Wednesday’s SportsBusiness Daily piece ended by saying, "How much longer the situation can drag on is unclear, with one source saying in a few weeks the team could be forced into bankruptcy protection."
To begin with, the Rangers would not fall into bankruptcy, but rather Hicks Sports Group. How the creditors would move HSG into bankruptcy is unclear. This seems to be a leveraging comment by a creditor to try and spook fans or the Greenburg/Ryan group.
1) Definitely sounds like a creditor said that.
2) The Rangers are a subsidiary of HSG, so they would be in bankruptcy along with the parent.
3) No creditors want to deal with bankruptcy. They are just trying to get the Greenberg group to raise more cash (from themselves or new lenders). That won’t happen, and the creditors will eventually concede.
Gee, thanks for making us all look bad

And the little bastard threw it for a swinging strike three in a 3-2 count. He’s blessed. And ballsy.
Haven't done that.
He’s done a lot of digging on the deal, and I’m interested to learn what he’s learned and hearing. I’m particularly interested in learning what the new debt level will be as I believe interest payments will be a huge factor in what the Rangers can do with the payroll.
Maury said he doesn’t know the debt/equity breakdown of the deal (which is understandable; tough info to get).
Reason for dilination between HSG and Rangers
On MikeE comment #2. A good reason for the separation is this: While Rangers are part of HSG, it is sold off as part of any bankruptcy. That would mean still mean MLB would go with Greenberg/Ryan. And outlines why bankruptcy is a dead end strategy.
That wasn't MikeE
I realize you don’t come here often, but if the post is more than 5 words, it isn’t a MikeE comment. Just like you know its a TexasDawg, I mean Rangers100, comment if its relating to Rangers ownership and is completely wrong.

LOL Mike E with the zinger!
If the Rangers don't make the play-offs this year I'm gonna go all Epic Bearded Man on your ass.
I understand.
Just saying that the Rangers would officially enter bankruptcy proceedings with HSG. It’s a formality though, which I believe is your point. Wouldn’t change anything about daily operations or the team being sold (though it might open the door for new bidders).
Other Bidders....
Rangers100… Suggest looking at what happened with the Coyotes sale. League control is at play, and I don’t see how there would be any change in MLB’s selection of an ownership group whether HSG went into bankruptcy, or not. At the end of the day, MLB would still want Greenberg./Ryan
by Maury Brown on Mar 11, 2010 10:30 PM CST up reply actions
I'm assuming that
bankruptcy would mean that the Greenberg/Ryan group was not able to raise enough cash to get the creditors to approve the deal. Wouldn’t mean they couldn’t continue to pursue the club, but bankruptcy proceedings are a legal matter where MLB wouldn’t have full control. Other bidders could file as well.
(I don’t believe this will happen though as I believe they creditors would just take less cash and roll their remaining debt to the new owners before throwing the club into bankruptcy proceedings.)
Quick clarification:
Obviously MLB would still have a say on the new bidders. Just saying that bankruptcy proceedings might bring new bidders forward that MLB would consider.
Other bidders
Just saying that bankruptcy proceedings might bring new bidders forward that MLB would consider.
Only in terms of going through the motions. The league has been intermediary in the deal… they are happy with who they selected.
by Maury Brown on Mar 11, 2010 10:41 PM CST up reply actions
I don't doubt MLB is happy with Greenberg/Ryan,
but wouldn’t your conclusion depend on the amount offered by a new bidder?
If a new bidder came forward with a larger offer that included less debt, I think MLB would heavily consider it at the least.
Anyway, I agree with you that bankruptcy won’t be happening. The creditors are trying to squeeze out as much cash as possible before they eventually just take the Greenberg group offer.

Bankruptcy
Rangers would be an asset of HSG that would be sold (assuming it’s a liquidation BR and not reorganization). The judge would have the ultimate say on who buys the Rangers and for how much. The creditors would form a lienholder committee and argue for the deal they like and the trustee would argue for the deal he thinks is best. There might even be an unsecured creditors committee.
But MLB would become involved somehow and would probably work with the trustee. Basically, the trustee would point out how MLB will approve X deal but not Y deal which would go a long way with the judge. The judge isn’t going to approve a deal that’s never going to be consummated.
"You promised me, Eckstein, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I noticed that during the most trying periods of my life, there have only been one set of prints in the sand. Why, when I have needed you most, have you not been there for me?" David Eckstein replied, "Because my little legs had gotten tired, and you were carrying me." And I looked down and saw that I was still carrying David Eckstein.
Then he grounded out weakly to second.

Ha
about a week ago when the news was out the deal would be done by the end of spring training, I set the over/under on Adam posts dedicated to whether it’d actually be done at 1.5. The Over wins with in one night. I’d be a bad Vegas oddsmaker, obviously.

I went to Chrome
A month ago, based on my frustration from Firefox’s facebook-chat related slowdowns. I’m not looking back.
I use Chrome, Opera, and Firefox
And I like Chrome best, just because the smoothness with which it operates.
Firefox was my first non-IE love. If they could fix the slowdown issues that have plagued it, I’d bring it back into frequent use.

Chrome
I gave it a test run but I didn’t like the implementation of adblock on it.
"I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it." - Mitch Hedberg
Well, that's the downside, I don't have adblock
But to be honest, I put adblocking well down the list of priorities in a browser. I keep a large number of programs open (at least five Word docs, a few Excel sheets, iTunes, Outlook) in addition to at least three browser windows open with probably 30+ tabs at all times. Thus, I just want a browser that will allows me to move around all that quickly, without slowing down my CPU.
Firefox was a dream until the latest edition started using gigantic sums of memory.
"Dying ain't hard. It’s living in the wake of a thorough public humiliation that’s hard.--JDT217
Sheesh, you keep iTunes open all the time?
Talk about a real fat bitch of a program. I loathe iTunes.
I’ve been meaning to go to one of the more lightweight alternatives that are out there and I still need to, but I fortunately don’t use iTunes that much and I’m too lazy to do the research to find a good alt.
Morality you can fake. Fun you either have or you don't.
Yeah, I like to keep it open for quick access to music
I also have internet radio going. But if my internet station plays a song I don’t like (or sometimes during commercial breaks), I’ll mute it and switch over to iTunes.

Yeah, I know, I get out of hand with my tabs
I’ll have 4-5 LSB threads open, Facebook, several news/baseball articles and columns that I open up and plan to read during a free moment during the day, etc. Then, depending on what exactly I’m working on, I’ll have cases, statues, legal forms, practice guides, etc. open. I like to have them all open at once for quick reference, and then just close them when I’m finished with the project.

Yah, I just installed the Chrome adbock on mine
I’m still playing around with it, but just on the offhand it doesn’t look like it has a an easy way to ad banners or ads to it’s adblocking list. If there even is one, it sure doesn’t seem easy to find.
I just can’t get on board with Chrome. I hate the way it looks, hate the way it’s organized and it’s never run that smoothely for me like everyone claims it does. And now their adblock feature appears to blow, though I suppose I should simply be happy it finally has one.
Morality you can fake. Fun you either have or you don't.
I think the smoothness of Chrome may vary from computer to computer
On my last computer, I didn’t have particularly good luck with it. But I bought a new computer about a year ago and it and Chrome seem to love each other.

I'm not a fan of the Chrome processes
I’d rather have one process for my browser than create 15 different ones for 15 different tabs. Also, this Firefox is supposed to be the fastest yet, though I haven’t ever had much of a problem.

although I find myself defaulting to Firefox most of the time.

Yep
I use Chrome if I need to check something real quick, but it sucks up too much memory and cpu power if I try having too many tabs open
