Profar is 16, I realize, but I'm not all that crazy about his RH swing.
I would be that he would have a hard time with low 90s fastballs. I also realize everyone loves his makeup, but I hope they keep him out of Hickory to let him refine his mechanics a bit and tighten up his swing and use his lower half a little better to the point that he doesn’t have to overswing to generate his bat speed.
Pro baseball has always been a dream, so this is pretty freakin’ cool out here. -- Tim Steggall, undrafted Rangers minor leaguer.
While he doesn't have a great swing, his selectivity, per Scott Lucas' 3/18 report, will help him a lot
Jurickson Profar is as advertised: smooth defensively, solid line-drive contact with the bat. He’s absurdly selective in the cage, where most batters (even the patient ones) will swing at anything close to the zone. Profar had a session in which he allowed at least half his pitches to pass untouched.
He relies alot on his shoulders and upper body to generate bat speed, and it doesn’t appear from his bat speed in the cage that he has enough weight up there at this point to keep up with low-90s fastballs. Once he puts on a little more muscle in his shoulders and back, he should be able to whip that bat through the zone much more quickly.
Alfaro, however, has a great power swing. I’m much more impressed with his mechanics and how he brings his weight through his hips to get some whip on that bat and power behind it. I thought Parks was off his rocker the other day when he asked out loud whether Alfaro might be the Rangers top catching prospect right now. With that swing and his quick pop times suggesting great physical talent, I could be convinced.

Well... who is ahead of him?
with Telis out for the year, Max won’t be a catcher in the show, and Vin DiFazio very meh on defense.

I was thinking at least Tellis with his hitting ability should still be ahead of him.
But, I also admit I’m a Tellis homer.

I think it was me that asked that question out loud :)
but we’re both high on him. Parks thinks he might be a top 10 overall guy already, and it’s hard to disagree with that.
Yeah, it’s knee-jerk. They’re just Spring Training workouts, but the talent and strength is rare for a 16 year old backstop. To me, he’s without-a-doubt a better overall package than Telis.
oops. I see in your report today more exciting information on Alfaro.
Definitely looking forward to his AZL season. I hope David Perez is there also.

Alfaro
Definitely ticketed for AFL? Quite a young age…

All reports thus far suggest he has a level of maturity that can handle an AZL assignment.
He’s got a good swing. The only question is whether he can deal with breaking balls.

Dang.
Mendonca is a big dude. Reminds me a little of Glaus.

I just got to it through Jason Cole's twitter site.
And, I have to ask this: Does Perez have perfect mechanics? They look pretty darn clean to me.

The video works for me...
I’m not enough of an expert on the subject to say they’re perfect, but yes his mechanics look pretty damn smooth.

Yeah.
I meant that the link in the post wasn’t working. Just a heads up to KH.

DiFazio
is a lot smaller than what I thought he would be.
