the radio is in the back and I can’t really turn it up loud to hear it in the front.
Not going to the April Rangers-Mariners games.
As I misread the schedule and they are in Texas. :(
And I’m pretty sure I’ll be in Florida during the series that starts the last day.

I'm not sure how to handle
three guys making a case for the last spot. This has never happened while I’ve been a fan of this team.

I assumed he was referring to Hunter
I think Hunter has a spot, though.
by Adam J. Morris on Mar 13, 2010 3:46 PM CST up reply actions
Holland, Harrison and McCarthy for the final
spot is what I meant. I’m assuming Harden, Feldman, Lewis and Hunter are pretty much locked in, barring injury.
I think they're just trying to pacify him
I don’t think he’ll be in the rotation. Is he measurably better than the others? Enough to create the void he would leave in the bullpen?
I'm torn.
If the Rangers really see Wilson as poised to pitch at or near his ceiling as a starter this season, I can see why they’d want to give him the chance to prove something. If there’s any real doubt, though, I’d rather see him in the ’pen.
I don’t think this is just a move to pacify Wilson, though, because there’s a potential downside: namely, Wilson pitches well enough in Spring Training (in his own mind, if nowhere else) to feel that he’s earned the final spot ~ and is even more pissed when he’s put back into his relief role. Based on his comments (and media reports), there’s a real risk of this…
That's almost unavoidable
If they don’t give him the chance he pouts. But by saying yeah you lost he also pouts. Is there anyway he’ll be happy if he’s not starting or closing?
I wouldn't be surprised if the reports of his pouting are overblown.
But if not, what’s the point in trying to pacify him in the first place? At some point, if he’s really that much of a prima donna, doesn’t someone (or better yet, multiple someones, from the front office and the clubhouse) have to talk to him, without trying to pander to him?
Again, I’d be surprised if this whole thing was just an attempt to make nice with Wilson.
This gameday
guy sucks.

Its starting to get hard to doubt this new
McCarthy. He sounds like he’s doing really well but I know the rug is going to be pulled out from under me.
He's always pitched fairly solid.
His health just peters out before he can get a solid rhythm going.
Yeah, if he gets hurt early again I think they need to give up on the idea of him starting
and transition him to reliever. He’s pretty effective when healthy, but if they can’t keep him healthy then what’s the point.
Ready for some baseball.
Yay, McKKarthy!
Sounds decent on the radio to this point. I’m not sure who the 5th starter will end up being, but there appear to be a few good options developing.
I have a massive head some I can say this...

Did you see the BBTIA article about getting offered Lowell again?
I can’t believe they’d accept Boggs – so, tossing him out – would you trade Moreland, Max or Engel Beltre for him?
Of those three...
…I’d probably deal Max. I’d probably pass, all in all, though.
Mainly depends on how confident you are in Chris Davis right now, though. If you think he’s shaky, Lowell is more of a necessity.

If Lowrie wins their backup middle infield spot
via rotoworld
Jed Lowrie said Friday that his left wrist is fully recovered.
Lowrie battled the wrist injury for most of last season and made just 76 total plate appearances. “This is the best I’ve felt in a long time,” said Lowrie. “Obviously last year it wasn’t ready to go.” He is hoping to land on Boston’s Opening Day roster as a backup middle infielder.
What happened?

Murph will be into arb next year
is it worth paying him when you can get that same production on the cheap?
JD’s like, "you want some fucking pitching? Here’s all the pitching you can stand. Now choke on it, bitches!"- RCCook
I'd offer him it and hopefully he will be a B and someone will sign him like the Cubs w/Byrd
"Hell's frozen over, Pigs are flying! The Saints have won the Super Bowl"
1st year arbitration eligable
no FA arbitration
JD’s like, "you want some fucking pitching? Here’s all the pitching you can stand. Now choke on it, bitches!"- RCCook
anywhere in the 1.5 - 3 range
would be my guess. It is going to be a major jump from the 400k
JD’s like, "you want some fucking pitching? Here’s all the pitching you can stand. Now choke on it, bitches!"- RCCook
I'd guess they avoid arbitrtation, and the deal's much closer to 1.5 than 3 million.
Hamilton only got $3.25 million in his negotiations, right?
In that case, the question would be whether Murphy’s worth $1-1.5 million (or his barter value) over the available serf substitutes. I think there’s a decent chance the answer is yes, particularly to a team that should contend…
is Murphy worth more as a trade chip than taking up 1M more in payroll and running out Boggs as the 4th OF
should be the real question.
A lot of this will depend on how Boggs does this year, not Murphy
JD’s like, "you want some fucking pitching? Here’s all the pitching you can stand. Now choke on it, bitches!"- RCCook
That's what I meant by his barter value.
I agree that Boggs’ performance this year could be the fulcrum, but I also wonder if Murphy’s one of those players whose value to the team he’s on exceeds his value to potential takers.
And, of course, Boggs is eligible for arbitration in 2012.
If '09 didn't happen,
I expected him to be moved. But, jumping up in the standings like they did, and Hammy continuing to be an issue, means DaMurph is worth far more to this team than others, imo.
