Toronto and Greinke, bring on the Winter Meetings
This has been a really interesting pre-winter meetings. The Jeter bashing, Lee speculation, Dunn, Werth, Jorge de la Rosa, Gonzalez trade, Victor Martinez, Benoit, Beltre to the A's or not....
But, now, the Jays have traded Shaun Marcum, bringing back a well regarded prospect in Brett Lawrie. That means they can put two top-50 prospects, Lawrie and Drabek, on the table for Greinke with a third very nice prospect as well in one of Zach Stewart, Carlos Perez, or JP Arencibia.
It seems more and more likely that Holland and Perez will have to be in the deal for Greinke, and Lee will get a 6th year for the Rangers, if they are going to become Rangers. This is like being on a slow-drip of World Series adrenaline.
Edit: Josh Willingham for Rangers DH!
Edit: Plus Toronto could have upto 8 1st and supplemental 1st round picks. I don't think they'll be shy about selling the farm for Greinke.

imagine if we get Lee and move Feliz to the Rotation
as Cleveland would say, “that’s just nasty…”

Except when Feliz constatly can't go past the 5th inning and has a ERA north of 5

Feliz is better than that
I don’t see why he’d have any problem getting past 5. and who cares if he struggles for a little bit. That’s natural. We had Harden and Feldman stinking up the joint last year. Giving Feliz the shot to grow in a TORP is worth it
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.
Feliz had trouble getting through 5 while a starter in the minors
At both A ball and AA he averaged less than 5 innings a start. Granted he was on innings/pitch limits but he hasn’t started in over a year now so expecting him to go deep in games seems crazy to me.
And unless his secondaries take a giant leap forward I don’t expect him to be successful at all. ML hitters can hit fastballs even ones like Feliz’s. Having to face them multiple times a game make them easier to hit than in one inning bursts. If he can’t throw his curve or change for strikes guys will sit fastball and make him throw pitches. Their mindset early in the game will be more driving up the pitch count than anything. if his command drops even the slightest we will see a lot of 20-25 pitch innings or more.
We put Feliz as a starter next year and my expectations drop way down. if he was able to break 5 IP/start with a ERA under 5.25 I would be ecstatic. But I don’t think he would be able to do that and I hate saying that because I love Neffy but I don’t see him as a starter and i’ve said so from day one
A Brewer's take on Lawrie
The star of the minor leagues, Lawrie—like Weeks was—has been viewed as a major defensive liability at second base, with many people thinking that he would need to be moved to a different position, probably a corner outfield spot. While Lawrie is more valuable as a second baseman, his bat is so good that his trade value wouldn’t exactly be too damaged if he needed a move to a different defensive position. Lawrie played in AA all of last year in the minors and will likely play much of the 2011 season in Nashville. He, of course, still has all six of his team controlled years left and, as a top prospect, would be an enormous piece in any deal, were Doug Melvin inclined to trade him.
On his bat: Lawrie hit for a line of .285/.346/.449 last year—good for a wOBA of .361—with eight homeruns and 63 RBI, scoring 90 runs. He had a nearly identical OPS in A ball in 2009 before struggling in a brief tryout in AA. He also showed last year that he wasn’t afraid to try to steal bases, nabbing 30 in 46 tries. As he matures, his power is going to skyrocket—I’ve heard that he has definite 40 home run potential—and he could become one of the premier hitting second basemen in the league. He probably has the highest ceiling of any position player in the Brewers system.
So would Toronto flip Lawrie along with Drabek or would they go with Snider and move Lawrie to a COF spot?
40 home run potential
that’s laughable. I haven’t heard that from anyone credible.

Exactly what I was thinking...
Lawrie obviously has good offensive potential, but a HUGE part of his value is still tied up in projection…
i'm starting to think that way
if it means some that KC would be pissed if they were offered Perez, Scheppers, & Profar

i'm wondering if we get lee
if we should use our prospects on trying to get Upton instead of Grienke.

The cost would be much higher
When you're drowning, you don't say 'I would be incredibly pleased if someone would have the foresight to notice me drowning and come and help me,' you just scream.

I had a dream last night the winter meetings got blown up by terrorists just as Cliff Lee was about to sign
Premonition?

I was trying to stop them, until I realized the winter meetings where at Disney World.
I figured the loss of MLB’s front offices where mitigated by the destruction of the baseball media and a stupid theme park.

This is a great dream.
I don’t see Disney World on the list as one of the critical infrastructure sites in the latest Wikileaks.
Godspeed Mike Olt.
the Jays are going all in for Greinke, huh
You’re right, he’s the missing link in Toronto’s AL East title run
Ridiculous
Not anymore
According to Buster Olney of ESPN.com, the Blue Jays will not make a trade for Zack Greinke at the Royals’ current asking price.
Olney suspects that the Royals may gradually lower that price, especially once Cliff Lee signs and Greinke becomes the best pitcher available.

that'd be awfully sexy
I’d even throw in Erlin or Ross with that package. A non-Holland/Perez involvement would be quite bonerific.
