Introducing my webcomic: Fanatics
To state the obvious, I'm taking a shot at creating a sports webcomic, check it out if you'd like!

Should be mostly baseball themed for the season.
People on here who know me also know I'm not a real big joke teller, and yet.. I'm going to try it anyway heh. So yeah, this is my first attempt at something like this so if you think its at all interesting give me a while to get going.
No harm done if I can't get any readership going, but I've been thinking about doing this for a while and didn't have anything else to work on, worth a shot at least.
Only 5 comics up now, but I've got the webpage done and will start the regular updates immediately.
Alright, thats about it. Thanks for any input in advance!

I also liked the Selig one.

Wir betreten feuertrunken,
Himmlische dein Heiligtum.
I'm only reading this...
…if it includes your “Bucket List.” Because everyone should have a “Bucket list.”

Uh oh...
follow…still pretty funny.

Dude, these are really good.
I wonder if Adam would be interested in helping you out by featuring a few of these every now and then, like what Rev does for the dude who does the Angels comics on Halos Heaven.
Waddya say AJM?
Morality you can fake. Fun you either have or you don't.
Nice skills.

Excellent Work
Do your 2 main characters have names yet? If not, perhaps your little buddies at Lone Star Ball can give you some ideas.

Well
In my ps files I named the main guy Jake after my dog =p but that’s not official, and the second guy is “character 2”.. So uh, yeah.
I can probably handle names though.
What I’m thinking of now is other characters in general to work into a larger story I will need to fill the updates. Stat geek, father/son at a game, outsider, etc. Think I’ll have a JW equiv. :p

Your cartoon is already a million billion trillion times better
than that guy over at Hardball Times.
Freude, schoener Goetterfunken,
Tochter aus Elysium,
Wir betreten feuertrunken,
Himmlische dein Heiligtum.
Write what you know
and you know LSB. Arguments with a Josey character (already on to that one), Sitting at a game with Ben and Adam in the row in front of you debating various topics, Dirkatron, GDTs (the knee jerking etc), baseball jesus, the list goes on and on.
Ditto for the bobbleheads
Mark Teixiera, Jim Sundberg, Michael Young

I like it
Good work with your new endeavor! Off to a very promising start.
Not mediocre. Right about average
Website host
By the way, i’f anyone here needs to make a webpage in the future, I really liked what i used to make mine- squarespace.
Very easy to get the structure down, easy to customize the look, easy to use widgets for stuff, nice stats and such, it has an iPhone app, and they answered my support qs in minutes at 3 am.
Downsides: somewhat pricey, can’t really transfer your page out of there system.

read soooo many good rec’s for them

KG: Oh yeah.

very nice Shepster!
The Selig one is my favorite.
If the Rangers don't make the play-offs this year I'm gonna go all Epic Bearded Man on your ass.
Dear DShep, once you have an idea for a comic
How long does it take for you to draw and illustrate it?
hard to say right now
Well I made most of the stuff in photoshop with no strip in mind, building each environment (much larger than shown) took hours.
Now that some basics are setup and can just be pulled in, it should take anywhere from 20 mins (stock characters/area) to several hours (new area, new poses, new character).
my webcomic - Fanatics
you really have talent drew
…i know its been said before, im sure it doesnt hurt to hear it again haha
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.
I like what I see so far.
Also, if you do run out of good ideas, you might have someone else write the script and have you draw the comics. I’ve seen other webcomics that are that way. But if you do LSB comics, you’ve got a goldmine of material that will last for years. :D
Thanks for all the kind replies!
Appreciate it as always. I posted it in a couple places and most people seem to think it has some potential (though of course people who don’t tend to be nice and say nothing), but one guy gave me a strip by strip critique of my writing.. definitely some tips I’m going to try to incorporate and improve it quickly.
my webcomic - Fanatics
I know funny and that's funny
current and hilarious. I pretty much did that exact same thing as the hockey one.
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.
Oh just a thing about that
If you read their rules they seem pretty strict about not stating anywhere on your website encouraging people to click on the ads. I doubt they’ll see it, but I don’t know just a warning. Don’t want you to get taken off of it over something so little or anything.
I'm just goofin' new boot goofin'
Yeah
I guess better safe than sorry. I had a weather website up for awhile. Made like almost 100 all together, but my site was small, and just had small core group of visitors. Hopefully you’ll make more with it. I’m sure you will once your name, and comics get out there.
I'm just goofin' new boot goofin'
id visit your weather site
IIRC there are a couple of weather junkies on here? (im not really one of em but i like reading it)
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.
Weather junky?
Is that an actual thing?

