The Top 2000 Prospects in Baseball
Weird list. 61 Rangers (I think) make the cut. Max Ramirez is the 5th-ranked Ranger. Undrafted Brock Piper (who I had never heard of, but who is in the Ranger system) checks in at #1896.

Does Brock Piper know he's a Ranger?

Yeah.
In his 2009 list, he was 28th. After dominating in the Majors for a few months, he’s moved all the way up to 23rd this year. He’ll probably end up being a bust.

And in November, he had Feliz above Smoak in the Rangers Top 40

Piper
He pitched a little bit in rookie league last year. Texas cut him about a month ago. So the 1,896th best prospect in baseball is a free agent!

My list would be
really close to this one, although I would flip-flop Orr and Murton at spots 1987 and 1988.

I'd start making up names at the end and see if anyone noticed.
the preceding post was a great success.
Well done

I saw a version of this joke
in every single link to it on other blogs. I guess that shows how pervasive that type of post is in threads about prospect lists.

Kind of related
A friend of mine from Boston claimed that the Red Sox’s farm was ranked #1, with the Rangers #2 behind it. I know they aren’t #1 on ESPN, SI, BP or BA’s lists, but beyond that, I can’t generally see where they fall because you have to subscribe or be an insider.
I know they are #11 per BP, and not top 5 on BA’s lists. So, where generally are they falling?
oh, I hope I make it...

If you play baseball...
…and can run around the bases without falling down your chances are pretty good.
I shouldn't pile on
but I think the fact that he has multiple doubles is telling about trying to make a top 2000 prospect list.

You think
Kyle Hoppy’s mom takes this list to her Tuesday night bridge group next week to brag to all the women whose sons are doctors?
Purgatory's kind of like the in-betweeny one. You weren't really shit, but you weren't all that great either. Like Tottenham.
Whaaaaaaaaaaa

If this guy’s goal was to get visitors, it worked. I’ve seen this list linked all over the baseball interwebs.

Okay, I probably shouldn't admit this...

I’m a sucker for Motown, but still I think he holds his own quite well.

406. Jonathan Villar, SS, STL
1409. Jonathan Villar, SS, PHI
I’m not aware of a Cards version. Maybe he’s a recent signee that I haven’t heard of, but if so I’d be curious how he’s a thousand spots better than the Phillies one, who is a pretty decent prospect.

Oh good. I was worried about the lack of resources for that 200 round draft I’ve got coming up.

In fairness
I have a draft Sunday in an OOTP league where we are picking guys who were neither picked in respective amateur drafts, picked in previous versions of this supplemental draft, nor bought as international FAs. Almost all of the guys on this list are on rosters, 90-95% I would guess. If it were a really good list, it would be an interesting reference.
