Rangers sign Seth "Aqua" McClung
The Texas Rangers have reportedly signed Seth McClung to a split contract, which I believe means he's on a major league deal, but would get a different amount depending on whether he's in the majors or the minors.
Once upon a time, McClung was a BA top 100 prospect (#98 prior to the 2003 season), but he never really did much with the Rays, who drafted him in the 5th round of the 1998 draft, and was dealt to the Brewers in 2007 for Grant Balfour.
McClung appears to have not played in 2010, and would seem to be a long shot to make the Rangers 25 man roster.
I am coming to grips with the fact that the 2011 Rangers will basically be the same as the early July, 2010, Rangers, except with Yorvit Torrealba instead of Bengie Molina behind the plate.

Re: Next year's Rangers
I still think there’s about a 30% chance we wind up with Adrian Beltre. This either means MY to DH or…
There’s a 15% chance we deal Mike Young, in which case Vlad is likely retained.
There’s probably a 40% chance we sign Brandon Webb and a 20% chance we get a substantial contribution from him.
If not, we’ll bring in a different darkhorse like Wang or trade for a #4 like Blanton. I don’t expect a big trade for a pitcher as the asking price doesn’t match the benefit.

Personally,
I think you can kiss Beltre goodbye once the FO announces the now inevitable Vlad signing.

Maybe Cruz can stay healthy...
He’s allowed one short trip to the DL
Cruz, also, has to hit .320 again
at this point the health factor between Kinsler, Hamilton and Cruz worries me.

Their health
and possible regression issues, are amongst the scariest factors on the team. Well, that and we replace Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, and Chicago with Philadelphia, Atlanta, and New York.

at this point
if we dont add a major piece i feel like we may all be in for a huge disappointment.
The anticlutch.
2010 Rangers vs 2011
The 2010 Rangers were a few games shy of winning it all. I’m not going to be terribly disappointed if they don’t make a splash now…. just make sure u trade for that #1 before the trade deadline.
well
the red sox got hella better.
are the yankers or the rays gonna get the wild card?
has oakland done enough. remember, if you don’t improve you get worse
Losing Beltre and V-Mart
and gaining Crawford and A-Gon doesn’t seem like that much of a net gain.
They will be probably better because their injury situation can’t get worse than it was last year, though.
Exactly, if the BoSox romp next year
It’ll be because they stayed healthy, but everyone will talk about the signings.
Although, Jenks was a good signing. But, between him and Papel, they have about the douchiest bullpen ever made.
ANOTHER MIKE

I think it is obvious...
that the Rangers have discovered a way to harvest Lee’s pitching skills without his knowledge and will now be injecting those skills into mediocre pitchers. This way, if the experiment fails nobody will know the difference but if it is successful, everyone will believe that these pitchers have discovered a way to live up to or vastly exceed whatever potential that they had.
Greinke is requesting a trade
Seth Mcclung for Greinke. Who says no first?
if Greinke is in fact demanding a trade
you would think KC would have to lower their demands.

it forces their hand a little, doesn't it?
i don’t think that the asking price plummets, but I think its a more reasonable trade offer comes out
Rangers FTW

It takes away their option to wait until mid-year…but we’re still competing with like 10 other teams who would love to have him and are willing to trade
10 teams?
I’ve mainly heard the Rangers and Toronto as the main suitors

humor-free explanation
I have no idea why the Rangers were interested in McClung (yup, he’s never going to stop walking the ballpark; he’s been around since ’99, no change) but he was probably interested in them due to Mike Maddux, who coached him in Milwaukee.
No, he didn’t play in 2010. The Marlins released him at the end of spring training and for whatever reason he didn’t catch on with another team. He’s currently engaged in coaching an absolutely dismal high school basketball team.
I look forward to seeing him when Round Rock visits Iowa….
At least McClung seems...
mature and remorseful about his shittiness.

OT:
If any of you folks that aren’t in the Rangers blackout area have every wanted to get MLB.tv for a season, the premium version is currently on sale for the 2011 season for $99.95 right now. That’s usually the price for the season for the regular version (no ability to rewind live or listen to the road feeds) and $20 cheaper that last season’s premium price.

I remember the Rangers traded my RTTS player on MLB 08
to the Brewers for McClung while I was at AAA. I showed them by hitting .400 over my first three seasons in the bigs, winning the triple crown in my third year.
In my absence, the Rangers won two more WS to add to the one they won when I was in AA…thanks to Carlos Silva, groundball god (ERAs of about 3 despite K’ing about 70 over 200 innings), “staff ace” Brandon McCarthy, “everyday Hank Blalock” winning batting titles and OBP machine Ian Kinsler.
Remember to retire Fin's number, Mark.
