Friday morning Rangers stuff
Well, the bats woke up yesterday. Chris Davis and Elvis Andrus each had four hits, and Michael Young had 3, as the Rangers won 16-5.
Anthony Andro says that Davis, who is hitting .500 on the spring after yesterday's big game, is trying not to get caught up in what happens from at bat to at bat, as he feels he may have done last year.
Jesse Sanchez writes that Scott Feldman had some kinks and some issues yesterday, but isn't worried, as he's confident he'll get it worked out before the season starts.
Tommy Hunter impressed folks with the Rangers with his work ethic this offseason.
Jeff Wilson writes that the Rangers are being careful with Tanner Scheppers, whose innings they want to manage in light of him having pitched very little the past two years.
And the S-T's notes includes discussion of how spring training is a homecoming of sorts for Clint Hurdle and Ian Kinsler.

“I thought he was very good,” Rangers manager Ron Washington said"
that gives me the heeby jeebies. Warsh has got everyone to play hard, but comments like this really unnerve me.
The bats have been asleep?
We’re hitting .351/.413/.487 for the spring so far, which is pretty much the best in the entire majors save for the maybe the Cubs.
Morality you can fake. Fun you either have or you don't.
Bats waking up = bats waking up with RISP.

Why is that worth a rec?
Josey sucks, but he makes some legit posts 1-2 times a day, are they all worth a rec? Or are you so happy that he ventured outside his talking points that anything he said is worth a rec?
I think the people that rec’d that post are dense, thankyouverymuch.

Coupla days ago on the webcast he said the org generally targets around 30 IP added per season for these young pitchers building up their arm strenght to be ML’ers. This was in reference to Neftali Feliz. Not sure how that would apply to Scheppers.

What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.
lot of pressure on davis i suppose
if he can come out this spring decent it probably bodes VERY well on him this season. mike young and kins could hit .100 in the spring and it wouldn’t matter that much. if davis hits .100 (and not just because of competition) it’s very bad on him.
of course that’s obvious i think and a worthless statement, but there you go.
The biggest place for offensive improvement over last year
This Thing has is at 1B.
If Chris Davis can hit 35+ bombs with a .900 OPS, a lot of problems are going to be solved.

I think the 900 OPS is a farther reach than the 35 homers
Which is really, really weird, because the would probably correlate to a 550 slug.
Look at this, you made me look like the CD pessimist and you look like the optimist. Well played.

I didn't say he was gonna do it (I have severe doubts because of his inability to take a walk)
but if he would, some many things would fall into place.
To me, he’s the biggest key and the biggest mystery to the team.
Anybody who did what he did at his age in 2008 has the capability to be a monster but almost everybody who did what he did in 2009 never comes back from the dead.

i don't know what it is
but for some reason i really like tommy hunter. i know he won’t be one of the top 3 (or 5) pitchers on the team, but i really like the squirt. maybe my favorite pitcher.
i used to also really like john konronka too if that means anything
I think
its because Tommy Hunter doesn’t look like he’s had anything handed to him. He’s been successful in the minors, and again in the majors, but he doesn’t have great “stuff” He throws strikes, he works quickly, and he’s a very mature pitcher for such a young guy.
Oh my god! What can it be? We're all doomed! Who's flying this thing?

Ben and Skin have their interview with CJ Wilson up. Looks like the Rangers brought in Oliver to replace Wilson in the bullpen if CJ makes it as a starter.
Also the Ticket has a Hardline podcast up. I know there are some Ticket fans on here and the Hardline rehashes about how come they are banned from going to Spring Training. I guess, a bachelor party went out to Surprise this year and heckled Alex Gordon of the Royals with Yoko Ono chants.

So I watched a documentary called “Road to the Big Leagues” last night. It was all about the path Dominican players take to MLB. The beginning was kinda slow….interviews with poor street kids playing stick ball and the like. Later in the documentary they followed a player that was getting passed over in tryouts until he spent some time with David Ortiz’s personal trainer (can’t remember his name, but he’s a Dominican god apparently). It showed the kid hitting a tire with a bat like 1000x and other exercises of the sort.
The best part of the documentary IMO involves following Vladdy around his hometown as he spent every day on the sandlot fields with street kids and walked from place to place like a common dude. The guy is really, really down to earth. Pretty cool stuff.
So, if you don’t mind reading subtitles for an hour, I highly recommend this movie (its available for instant viewing if you have netflix).
Awesome, I'm going to check that out today.
I watched “Food, Inc.” the other day and it rocked my world man, my wife hates me bc every time she picks up something to eat I’ll tell her the back story on it. I even inquired on a community garden plot here in town….lol….that will never happen, but that doc freaked me out a little.
