Jeter and Yanks to agree

3 years, up to 51 million with an unspecified option year.

The Yankees and Derek Jeter will finalize a three-year deal today after hammering out the final details on a contract that will pay the captain between $15 million and $17 million a year, according to a person briefed on the situation.

I really had hoped this would drag out, and be a distraction from the Lee deal.  I really was hoping that Rivera and Jeter would be a multi month circus.

I cared about it

because I wanted it to stretch out as long as possible, and hopefully cause a little lockerroom chaos on the Yanks.

This

I guess Jeets made or fielded a few calls from other teams and found out he wasn’t worth quite as much as he thought…..

That's my guess as well.

Agent calls a few GMs, and wants more than 3/$15, and those GMs probably hung up the phone while laughing.

so, he gets a pay cut while Arod gets a raise.

"Jeter and Yanks to agree"

I am shocked and appalled, who could have possibly seen this coming?

I thought for sure Cincy was about to top their offer

Yes! I won a bet with a co-worker.

Me: Jeter will get 3/56
Co-worker: Jeter will get 2/40 and like it.

At this point in his career...

he’s probably only worth 3/15.

Still, I was hoping to see more shit hit the fan between the two sides before he agreed.

I was hoping it would drag out til spring training and cause a lot of bad blood.

I hate this.

I wanted either much longer negotiations or an awful contract. This is reasonable and done way sooner than I wanted.

I like the early end

Now Lee knows who would be playing defense behind him for the next 3 years. It may be a very small factor in his decision

by bigsteve on Dec 4, 2010 6:58 PM CST up reply actions

It'd be great if JD can ensure Lee

that Face will only be at third for one more year or less. The ideal way would be to sign Beltre and DH Face

this would be ideal

Berkman just signed with STL.

1 year, 8 million.

Does he even have any leg left for the OF?

Wow.....odd choice

So they play Rasmus, Holliday, Berkman in the OF.

by bigsteve on Dec 4, 2010 6:59 PM CST up reply actions

I wouldn't have given Berkman half that...

good luck playing him in the outfield St. Louis.

I don't get the Jeter half of that assertion

It’s bandied about a lot around here, but nobody ever provides any anecdotes or evidence.

What has Jeter done that is so douchey?

Man you guys are looking at it the wrong way... IF he thinks Jeter is good at SS because of his GG's.

Going by that logic… Well Face won a fucking GG at SS and is his 3B now, with the second coming maning SS.

I honestly think he’s using the Yankees to run up the price on the Rangers, not the other way around…. Seriously.

Awesome comments section

•Hey finally we can stop reading comments on how Jeter is so greedy!!! This guy is worth every penny the Yankees signed him for. He plays every day and is the heart and soul of this team. By this time next year he should have 5 Rings!!!!!
