Mea Culpa

The worst part is that I now no longer expect those people who used Galarraga’s success as a reason to bash JD to say they made a mistake.

by Excel Hearts Choi on Mar 19, 2010 10:01 AM CDT reply actions

But you know that won't happen.

People will cite the 3 good starts he had (or whatever it was) and still bash JD.

There was also the very good start he had against the Rangers that spring… That hurt, admittedly.

by FuturePants on Mar 19, 2010 10:46 AM CDT up reply actions

I thought it was stupid for JD to release him

And I thought the success he had immediately with Detroit might indicate a problem with the Rangers scouting/development of arms at that time.

Just because the guy got optioned to the minors doesn’t mean that it was a good idea to give him to another organization, he did have some ML success at a time when we were rolling a bunch of retread spares in our own rotation.

Hey Tom - It's over now, so do you know how - to pick up the pieces and go home?

by tricer on Mar 19, 2010 12:25 PM CDT up reply actions

He had MLB success...

…while putting up peripherals that indicated that he wasn’t good.

Which made it pretty obvious at the time that his MLB success was a fluke.

by Adam J. Morris on Mar 19, 2010 12:40 PM CDT up reply actions

Not to mention

Half of his games were in Detroit which is a pitchers park.

In the interest of quicker games Ron should just tell the ump he's pulling the Feliz card and the ump should rule the inning over.--Sherman McCoy on Sept. 4, 2009

Yep

You hate to give up arms if you can avoid it, but pitchers like Galarraga don’t often come back to bite you in the ass past their flukey seasons.

By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

He is being optioned

He has one left.

And why on earth would you give up Kiker for Galarraga? The Tigers would do that this second…but why would you want the Rangers to do that?

Who's in the Tiger's rotation?

Verlander, Bonderman, Miner? Robertson? Willis?

Hurts to see that back-end of their rotation…

well, dang. forgot about the two of them...

guess Scherzer still has to prove that he can be a viable starter, though. and pitch in the AL.

he’s been lighting it up this spring, for whatever that’s worth.

Interesting

I thought one of the biggest complaints the past couple seasons is that his velocity had essentially vanished. Any idea what he’s throwing at? And more importantly, does he still wear his hat crooked?

The Rangers or Tigers rotation?

Given Verlander

and the fact that Texas has questions up and down theirs, I’d lean toward Detroit. The Rangers have promise, but guys like Porcello and Scherzer are promising too. Will be interesting to see.

by Brett Perryman on Mar 19, 2010 11:18 AM CDT up reply actions

I lean towards the Tigers also

but if you stretch it out to 7 or 8 SPs I would take the Rangers.