What does it entail?
I’m wondering what exactly a weather junky is. I have no idea.
I enjoy knowing the forecast so I don’t get caught sans raincoat in a downpour or plan a hiking trip on an evening when it’s gonna blizzard and all that, but beyond that I could care less about it.

WestTxAg is one, I believe
"Back on the scene, with a gangsta lean" RW
"When you have a weapon on your shoulder like he has, you can be cool." RW on Perez
And the little bastard threw it for a swinging strike three in a 3-2 count. He’s blessed. And ballsy.
I wouldn't say I'm a junkie, but it certainly entertains me
To answer Dirk’s question, a weather junkie is to meteorology like many of us on here are to sabermetrics: no we don’t get paid for it, but studying it and understanding it is a fun and entertaining hobby.
If I lived somewhere with simple weather, I probably wouldn’t care too much about it. But in a place like West Texas, where crazy weather shifts are the norm and where your storms are always severe and oftentimes epic, it’s lots of fun to watch the severe weather coverage and understand what’s happening and why. Plus, if you have any interest or involvement in agriculture, there’s an added dimension of importance.
"Dying ain't hard. It’s living in the wake of a thorough public humiliation that’s hard.--JDT217
That will probably be the only thing I'll miss about West Texas,
the crazy weather. I’m a weather guy and like to understand it and see it. I was always getting yelled at by my mother when I would go outside during tornado warnings, hoping to get a glimpse of it.
One of the strangest things I’ve ever seen was when the lights went out one time in Midland. Something called a straight-line wind burst occurred. A straight-line wind burst is literally a wind bomb that went off in the middle of town that snapped electrical poles and even turned a small car over as it was driving around.
A straight-line wind burst occurres when a pocket of very cold air finds itself above a fast moving, warm storm system. The pocket of cold air is much heavier then the storm air, so it desends from the higher altitude onto the ground. The colder the top air is, the fast it goes down. Not only is there a huge wind gust associated with this, but the temperature can drop easily 15-20 degrees in a matter of minutes.

if theres anything that we can do to help out w/ it let us/me know

well
I’m waiting a few weeks to get more of an archive going before I make a real effort to link it around and try to spread things, don’t want to waste that effort with only 5 comics to try to hook someone.
So for now I just posted it on forums I regularly vist, here, fantasybaseallcafe, the baseball board of a videogame site, etc., and then i did put it on “the webcomic list”.
my webcomic - Fanatics
ahh
good luck…ive enjoyed your stuff in the past
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.
Yes!
More DShep. This won’t interfere with the animations after each game, I hope. I always enjoyed those.
You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In *St. Louis* his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well, *Steven Jackson* was the best.
hah those were too low on the time/return ratio to continue
had to stop that pretty quick but glad you liked them.
although i might make an animation or two for this at some point.
my webcomic - Fanatics
At least.....
make an animated one for a win and a loss to post up in the GDT after each game. If you don’t make it player or team specific for the oppostition, it should work out.
Wash is an idiot!!
Good stuff.

KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.
hah i never linked that here, only on my half finished website
I was putting it together and got sidelined from working on the shirts (have like 20 mostly done but never put up) by the newberg cover project and some real life stuff.
I need to get back on all that stuff.
my webcomic - Fanatics
by the way if anyones wandering about the t i was trying to cheaply print a run of for LSB
I asked printshops about it and the up front cost was just too high to justify going forward with. I do have one for myself though =p
my webcomic - Fanatics
ive been meaning to buy the TBIA print from there
soon lol
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?

idk where else you could put it and still get good quality
i know BBIMBF has one of them…

Coming from a guy with zero artistic talent, I’ve always admired people with that kind of ability. Kudos. I look forward to more.

Fantasy team names
I’m working on one that involves illustrating a fantasy baseball team name or two.
I’ve got some candidates I could go with but if anyone thinks they have or have seen a particularly hilarious one that would translate visually for me to consider that’d be cool.
Have another one other finished to put up tomorrow and I think its pretty good so be sure to check the page for it then =p

Fantasy Baseball
Recently, I saw a t-shirt that said “Scared Hitless” Fantasy Baseball.
On a related note, I saw a fantasy football t-shirt with the name “Big Ol’ T-Ds”

General idea, yeah...
Although they’re not the Ham Fighters, they’re the Fighters.
But just think, if they were the Ham Fighters. Like a boxing pig as the mascot. It would be greatness, and it’s something that’s very baseball geek, which I got the feeling the strip is going for.
did someone say boxing pig?

From knowing you, I'd have to agree you aren't a big joke teller and are quite a serious person.
Whenever you do your work though, such as this, a more creative side of you comes out and it’s quite enjoyable. Just read through all the comics and they are very interesting.
I like the new Fantasy Baseball comic
these are gold! keep it up
