Hey, his contract was up.

Who thinks T.O would’ve re-signed with the Bills anyway?

The Panthers should sign him.

He seems like a perfect fit for them.

If you held a gun to my head and made me pick T.O. or Roy Williams

I would go with T.O. 100 times out of 100. Yeah he’s a crybaby, but he’s good. Roy is a crybaby and he sucks. But you’re right, in reality the only answer is neither. They’re both bad for the team. T.O. because of all the problems he causes, and Roy because he’s a terrible football player.

Ready for some baseball.

by TXHC on Feb 28, 2010 12:13 AM CST up reply actions

Totally agree.

Roy is a shame too. He is physically talented beyond belief. And he really is a good person. He just doesn’t raise his level to the NFL standard. It sucks because there is that amazing player in him. He just doens’t work hard enough or really care enough to bring it out. If there was an AAAA player equivalent in football, Roy would be that.

Martellus Bennett is on the same career path.

Minus the Pro Bowl appearance.

He needs to be dealt, fucking Cincinatti offered us a 2nd Rounder for the sack of shit and we declined. Maybe we can get a 3rd rounder…

He’s a good blocker, but so is John Phillips. I’d rather have Phillips.

Marty B

he wasn’t really good in College.

"Clearly, I've been wrong. VY is awesome." - AJM

by Longhorn on Feb 28, 2010 3:14 AM CST up reply actions

He was as good as he could be playing under a brain dead coach

He didnt get near as much experience in the passing game as he should have. He was a hell of a run blocker throughout college, probably the best blocker on the Aggie line.

If you don’t think he was really good in college, you didn’t watch the games.

If you're relying solely on stats to judge a tight end you're missing half the game

Tight end blocking is extremely important, but not registered in a TE’s stats.

As for the receiving, Marty B was the leading receiver in the A&M offense. Admittedly, that wasn’t saying much in those days, but he did all he could given the offensive handcuffs.

I think Marty B. gets a bad rap because

he’s a huge jokester. I’ve seen plenty of things about him not taking things seriously and playing around too much during practice, meetings. I’ve always heard he was a really good talent, he just has the peter pan syndrome and is enjoying himself more than working hard.

Again, I'm not sure if it's really lazy.

I’m not his biggest fan at all, but I really think he’s just enjoying himself more than working. That makes his play suffer since these are the best of the best playing. He could get away with jacking around in college and still dominating/play well.

I don’t think he’ll last much longer.

This. He's a good blocker, like I said. But for where he was drafted and the production, it doesn't add up to him being kept around.

John Phillips was had in the late rounds and was serviceable in the blocking schemes and has room to grow as a receiving threat.

Martellus Bennett is a freak athlete, but he doesn’t have the mental part of the game down, much like Roy Williams. And he doesn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt that he will, either.

If a team like Cincinatti is dangling a 2nd rounder, you deal him Draft day.

one huge huge huge difference

your paying roy williams a LOT of money.
your not paying bennett a LOT of money.

if witten goes down, you have a serviceable backup (i mean do you REALLY want to have john effing phillips as your backup if witten gets hurt?)

bennett is the guy you take a chance on 10 out of 10 times. (see davis, vernon)

Roy

He isn’t good but at least he doesn’t ruin the entire passing game by demanding that the ball be forced to him incessantly. He makes offenses predictable and encourages turnovers when OCs are forced to draw up plays that put the ball in his hands. Once TO left, the Cowboys had more passing yards than EVER before and Romo had a career-high rating.

A league source tells Profootballtalk.com that “multiple teams” have a fourth-round grade on Maryland LT Bruce Campbell, despite his awesome Combine.
Another source described Campbell’s 2009 play on film as “terrible.” It’s worth noting that during Campbell’s post-workout interview Saturday, the NFL Network showed numerous clips of Campbell missing blocks and getting overpowered at the point of attack. NFLN’s Mike Lombardi, a former Raiders employee, predicts Campbell will be drafted by Al Davis at No. 8 overall.

I was shocked...

by GhettoBear04 on Mar 1, 2010 6:56 PM CST up reply actions

more quick than fast...

Ole Miss’ Dexter McCluster registered the top short shuttle time among running backs at the Combine, at 4.06 seconds.
McCluster was clearly the best in this drill, with Auburn’s Ben Tate (4.12) finishing second. Though his 4.58 forty was disappointing, McCluster’s quickness cannot be questioned. He will still come off the board on day two.

by octoberty on Mar 1, 2010 6:59 PM CST up reply actions

Yes, but...

…his size is already going to limit him somewhat.

I think the big winner (at least among RB’s, maybe out of everyone) was Ben Tate. 0.06 seconds slower in the 40 than Spiller and he’s bigger. Throw in that shuttle time and wow….

He has good production in the SEC, he just had the off year in the spread offense. I’m really interested to see where he goes…makes perfect sense for a team like Houston.
