John Sickels' Prospect Retro on Josh Johnson
I know some folks here are fans of Johnson, and there was some talk about the Rangers potentially being interested in him this winter.

Didnt they sign him up long term? like 4/40?
"Drinks are on me if Lewis posts >168IP and an era lower than 3.86." by RangerMad on Jan 20, 2010 12:36 PM PST
Which reminds of this:
Verlander: 3.78 FIP, 0.75 HR/9, 72.3 LOB%, 7.99 K/9, 116 ERA+ – 5 years $80MM
Felix Hernandez: 3.54 FIP, 0.57 HR/9, 74.4 LOB%, 8.06 K/9, 125 ERA+ – 5 years $78MM
Jon Lester: 3.78 FIP, 0.82 HR/9, 76.5 LOB%, 7.85 K/9, 128 ERA+ – 5 years $30MM (last yr)
J Johnson: 3.49 FIP, 0.67 HR/9, 74.8% LOB%, 7.95 K/9, 126 ERA+ – 4 years $40MM
Seems like JJ’s contract is in line, Lester is a damn bargain and Verlander and Felix are kinda hard to believe.
"You promised me, Eckstein, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I noticed that during the most trying periods of my life, there have only been one set of prints in the sand. Why, when I have needed you most, have you not been there for me?" David Eckstein replied, "Because my little legs had gotten tired, and you were carrying me." And I looked down and saw that I was still carrying David Eckstein.
Then he grounded out weakly to second.
Lesters only buys out 1 FA year which is why it seems like such a bargain
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.
Huh
Didn’t check Cots so I’ll take your word for it. Makes sense then.

Yeah Lester only has a little over 3 years of service time as of now
He had a little over 2 when he signed that contract so it bought out 1 pre arb year, his 3 arbitration years, and 1 FA year

As a fan of a team with about 20 C pitching prospects
you have to like this line
This is another example of how Grade C pitching prospects at the lower levels can sometimes develop into something very interesting.
Go Rice Owls!
If you look at how Sickels grades prospects
that’s not too shocking. A lot of his C prospects are the type of players that can turn into something great or never make it past AA.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Grade C pitchers
It would be interesting to go back and look at Sickels’ grades and see how many grade C pitchers never sniffed the majors, how many had short mlb stints, how many had solid careers and how many became stars. His recent look back at his top 50 pitchers from 2005 showed just how hit-or-miss even highly rated prospects are. Grade C pitching prospects would have what, a 5-10% chance of having a solid major league career I would imagine? Maybe less?
someone
over at the crawford boxes was comparing Bud Norris to Johnson….i almost fell off the couch
That sounds about as fail...
…as most (all?) Houston sports talk radio on baseball.
If Brad Pitt is playing Beane who do you want playing you?

to fall asleep while driving..i hated myself for losing my ipod when I had to listen to houston sports talk for a week…
Yet
it’s no worse than DFW sports talk radio on baseball:) Sports talk radio in general is pretty ridiculous if they take callers, because most callers are ridiculous.

When we gonna get sum pitchin' up in heere?
