Ranger: Cliff Lee leaning toward Texas, but 'it's a matter of the money'
If it's TRULY about the "money" signing with Texas will give him the most when you account for distance from home, taxes, etc.

what happens
if the rangers offer 120/4 (which they wont) and yankees offer 120/6? rangers offer more money, he would be a ranger for 4 more years if it truly is about the money. i think if the rangers are within 5-10 mill of the yankees, he stays in the lone star state
if i burst out in a cheer when people are praying it's ok, GOD is a ranger fan too!
I read somewhere.....
that when ALL the financial considerations are included (state income tax, the MLB luxury tax, etc., etc.) that a Ranger offer of $22M per means Lee’s actual effect on the Yankees payroll would be $32.5M per…….obviously thats the TOTAL effect and Lee wouldn’t get all that cash, but it still whacks the Yanks pretty good if the Rangers go to say…..5/$110M…..it would effectively cost the Yankees 5/$162+M….
Not sure either will go 6 years and I can’t really see the Ranger’s going past $120M-$125M (which would drive the Yanks to maybe, $180M-$185M, total???)…..guess we’ll know maybe sometime in the next week or so.
damn...are you serious? I knew there was a bump between the two, but not that bigga one.

That luxury tax is serious stuff
it’s something like 35-40%.
When you're drowning, you don't say 'I would be incredibly pleased if someone would have the foresight to notice me drowning and come and help me,' you just scream.
But Cliff doesn't see it
so it isn’t like he cares. As long as the Yankees have the revenue disparity over the Rangers, they can afford paying it.

agree
the luxury tax matters some to the Yankees, but not at all to Lee or any other player. I don’t think it will hinder the Yankees in making their offer. Even they have their limits, but I’ll be surprised if those limits don’t allow them to outbid TX for Lee.

He'll be back
Give him the 6th year, and he’ll be back. Read all the quotes since the World Series ended. It’s not hard to see where his heart is.
