ESPN is reporting that Rangers' President Nolan Ryan has reached out to fellow Texan Andy Pettitte in an apparent attempt to bring him to the Rangers' for 2011. Even though Pettitte is 38-years old , he was clearly the Yankees' 2nd-best starter in 2010, has a world of playoff experience and could mentor a young pitching staff and be a positive figure in a locker room. He could also be a fallback option for a rotation anchor in case the Cliff Lee talks have privately moved out of the Rangers' comfort zone.
Or......this is just a Jon-Gruden-esque smokescreen and Pettitte could be trying to create some leverage for negotiations with the Yankees or whatever team might be interested, as his intentions of coming back and playing in 2011 haven't been made clear to date.
True or fallacy....take it for whatever you want. But if it had some validity, would you welcome Andy Pettitte in Ranger red, white, and blue in 2011? If so, what type of deal would you be willing to put forth?
