt near the trade deadline to the New York Yankees for minor league pitchers Randy Flores and Rosman Garcia.

Flores and Garcia did little.  Harang, of course, went on to be one of the better starting pitchers of the Aughts.

No Hart, no Hart, the Rangers have no Hart!

Guess again.

It was a Melvin move, I do believe.

Flores wasn't bad for the Cardinals during his tenure there.

correct

Especially during the 2006 postseason. What a coincidence that as soon as Isringhausen got hurt, the entire STL bullpen was money.

"I also have to say that I was pretty obviously wrong about C.J. Wilson. As recently as the All Star Break, I proclaimed the decision to move him the rotation a failure. That was epicfail of a, well, epic nature" - AJM

OT: Brandon Boggs signs with Brewers

Per Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal

Good luck, Brandon! You were the man for that first month of your MLB career.

I still like Boggs.

Some guys you just get attached to as prospects. Sadly I still sorta wish we had Smoak (yes I know Cliff was awesome, but Smoak was awesome too)

Month?

Try week and a half. He hit 385/419/641 in his first 11 games (10 starts).

Then he went 201/321/361 the rest of the year playing on a fairly consistent basis

Probably old news, but Leach is suing ESPN and the PR firm representing Craig James

Lawyers gonna lawyer

Fuck Craig James.

Fight to the end, now we ascend, together we will take them down.

As he should...

Craig James slandered him, without anything ever being proven.

Ya I still don't get why ESPN thought it was a good idea to let him air his side of the story.

Seemed like conflict of interest and a big liability and I don’t have much of an idea about that sort of stuff.

They are both jerkoffs

James

is a dick. It wasn’t Leach’s fault that Craig’s son was a talentless ass-clown

Adam Harang was not one of the best pitchers of the aughts

he’s not even one of the best ones the rangers gave away or could of had.

He said BETTER, that is not best.

Better simply states he ws a good starter, who was reliable and serviceable.
