Carlos Quentin for DH?

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/12/white-sox-shopping-carlos-quentin.html

Star-divide

Color me interested. This is a guy that I have always been intrigued by, and who I think would be a good fit on this team. He doesn't exactly mash lefties, his stats verses lefties and righties are pretty similar, actually. But if competence is what you're looking for from the DH position for years to come, then Carlos Quentin can provide that, I think. He can also spot start if the outfield if absolutely necessary.

What do you guys think of Carlos Quentin? Are you interested? I don't know if he would settle for DHing almost every night. Are any of you familiar with his stance on DHing?

I don't think it's a coincidence that this rumor has just now popped up, right after the Carl Crawford signing. I think the Rangers are interested.

Apparently

they want relief help. Do we dangle Ogando out there?

No.

Offer someone else. I’d rather give up O’day (!!) than Ogando.

Gagreed.

But Quentin does interest me.

2Frank for Quentin might interest my penis a bit, but I’d need more info on 2Frank’s recovery as well as whatever Quentin’s current injury is (he’s always got an injury of some sort, yah?).

The White Sox are looking to shed salary

Kenny Williams basically said they were broke at the Konerko press conference so a guy like Quentin is probably a goner right now. Unless they can get someone to take Peavy off their hands they may lose Beurhle next winter also

Brrrlee

is getting old anyway.

Yah, and that Peavy trade sure is looking butt-tastic thought, ain't it?

Quentin's collective WAR over the last two years is -.4

And hes going into his 2nd arb year, he won’t be that cheap monetarily. He might be in what you give up player wise, but maybe not.

Even if he doesn’t mind DHing, its all he should be allowed to do. I’d rather get someone that can back up 1b, though those options are dwindling.

If we are going strict DH, I dont think hes good enough to warrant giving up a piece for rather than just signing one of the FAs for one year.

Also, keep in mind that Chicago is prorbably a better hitters park for a righty fly ball hitter than Arlington so its not like you can expect that bump.

Derrek Lee.

My current favorite option

A contender should have a better backup to Moreland than CD, and even if Moreland manages to stick it would at least give some options if the DH spot was needed for Hammy more often.

Only a year removed from a great offensive year, and was pretty good in the 2nd half after a horrid first half that may be explained by a thumb injury.

Some downsides of course… coming off thumb surgery, inconsistent since his monster season, may get too many years in this environment.

D.Lee has even splits.

CD is not a good option, he’s as lost as can be at the plate. Scouts say Davis looks done.

David Murphy

Does David Murphy give us more or less at DH than Vlad? Would also left Hambone DH 40+ games as well if Julio roams center.

He can't play 1B that is the issue.

They want somebody to platoon with Moreland.

Why?

Moreland is not bad, Face won’t move from 3B (heh) and if they asked him he’d probably throw another fit.

Do we really need to go after a big-name guy to fill the DH spot

when we’re just going to rotate guys through the spot depending on matchup? Why not get someone like Thames as mentioned previously who’d come cheap and who’d maximize flexibility in that he can platoon at 1B AND COF whereas someone like Magglio or Lee can only do one or the other?

Yeah, it's me

The Nemo thing didn’t seem to be much of a hit (nobody got my ever-so-clever Nightwish/Homer reference) so I got SBN to change the name on my original account.
