Rangers sign Endy Chavez, Brian Barden to minor league deals

Anthony Andro tweets that Endy Chavez, Seth McClung, and Brian Barden have all been signed by the Rangers and have invites to the major league camp.

The news that McClung had signed with the Rangers was broken by Jerry Crasnick yesterday, and with him reporting it was a split contract, I assumed it was a major league deal.  Andro's tweet, though, seems to indicate it is a minor league deal.

Crasnick said earlier today that McClung will earn $700,000 from the Rangers if he makes the team, with another $700,000 possible in incentives based on starts.

Chavez, meanwhile, will presumably have a chance to fill the role he was expected to fill in 2010 -- minor league insurance for Julio Borbon, and a potential fifth outfielder.  The Rangers really like Craig Gentry, and I would think that Gentry would be ahead of Chavez in the pecking order, but if Borbon struggles (or is dealt), you could see Chavez in Texas.

Barden, I suspect, is simply a guy added for minor league infield depth.
