"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. Today, [November 1], a [Monday] of rain and broken branches and leaf-clogged drains and slick streets, it stopped, and summer was gone."

A freind...
…sends this to me every year. Thought you might enjoy it too.

This is very perplexing since this is my schtick too
I sent this exact same thing to a friend with the same changes. And I posted a good portion of it in the 11/3 morning thread. Odd.
"You promised me, Eckstein, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I noticed that during the most trying periods of my life, there have only been one set of prints in the sand. Why, when I have needed you most, have you not been there for me?" David Eckstein replied, "Because my little legs had gotten tired, and you were carrying me." And I looked down and saw that I was still carrying David Eckstein.
Then he grounded out weakly to second.
Don't know about your post ,but
I don’t see it as odd. I’m sure there are many who have read this quote and found it strikingly poignant. I think this is the third or fourth year he has sent this to me. He and I go to opening day every year with two other friends. If you are thinking I copied your post, I certainly have no reason for doing so. I do not post much, but do read the links and I don’t often read GDT or daily threads if that is where you posted it. I do, however, think it is good enough to survive being posted twice.

The one who
sends it to my friend is a professor somewhere. Last name Williams. Maybe it’s a small world.

I'm not implying anything
When Giamatti died I believe this was on the back of his baseball card so plenty of people have seen. it. What I found odd was your changing of the dates is exactly what I did this year when I sent it to a friend (didn’t change the dates in my LSB post). Just odd.

I didn't change the dates.
I just copied/pasted from an email. Whoever Mr Williams is, he changed the dates.
