Deadspin's 2010 Rangers Preview
Deadspin's 2010 Rangers Preview
Wasn't exacly what I was hoping for, and I guess it's hard to get super pertinent info on EVERY team, but nothing about Harden, Hambone, CD, Feliz, etc, etc? Pretty much 200 words about how Mike Maddux is the pitching coach. Somewhat perlexing. At the very least, I expected some snarky joke about Hambone and the Arizona whip creamed-belly bitches or something like that, but no. Leitch did say that Jon Daniels has turned the franchise around, and he did manage to hit on the 2 biggest improvements over 2008 (pitching and defense), so I guess he was paying a little bit of attention.

Wow...
I would hardly call that a team preview.
It’s just an article about Sparky Lyle and Maddux.

I'm guessing this is the first of the Deadspin previews y'all have read.
They’ve all just been Will Leitch’s meandering thoughts on every team. Some of them have been surprisingly interesting, but definitely not previews.
I've been
reading Deadspin for quite some time now and it’s just like a sports version of TMZ. No real journalism but rather they show you the shit you don’t see on ESPN. If your looking for in-depth team analysis, Deadspin is not the place. If your looking for the latest twitter from Ozzie Guillen, then that’s a different story.

Thought the same thing
but I wonder if it’s just because I know a hell of alot more about the Rangers than he does.
I was thinking what would make a good review of the Rangers for someone that doesn’t follow them and sort of a human interest thing and I came up with Hicks. I good story of greed, manipulation, poor decisions, etc. Basically,
Used the team to finance the loans to purchase Liverpool. Defaults on the note but claims that’s just to “renegotiate” the loans. Offer a minority stake in the Rangers but no takers. Tries to negotiate a new longer term TV deal to raise money even though it would hurt the team long term. Angling even to the end for more ownership interest at the risk of killing the deal. Now the Rangers are at the cusp of being out from underneath his thumb.
It would make an interesting story to a casual fan.
"You promised me, Eckstein, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I noticed that during the most trying periods of my life, there have only been one set of prints in the sand. Why, when I have needed you most, have you not been there for me?" David Eckstein replied, "Because my little legs had gotten tired, and you were carrying me." And I looked down and saw that I was still carrying David Eckstein.
Then he grounded out weakly to second.
I'm a little new here,
but have we always used Deadspin as a good source for baseball related topics?
"Big whoop, wanna fight about it?"
I've been a Deadspin commenter for quite a while
but even I was suprised that Will didn’t even attempt to throw ANYTHING out there at all except confirmation that, indeed, Mike Maddux is the pitching coach and that The Rangers were still in Texas. And it wasn’t even funny…nor did it even try to be funny. That was probably more suprising.
