I don't trust any list without Joaquin Arias, our utility infielder of the future, on it

This is the way to go. Three of the top 17, four of the top 42. Excellent.

The 40 Trumps All!!!
Oh, God... I had a roommate who was obsessed with Bone Thugs. Like crazy obsessed.
Like, if you looked at any of his notebooks, they’d be full of doodles he did in class of Bone Thugs.
That wasn’t as bad as my other roommate who was obsessed with the The Rock, though.
Long story short: Don’t ever live with anyone, ever.
Most of ‘em suck, and the ones who don’t are psychos.

I guess I was the only one who read that post and thought of Cream's "Crossroads" and then tried to figure out what those lyrics had to to with the Cream song
Clearly I’m not a Bone Thugs aficionado.

Feliz can make a case for having one of the most devastating changeups and fastballs. Martin Perez (Rangers) flashes fastball, curveballs and changeups all worthy of 70 grades at times.

2009 BA Top 100 Graduation
I love seeing this list. This is the second consecutive year that we’ve had 4 players listed in the top 42. We graduated 3 players from last year’s list (Holland 31, Andrus 37, Teagarden 73) with only two carryovers (Feliz, 10, Smoak 23). I see that graduation rate as a great sign. Sign of very good things to come.
I was wondering if it was ever going to come out.
We could possibly have only 1 prospect in the Top 100 next year (Perez). But still, 4 players in the top half is very nice, with 3 in the top 20 is quite impressive.

Here's hoping we see Moreland and Profar take big steps forward
then we’ll have a new big three for next year

Font will hopefully break into the top 100 next year
Main, if he bounces back will get consideration
We have 4 1st round draft picks
We may not have the top 50 talent like we have this year but we should still have several on the top 100 list

This comment:
I don’t agree with Matusz over Feliz. No GM in their right mind would trade Feliz for Matusz. Just look at what both did in their brief taste in The Show last year. This minor concern of whether Feliz will end up in the bullpen is not reason enough to penalize his ranking.
Posted by John D | February 23, 2010 at 12:23 pm
It’s not that uncommon, right? “The Show” bit, that is.
Also, no Eric Hosmer! Holy cow. Remember all the Hosmer’s potential >> Smoak’s potential talk?

Oh I know
Its just all the love and hype he was getting last year was way way too much and I think alot of people way overhyped him. Now seeing them backtrack a little makes me smile. Not saying he won’t or can’t get back to being a top prospect but it goes to show we may need to temper our enthusiasm a little on these kids.
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
That's fine, but
it’s because he blew out his elbow. Doesn’t really mean they’ve backtracked.

When you say blew out how serious are you talking
I didn’t think it was a serious injury
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
Yeah
“blow out” is the wrong term. But the injury is why he didn’t pitch all year and is what led directly to him being dropped.
by Brett Perryman on Feb 23, 2010 8:05 PM CST up reply actions
Does we=you?
There is nothing wrong with getting excited about a young prospect, regardless of the results-to-hype ratio. The fact that the majority of them flameout before they reach their ceiling doesn’t change the reality that their raw tools warranted the initial hype to begin with.
Several scouts that saw Ynoa said that he was the best 16 year-old Latin American pitcher they had ever seen. The initial hype was a result of people who are paid to evaluate talent telling their team to throw tons of money at this kid because they had never seen a 16 year-old with the combination of size, pitchability, and stuff before. Ynoa wasn’t a pitcher with a fringe-average ceiling that got overhyped and then failed to meet those expectations. This was a very special kid who simply got hurt and lost some developmental time. It’s not really that complicated.
No word on whether his lack of education influenced his ability to repeat his signature, though. I’ll ask around for you.
by jparks77 on Feb 23, 2010 6:34 PM CST up reply actions 13 recs
Look im not saying the kid doesn't have talent
But other than the injury what has changed between last year to this year? Jarrod Parker is not going to pitch in 2010 because hes undergoing TJ surgery yet he stayed on the list. Last year Ynoa was this amazing talent who had never pitched against real competition and scouts and evaluators raved about his ceiling. Did that ceiling change because of his injury this season? I ask because I thought it wasn’t a serious elbow injury. If he “blew it out” like Z says above I retract because that obviously is a major injury.
All I am saying is last year he shouldn’t have been ranked where he was thats all. Perhaps this year they are overcompensating by dropping him too far I don’t know.
If Profar goes out this year and has an injury and misses all season will that drop him from top 10 into the 20+ range? If lack of experience against pro competition didn’t matter last year why should it matter after one season when he is still younger than 98% of other pro players?
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
The elbow tendonitis (or whatever it was) was a set-back, no question
But if evaluators and team officials believe the injury to be minor, there is no reason to assume his ceiling won’t remain as high as it was pre-injury. If that is indeed the case, he should remain on prospect lists because his combination of raw stuff and age can’t be overlooked. Of course, prospect lists are snapshots of the moment and subjective. The fact that BA didn’t include him in their top 100 this season doesn’t mean he was overhyped last season. Just because Jarrod Parker suffered an injury and remained on the list doesn’t mean Ynoa was overhyped last season.
Yah, I think the fact that two teams (at least) were willing to give him 4mm+ at the age of 16 is more significant than where BA ranked him after a year lost to injury problems.
But then again this is Big Steve, so…

Hey Jason
Have you seen Arias throw in person lately, or heard anything from a scout/scouts? I am wondering about his arm, since he seems a logical choice as the UIF.

But I haven’t seen or heard anything about his arm yet. Jason Cole is planning on arriving this Thursday, so hopefully he can post an update when he gets a chance to see Arias in action.
I'll be there 25-29
Email me if you will still be in town.

I can’t say that I blame him for making that swipe.

Matusz for Feliz
I imagine 25 or so GMs, possibly including Jon Daniels, would make that trade.
Matusz is going to be a very very good starting pitcher for a very long time. Don’t underestimate the guy.
